Agitated Screams of Maggots

I don't know whether you would consider this an anime or not, but if so, then this is an abomination. Not only is the imagery appalling; the music is complete with incoherent lyrics, and obnoxious screaming. The video makes no sense I don't see how anyone can think otherwise. This isn't artistic or an imaginative piece of work. It is a deplorable music video that should not exist. But sadly, it does. And I wish I could un-see it completely. Unless you want to watch this out of curiosity or as just a challenge; avoid it like the plague.

When I first found this series, I was intrigued by its' name 'Agitated Screams of Maggots'. Then I was drawn to the grotesque and and cynical picture of the old man residing in the place where the title art usually was displayed. Expecting extreme mindfuck and irrevocable nightmares, I plunged myself into the gory screamofest...and emerged confused and and very VERY disturbed, If you intend to put this on your 'plan to watch' list, I strongly advise you to be fully aware that this music video (if you can call it that) has human bisection, extreme portrayals of human genitals, tons of guts and ... shit flying everywhere (literally), and is NEVER for the faint at heart. Anyways, on with the review:

Story: 5

There's not much substance to a story, since the whole thing is only 3 minutes, but Agitated Screams of Maggots does what it can and creates an extremely perturbing tale; A mother is home making dinner and takes a fish out of the freezer. While she slices it, guts come flying out and a maggot lands on her cutting board. Frightened, she cleaves the maggot half, and they morph into tiny malformed beings. Meanwhile, the daughter comes home to find these two strange creatures performing sexual intercourse, and crushes their bodies with her shoe. But the horror isn't over yet...

In my opinion, there isn't much point in a story, as the whole thing revolves around being as revolting as a music video can be. While it does present us with an interesting face-off between the creatures and the daughter, it eventually blows the whole thing out of proportion, with random spinning heads coming out of entrails, a snake-like crotch with a head and the girl transforming into some sort of demon, which makes all make the story seem spontaneous and demoralizing. I can only imagine such a strange story could be created by a crazy satanic cult specializing in strange and unusual fetishes.

Animation and Sound: 3

Though it's on MAL, the animation style looks nothing like anime whatsoever. It moreof resembles some sort of old painting, where the colours are monochromatic and grainy, and most of the pencil lines are visible. It does quite well here to portray the various parts and orifices of the human body, as well as the horrified and tormented expressions of the characters, making this one of the best parts. Unfortunately, the animation is mostly reused, with slight variation, which makes things slightly boring after awhile. I also have to say, the quality skimped a few times and some frames looked very jagged and claymation-like.

The music wasn't too great. Since it was a music video, it only had one track, and it was just a screamo song (by Dir En Gray). Though it was fitting to the genre, the lyrics to it weren't discernible at all, and I eventually turned off the volume while watching because it was just that detracting.

Characters: 4

Lets see...we have one distraught mother, an aloof daughter and crazy creatures. While the mother shows no real importance, the daughter and the creatures are actually quite interesting. The daughter, though quite wiry and short, is very unfazed by the crazy antics of the creature, who tries to coat her in crap and suffocate her. The creature itself is also quite interesting looking, as it is a nude parasitic muscular man with a strange instinct to fuck and kill. The problem I have with these characters is that they're quite one-sided, and get somewhat predictable afterwards.

Enjoyment and Overall: 3

Holy crap...this thing was more mindfuck than every episode of Elfen Lied combined. Even being somewhat open to blood and gore, Agitated Screams of Maggots pushes things to the limit of comprehension and desensitizes you. This title should be renamed Mindfuck: The Music Video. As aforementioned, it you have a weak heart, don't watch this, and if you're curious, don't consider this too much, as it wasn't anything great.

I've been looking for a horror; something creepy or psychological, and was glad to see this and another disturbia-esque animation recommended on my homepage. I went to watch it and ,at first, thought I had clicked on a remake or something because the terrible music that accompanied the video was bothersome and didn't fit well with the animation. Unfortunately, all I could find was the same video, so I figured it was legit.

I watched it--no suffered through it.

It's engrossing. You can't move your eyes from the images because they are visually stimulating in a frown-while-you-watch-it kind of way.

It's also ... gross and a tad bit pedophilic. Some things should not be near the face or in the mouth of a child. No exceptions.

I usually write about the pros and cons of an anime when I do reviews, but because I had such a hatred towards Agitated Screams of Maggots, I will be saying only why I disliked it. I watched this anime out of curiosity. I didn't quite know what I was getting myself into, and perhaps that is my own fault. Nonetheless, there is NO EXCUSE for making such horrible piece of trash.

The music used in this short anime video is terrible. I hate it more than words can possibly describe. I was able to get through the video, despite this, due to the fact that ... it was only 3 minutes long. Unfortunately, it felt like an eternity. Imagine someone screaming in your ears for 3 minutes straight. It is insufferable.

The saddest thing about this short anime is that the visuals are pretty good. It's too bad the music destroyed any sort of value to this anime.

I can't let an anime as bad as this get away with what it did to me. I doubt I will ever see an anime nearly as bad as this. And if I do, I'll probably rate it higher than this. Yes, I did enjoy the visuals, but I am not letting this anime go for such a small thing when everything else sucked. I give this anime a 1/10. Shame on everybody involved in the making of this video. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Seriously.

Dir en Grey has some good and artistic MVs, but this wasn't one of them.
This video was just a mix of gore and sexual images without a clear meaning (maybe rape, I think), nothing else.

I was really uncomfortable the first time I watched this, especially the sexual attack to the little girl. Maybe if you like gore you can find this enjoyable, but I can't find the amusement in seeing a mild aged man almost rape a child.

The animation was alright, the style good. There wasn't an attempt of a story
The song wasn't my favourite of the band, but that's my personal opinion.

What's this video?

My ears hurt so much. It's like torture. 3 minutes of torture. I don't even know why I watch this.

The animation is disgusting and scary. I can't look at the video because of them. The kid in the video is so scary and all of the censored scenes, and blood just disgusting. I feel so bad. Uhhhh I hope, I never remember this video. I didn't like the music too. Just screaming. It's gross and I kinda feel that's video a little bit pedophilic.

And how this is consider as anime ? I can't understand. Anyway, please for your sake don't watch ... this torture pardon me anime.

When it comes down to metal as a genre of music some people love it and some people hate it. I never had a issue with metal in fact I actually enjoy metal music in some ways. However this music video comes across a piss poor attempt to be edgy when it just simply flops on it's
back. Agitated Screams of Maggots by Japanese metal band Dir En Gray. The story is honestly anyone's guess honestly I mean it seems like it would be interesting but it has no development or anything like that. The art looked on its actually one of the redeeming aspects ... of this video. However it was quite choppy and cryptic looking(in a bad way). The. characters,oh dear the characters, there is nothing I repeat NOTHING to attempt to develop the characters at all,NOTHING. There is this dreadful death metal auto tuned garbage playing in the background that is just bad.
In conclusion I had minimal enjoyment in Agitated Screams of Maggots. I just felt that there was nothing given to us by this video and all it is an attempt to shock us by throwing lewd and violent images at us in animation that has aged horribly and a dreadful metal song. Guys,there is much better metal music out there don't waste your time with this crap. Go listen to some quality metal and skip this one,it really isn't worth it.

Sound:Again with heavy metal put in some damn subtitles if you insist on making a heavy metal music video. Otherwise the audience will just here my groans of agony and of course the artists too along with their heavy breathing.

Art: could be at high definition and some parts appear semi blurred. so, art was not that good

story: random! That pisses me off. If you are going to do a story have the audience follow with you.

Character: given the random art the only way this could possible make sense is if it was a dream sequence. Which it could ... very well have been assuming it was a NIGHTMARE! even then, i have had plenty of scarier nightmares.

enjoyment: Out of my extreme dislike of this music video there was one thing i did like that just so happens to sum my feelings towards this piece. any guesses? the answer where the monster crapped in front of the young girls face. yes, that is right i did say it was rather Shi_y.

The drawings themselves aren't too bad. That's pretty much the only positive thing that can be said for this anime, which isn't an anime, it's just a music video.

There's no message conveyed here. It's just a few sequences which don't really aim for anything other than grossing out the viewer. And they definitely succeed at that, with weirdly-sexual-at-times body horror. But this isn't a good thing - it's just grossing people out for the sake of grossing people out.

As for the song, well, some of the guitar riffs are pretty cool, but more often than not they are drowned out by the senseless screaming which ... probably would have ruined the visuals had the visuals not already been pretty bad.
