Which novel to start with after watching the anime?

Well I watched the anime and the OVA, and I was wondering about the novels. I looked up the translations and noticed that only the 1st and 4th are fully translated, and I was wondering how far the anime went into the books, and where I should start reading from. Was a lot left out of the first book to make it worth reading also? Also, are they still working on the translations?
