I absolutely love Tarkus but have trouble digesting the rest of ELP catalog for some reason. What are some other less known 70s prog bands you guys can recommend?

I recently listened to nearly the entirety of Emerson, Lake, & Palmer's 70's catalog and I'm rather conflicted with certain albums. I thought their debut and Trilogy were magnificent, but I only like certain parts of Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery. Works Volume 2 was pretty good, and Love Beach wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be.

A collaboration between Steven Wilson and Mariusz Duda. It is a musicalization of a poem from their fan who died from liver cancer. Check it out:

Speaking of PT, this one is my favorite song of theirs:

Hm, some Porcupine Tree albums don't get too me as well, some of them are quite good though, his Solo stuff is far superior though, Raven was an amazing album and Grace for drowning has some amazing stuff like Raider II for example

I'm only listening to jazz lately...
I never got into Porcupine Tree. Simple compositions full of arrangements, too boring IMO. But Steven Wilson's solo album The Raven That Refused To Sing is amazing!

Oh yeah, I would rejoice over a new PT Album!

Yeah, The Raven That Refused To Sing is his best work so far. It is said that after this album, his next step might be a PT album again. That would be fabulous.

Damn, can't wait for it! Grace for drowning was super sick and The Raven that refused to sing and other stories is perhaps my favourite Album!

Woah, listened to it quite a bit now, Moon above, sun below is probably one of my favourite Opeth songs now, absolutely adore it!

Bohnenbrot | Jul 22, 2014 1:27 PM
listening to it right now, can't wait to own the thing!

Yea they've created their own heavy style which works perfect for them. Can't wait to see what else they do with it.

I agree! Opeth with clean vocals sounds totally beautiful.

Vulfreyde | Jul 22, 2014 10:09 AM
Well, if you ask me, i don't think we'll hear Akerfeldt growl ever again on an album. He really seems into the melodic singing now, developing his clean vocals and stuff. You can hear that even on the album, like a child that has found a new toy to play with. And even musicwise, i don't think they'll return to to death metal again or music where growls would fit into. Which is perfectly fine with me. I love their heavy stuff of course, but Opeth already has a lot of heavy albums, now it is time for them to do different music. I think.

Haha couldn't agree more. Seems we won't be hearing them growl again for a quite sometime, but that's fine with me.
