How is Psycho-Pass unusual? If that one is then shouldn't something like Kyousougiga join the club?

Another Ping Pong analysis that you might find interesting. Be warned, it's incredibly long, I spent a lot of time on it and am reasonable proud:

I think these two manga are sufficient enough to be listed:

Noticed the manga relations list is a bit barren compared to the anime relations. Let me help with that:

http://myanimelist.net/manga/38111/Chimoguri_Ringo_to_Kingyobachi_Otoko

It's an quirky little avant-garde manga with a story involving a vampire with a fishbowl for a head, bloodstream diving, and watermelons. A nice read that unfortunally got cancelled before the plot could really take off.

Thankfully, the author is currently writing a sequel, so the story won't just be left hanging:

Also, I'm kinda surprised Midori Days isn't on either list. It's sort of like if Parasyte were a romantic comedy where Migi was a cute moe girl instead of a shapeshifting parasite monster:

Just felt like sharing Dareka no Manazashi because it's truly amazing for a real estate commercial.

I can't believe this one isn't on here...Papuwa. It's totally unusual and out there and it's so obscure it's only been viewed by under 900 MAL users. I believe BakaBT has it. I thought it was great.

Within the realm of unusual anime, anyway...absolutely beautiful, though.

Found a very pleasant short which is not in MAL's database.

It's called "Recruit's Rhapsody" and deals with the struggle of entering the Job Market Machine.
Seems to have been done by a student at Tokyo Art University.

Well, Utsu Musume Sayuri (Striking Daughter) may make you rethink "unusual is better" but you won't be able to deny that it unusual. 3 min. Surreal insanity, how does anyone even think of something like this? - You Tube
P.S. I really did fine it interesting :-)

"Journey to the End of the World" is great!

Hello everyone, I'm new here :)
Maybe you should add all the works by Nishioka Kyoudai it's mostly weird, philosophical and surreal stories.

For what is the world of anime the "The Thing" inspired parasites are indeed unusual, but if that and some of the ambiance (and i say some because some of the dubstep was really misplaced) is all they manage to adapt well i can't say Madhouse did a good job.

If you like that one you should check out
Fuan no Tane
and Fuan no Tane + they are compilations of similar stories to the one in "Me wo Mite Hanase", indeed Fuan no tane is on the manga relations.

In regards to the art style, I personally don't think it looks all THAT different from the manga. Sure, some of human designs were a bit tweaked/streamlined, but there were still plenty that looked fairly close to the original manga designs as well. And while Iwaaki's art style is very distinct, it's not like the human characters looked all that weird in the manga either.

The parasites themselves, on the other hand, have some of the most bizarre and creatively-freaky monster designs in manga, and I think they transitioned amazingly well into animated form. Plus, the creepy atmosphere of the manga was still there, and some of the dark humor was also left in.

Honestly, while I prefer the Parasyte manga just a tad more (it's one of my all-time favorites, actually), I still feel Madhouse did a fantastic job adapting it into an anime, even with the modernization.

Oh, speaking of Iwaaki, here's a really unusual one-shot by him:

Well here's the thing while i love the manga as if it were a masterpiece, i consider the adaptation a rushed travesty to the original work, and while the themes do qualify it to be unusual, the animation and everything else is just so run of the mill common, which was an intentional change because they wanted to appeal to a wider audience.

Since the manga's already been added:

Masaaki Yuasa has quickly become my most favorite director. He's a genius. Also, Kuuchuu Buranko is dope as fuck, I wish it was more popular
