| This is where having blacked out characters backfires. You'd need to show the background characters' faces to understand the direction they're looking and what they're feeling. Minami-ke's method in this episode was to partially show the girls' faces, but still have them darkened in a gradient. It just looks awkward as is, especially when the guys' faces aren't even shown. I suppose it's a way to save time and budget from having to draw background characters, but in cases such as this episode, I think it actually detracts the episode. |
