Hello everyone! Though I do not intend to yet check ongoing seasonal series, I'm always interested in collecting some info on them. On Carole and Tuesday:

1) Does the sci-fi setting feel enough vivid and interactive that it feels like an organic part of the plot (like in Blade Runner series, imagine)? My surefire guess is there will be heavy cultural chop suey feels, close to the Mars setting of Cowboy Bebop, since they share the director.

2) Is it episodic or it has a more linear story?

3) Is there a rich variety of musical genres, or is it mostly limited to electronic music and pop? Are there also musicians that prefer more old school approaches to music?

4) How much of a SoL drama does it feel to you? Also, does it indeed resemble Nana or is the comparison superficial?

5) Last but not least, is the manmade vs mass-production (cannot express it well :P) theme played well you think?

1) Since you mentioned Cowboy Bebop, yes the way the sci-fi setting is presented in Carole & Tuesday is pretty similar in which they only show you how the future technology works and did not attempt to explain too much onto them, preferring to focus on the plot and characters instead. You will be seeing lots of cool tech everywhere in C&T so I'd reckon it's organic enough to the plot.

2) Honestly I am a bit surprised with what we are getting so far, Watanabe always does his shows episodically (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy), this one is definitely the most linear among them. While some episodes may still feel episodic since you can get a head and a tail in that very same episode itself, ultimately you will definitely feel the story moving forwards, even more so than Champloo.

3) You will get a huge variety of musical genres, yes, sometimes as if Watanabe is playing around with those genres. For most part the titular characters will be performing in ballad, while their rival Angela in pop and R&B, but they aren't the only ones performing in the show, so you get a mixture of Opera, Hip-Hop, New Age, Electronica, oh and Acapella too.

4) I haven't check Nana out but the slice-of-life aspect pretty much mirrors the real life events rather closely - the struggles of a musical artist, all the way from trying to climb up the ladder, reaching the top, and crashing back down etc. It's all presented in the show. The show does well to develop a lot of the side characters too, many of them have strong backstories and thus you can get attached to them easily.

5) This theme... is still to be explored I suppose, we aren't quite there yet.

Ι see, thank you for your time! So from your descriptionsm I understand that C&T is not slice-of-lifey in approach and not episodic at all, more linear actually. I could imagine being more everyday drama + a talent show with multiple conflicting genres and approaches to music.

From what I understand though its sci-fi element is not the most prominent one, being more eyecandy rather than quite organic and a part of its messages. Less interactive setting than say something like in Made in Abyss (used it as an example as its Abyss setting and worldbuilding is in itself a driving force and so on).

Without going into too much spoilers, C&T focuses a lot on the the ins and outs of the music industry as well as having man-made music vs AI-made music becoming a central theme eventually. Politics are somewhat prominent as well, something reminiscent to what happened in Nagi no Asukara where land-dwellers and sea-dwellers had some kind of political dispute, here we have Earth vs Mars sort of dispute.

Well, if you look solely on the musical plot aspect of the show, the futuristic setting can actually be replaced to present setting and will not affect the story at all. I guess that's what you were asking in terms of organic, my bad.

1) I think that it moreso focuses on music than anything, but there are a handful of sci-fi elements in this since it takes place on Mars in the distant future.

2) It's linear.

3) There's a mixture of pop, rock and r&b it seems like.

4) I haven't seen enough of Nana to make that comparison but, yes it is slice of life but it seems mostly light-hearted so far. It does have some sad parts but the tone of the anime is pretty light even though it's about the struggles of being an artist.

5) I don't exactly know what you are talking about here.

Sure.

1. Yeah it is sci-fi but focuses on the music. They use the sci-fi elements as a backdrop and when it is important for a major plot point.

2. Very linear story. I think that is a smarter idea.

3. There is a mixture but a lot of pop music.

4. I seen a little of Nanna. I would say no, but I may change this once I fully watch Nana.

5. Not sure yet but it may be heading that way.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

Τhank you all for your answers! Might check C&T as soon as it finishes, greater variety of music genres, linear story and possible exploration of artisanal vs commercialised music theme is quite welcome.

I think the English dub will make it a better experience overall as compared to the Japanese dub. Since you are waiting, why not wait for the English dub instead?
