As the other said, the story is standalone / original. In term of character background and their relation you must atleast watch the s1 anime for team asuka and team homura, and for the rest of the characters you must play the games. But you can forget the smartphone game coz the new original character from that game (Fubuki, Senkou, & Gekkou) even as now is not explained yet, the only thing explained is the fact that those three are Yumi's junior in gessen (hibari aslo said this fact at the pv). Last thing, as someone who enjoy all senran franchise (senran game, anime, manga, LN), the story also not a sequel of any of the game. IMHO this anime s2 is a point of connection between the console/handheld games and the smartphone game. (but i think mostly to promote the smartphone game) |

| I watched anime first then played Shinovi VS and Estival VS on PS Vita. Anime is kinda meh but games are fun. I think it's safe to watch S2 since games are not that story driven. Personally, I'm hyped to watch S2 cuz this will be the first time Gessen and Hebijou'll be animated properly (excluding that one OVA). |
