I think it would be better, because then I'd feel in sync with the lead. Don't get me wrong though yuri is great.

It's "Isekai" type of anime, it will be bad even with female MC. Isekai "genre" is just pure cancer.

Making him a side character would be even worse. Imagine if the MC of SAO was Lisbeth or something..........

I mean not really complaining in all honesty. Having a male or a female don't really change much, the character itself is important.

I'd say most "isekai" things are only "cancer" because most of the ones that I've seen are made by mediocre people who simply want to jump onto the popular concept without actual writing skills or creativity. Since "isekai" in itself is just a setting, any creative piece made using that setting can easily be good if the author is actually competent and makes an actual plot that isn't using the cliche layout.

This anime's synopsis and cover photo literally screams that it's using that cliche layout though, so it probably will be "cancer". The novelupdates reviews also confirms that it's probably generic trash, so now it's just generic cancer.

It doesn't matter if it's a male or female- anyone who gets one supreme, omnipotent wish from god himself upon reincarnation who wishes for their phone- THEIR PHONE, FOR PETE'S SAKE! Do you even know what the main driving concept behind a phone is? CONNECTIVITY! There's literally no cellular networks, no other people with phones to call with said phone, no GPS satellites, no servers, and no internet. On top of that, even the best phones have maybe only 18 hours use time- you get to use the calculator or camera to take selfies for 18 or so hours and then all you have is a useless hunk of metal (which would have been outdated even on Earth in 3 or so years). He could have had infinite power, wisdom beyond his years, wealth beyond his wildest dreams, AND HE WISHES FOR HIS PHONE. Anyone who wastes their wish like this is either mentally retarded or mentally ill.

And yeah, I agree with Terrium- there are some really good isekai's out there. One of my favorite is Overlord- the manga, anime and light novels are really good (LN volume 12 confirmed for mid-July, Second anime season confirmed :D )

yeah i know some people don't like SAO but it's honestly not that bad (except season 1 part 2). It's a solid 6 in my books.

Actually, it worked fine for Koihime Musou. The original game is an isekai about a guy from our world who gets to alternate Three Kingdoms China (where "alternate" means "all important people are attractive girls). The anime scrapped all that, and just made it about one of the girls' adventure.

Also, if MC of SAO was Asuna, it might have worked fine too.
