Colorful (Movie)

forgive me if it's rude, but this is a Japanese Hallmark movie lmfaooooo except with childhood depression.
There are many societal and internal issues at play between the characters in the film and there's just not enough oomph in the writing to focus on the relationships our protagonist could be making. The whole theme of the movie is; hang onto life, we have friendship, nice shoes and a steam bun. But, the "processing" part of this movie is done with an oddly childish authority figure... angel.....?
Why open a story touching on such deeply emotional issues? Could you have written this story differently (yes) to ... focus on *why* conservative values have eroded? (Yes) or maybe write a character who learns why his ways are wrong because he.. idk, talked to any of his friends?? (Yes they could have, but they didn't!~~)
So if you're struggling to find a way through this rat race, emotionally. You could try this movie. It is not very helpful in the long term but it's real cute, get comfortable and fix yrself a big pot of hot alcoholic drink, we're gonna get thru the night

Hm. Where do I start this anime. It was very emotion I found it kinda sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions at every direction. At first it seemed very interesting however when I got half way through I felt like giving up on it as the vibe wasn't very positive and the protagonist wasn't to my liking. However, for the hell of it I pulled through and carried on watching it. And I came to realise that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was to be honest. The ending surprised me ... a lot. I have to say PuraPura was probably my favourite character as he was interesting and very mysterious. But, overall I would rate this anime movie 7/10.

First of all, I'm not a big fan of anime movies. I think they try to be profound but end up being plain stupid. So when I started watching this one my expectations where very low . But I'm happy to say the rumors were true: this movie is amazing. And you know why? Because when you start watching it you think "omg! I hate everything from the animation, to the characters, the premise..." but five minutes later you are completely hooked! The animation doesn't bother you anymore (in fact you realize that is perfect for the movie). You find yourself hating the mc ... in one scene and feeling sorry for him in the next. You can even sympathize with the supporting cast even though they are not fully developed throughout the movie. I also like how they care more about friendship that romance! Specially the fact that one of the female characters talks about friendship and not love! That was imo original (for once the mc learns something more valuable than how to get a girlfriend)
And last but not least, you will cry A LOT. You've been warned!

This anime was a great discovery, a true hidden gem that I'm happy I was able to find. Colorful deals with very important themes such as depression, suicide or self-discovery through a brilliant narrative and with an incredible hardness but at the same time sweetness.

A film that is divided into two parts: the first hour and the second hour. The first hour is among the saddest things I've ever seen where, due to the protagonist's constant mistakes, we are faced with heartbreaking situations. But in the second part, the protagonist, Makoto, undergoes a profound change and thanks to the help of his first friend, he ... manages to repair the negative situations that he himself had created.

The plot has a very interesting premise and I loved this sort of two-part film that I explained in the previous paragraph. I also found the final twist really successful.

The characters are quite good, especially the protagonist, Makoto, who undergoes a nice evolution. Maybe I would have given a little more space to secondary characters who ultimately, in one way or another, play a fairly important role in Makoto's story. But it's a small thing.

I liked the soundtrack, with the right songs at the right time that made some scenes really beautiful.

Even the animation, despite some pretty bad CGI, is more than excellent. Furthermore, the CGI is only used a couple of times so it isn't very noticeable.

The themes covered are truly profound and I appreciated the underlying message regarding people's lives which does not just have one color but can have more.

Truly recommended.

This film tackles many tough subjects so if heavy films aren't for you tun away right now. The animation in this film wasn't anything especially extraordinary, but the story was what brought you in. I knew what the film was about going in and I thought it handled it very well. Except for in the end, I couldn't stand Purpura, but the ending made me almost like him. Throughout the film, I thought it was a solid 3.5 to 4-star film, but the final 10 or so minutes and the reveal made it 5 stars in my opinion. And remember the last words from "P"-Are ... you alive?

This movie is slice of life/social commentary with the use of fantasy to spice things up. This is a typical story about lack of communication, nevertheless with an easy going mood on serious topics. The relaxed feeling you get watching this show dealing with some relatable issues are the best part of it. The introduction is very effective and supports what might otherwise be a difficult situation to get into. As much as the premise tries to make the fantasy part important, it ends being just a device guiding the viewer with excitment through what might otherwise be a uninspired plot. The execution is what ... makes this movie enjoyable: despite raising typical questions, and concluding with typical answers, despite not having any satisfying character development, it dragged me all the way through and left me with a feeling of a time well spent. I won't recommend to buy it without a discount, as it is an enjoyable, polished but unambitious show.

What would you do if you are given a chance to start all over again? And what will happen if the new life you are given is not the most ideal of all?

It is quite different because I always thought reincarnation would be something like being born again as in a baby and a new person who still hasn’t created a life of its own. Not like a replacement to another person who already has a life of its own. Well, because of that kind of storyline, it becomes really interesting. Because the truth is not that clear at the beginning, finding out the truth ... throughout the film becomes really interesting and anticipating. I just love how the drama is made. It is not overly done just for the sake of making someone cry but rather it is really touching and moving. It can be really authentic considering this is about life. But most importantly, I love the moral lesson of it. Well, because it is a story about life, there are definitely lectures and lessons in life that we can really relate to.

The truth about Makoto’s life and what transpire when he committed suicide is already interesting, but the truth behind the life or what sin the one being reincarnated had is even more interesting. The revelations about both of them at the end are really worth the wait.

The animation is quite different as well. It feels real in major parts of it and the characters are put in it. Well, I don’t know much when it comes to animation, CG’s, 2D’s, and 3D’s. I may not know technical things when it comes to animation but I can still tell that it is made well and can be considered a breath of fresh air from the typical ones.

Stories about fantasies, supernatural and science-fiction are all nice and no doubt very interesting but there’s nothing more interesting than stories about life most especially if it’s made well. After encountering one, you will surely have some reflections. This is a story about life, forgiveness, chances, redemption, family, friends and most importantly, it is a story of being able to LIVE LIFE no matter how hard it is.

This anime deals with the issue of suicide, bully, family and friendship. And it had a interesting point in there why we forgive some people and not others for the same sin committed.
Anyways, just been watching random anime movie that's more older. To summarize the plot quickly... we are introduce to a unknown person who has died. He's told he's given a second chance to live for a short period of time to ... see if he'll get reincarnated. He must figure out the sin he committed in his past life to succeed in this mission.
A boy recently died and he is taking over this boy body. This is where our story begins as he tries to live out this person life trying to figure out his own story too. As we learn why this person tried killing them self.
Now as I said, this is older of a anime so the animation was decent at best. The plot is actually very enjoyable, though slow paced. It has interesting characters. While tackling some pretty tough issue, it handle them in a good way. The friendship was very sweet, I enjoyed that part a lot. The family part was probably the best part about this film. You can find some issue with the voice acting as this wasn't the greatest... it was good enough.

Whenever I read youtube comment section, people often said that "this anime is so tear-jerking" and I ended up with countless yawning and not even a single drop of tear.

But, even when I rewatch Colorful, I DO always cry.

This is, on my list so far, anime with the best humanity values: about depression, suicidal thought, the family of people with depression, and how to be grateful with everything we had.

The beauty of its key message and storytelling make me ignore the other aspect: I don't care about the visualization quality, the music, the plot, etc. The message is just to beautiful and ... I think human need to watch it.

A friend of mine have no interest in anime AT ALL (even she gives bad label for it). But she told me that this anime has moved her heart to strive for her life as she was stuck in the middle of deep struggle.

“It’s good, to have a tomorrow.”

Man that line is raw as hell.

This movie is very simple. There’s not all that much beyond its message, and the message is a simple one. Life is worth living. Don’t give up. The movie conveys this message really well, and it packs a pretty good emotional punch. It’s not amazing or anything, but it’s a solid watch. I liked it.

The animation is simple to accommodate this, but simple does not mean bad. It conveys the emotions of the characters to perfect effect, and honestly manages to look really beautiful in some moments. The entire movie manage to bring so ... much emotion to the table with what seems like very little to work with. While the majority of the runtime is spent on simple daily life things and character drama, by the end it slowly dawns on you that you've become invested in this boy, his life, and the outcome of his trial. I cried more hearing the line "I want to go to school with my friend" than I have for the deaths of many well-developed anime characters.

This movie absolutely isn't for everyone. It's slow and painful at times. It's a bit of a commitment to watch. However, it is worth a try, if only for the message. It's good to have a tomorrow. Life is worth living.

SHORT NON-SPOILER-REVIEW

First off: this anime made me cry - more than ten times in just two hours. If you like animes which just planned on making you sad, then this is the one for you.

Story: it's this one movie I always wanted to see, but I just couldn't find. It's so simple, yet so multifaceted. Also, it is religious, but this anime is not about typical religion, it's about happiness, friends, mental health and forgiveness. So, if you're an atheist, just like me; don't worry, just try it out!

Art & Sound: beautiful. It makes every minute of this movie feel complete. Might also be ... the reason why I cried so much.

Character: I really didn't like the protagonist at first, I just didn't understand his actions, because you don't get to see much of his past. But at the end I was really connected with his character. It's really just that I wanted to see more of his past, to understand and feel more.

Enjoyment: Some moments of this amazingly produced anime are kind of boring. It's a ' 50% Slice of Life', that's not everyone's favourite. Luckily, those moments are very rare and short.

If you like crying, just like me - give it a chance.

I decided to watch Colorful from searching through my friend's plan to watch list lol I came across this, seemed interesting and I finally watched it today. It was really good. I give this an 8.

Story: (9) I was very intrigued by the story. A soul, whom does not have a voice, notices that he is in purgatory. That's what it looked like to me, and he is selected to be reincarnated to start life over as someone else whom committed suicide. His guide is who he calls an angel. He wakes up in the hospital bed and is being told that he is now ... Kobayashi kun. Throughout his journey in this new life, he is trying to battle out something's. His life, his future in the physical world or spirit world, his family and so forth. It is a really well put together story and I really enjoyed it.

Art: (9) Me being an artist, of course I was going to fall in love with the art that's presented in this. Kobayashi kun is an artist, and super good at it too. His paintings mean so much and you can tell just by looking at it. They really focused on one of his paintings throughout the whole movie and you will see why at the end. The background and sceneries in the movie were awesome. The colors were vibrant and realistic. Love how they did everything.

Sound (8) Sound was great. Nothing too special when it comes to the background noise. The voice actors were very good. I was really drawn to Kobayashi kun voice. His voice was ok but I haven't heard that voice before. Guess I'll look up the voice actor who did him. Also, I liked the weird girl, Sano san. I liked when she studders or kept repeating herself with the following of "Hm. Hm." lol

Characters (8) Characters were cool. What I took most out of this movie besides the story and the message from it, I was so drawn to Kobayashi kun's mother. That poor mother has been through so much trying to keep her family together. She didn't have a good relationship with her mom but she helped her as much as she could in her life. She has tried to grow closer with her son but he kept pushing her away. Basically, bullied her. But she still kept trying and holding on. Because she loved her family. And there is one scene that made me so sad. Everyone at the table is eating and she is crying outloud at the table, and no one says anything to her. That hurt my heart.

Enjoyment: (8) I really liked this. I enjoyed it a lot. The characters, the message, the story. It was some great work and I applaud everyone who made this movie possible because it seems like the movie ratings or reviews aren't up there.

Overall (8) It was hard to say 9 or 8 for this film but I think it deserves an 8. It is really good and I think a lot of people could learn from this and enjoy it. Hope I helped. Jee ne :)

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this one considering this is one of the animes i found in a long list of other animes. then i found a music video for this movie and got interested cause i recognized the name.

When i finally started watching the movie i regretted not watching it sooner.

But back to the review.

I like the story for the most part though it does get boring in some parts but overall a good story.

The movie makes the characters seem realistic for the most part but couldn't feel feel a resonance with any particular character. Recognized a couple ... of the voice actors immediately such as MC, the "angel", and the one girl that the MC thought was annoying.

I think it has a good soundtrack. The music in some parts didn't help the scene any but at the same time didn't hurt it any. it was just there. but for the most part it actually made it very nice listening too. (I try to multi-task a lot but end up focusing on one thing at a time).

The art is a little simplistic but acceptable enough to not bug me too much.

Overall i think this was a good movie. Even though there were some minor things i was exactly overly surprised about. I think this is one of those shows that mostly focus on the story more than anything else. I suggest this to anyone who likes dramas and slice of life animes.

I think we all should ask ourselves this question from time to time..
We should try to live a life full of joy and happiness and stay away from worrying so much, I know it's hard but we have to train ourselves to do so.. life is too short to waste it! And we don't have to die twice!!, once is enough! This movie is so deep ! I think everyone should watch it especially ppl who have given up living their lives as they supposed to do, and also ppl who ... have suicide thoughts..

I really liked the family dynamic. Super depressing. I didint exactly like Saotome, nor many of the chcters outside of the family.this shows a side of depression and a way to change it. The mom was fing crazy, with the drama and pills. I like the death aspect and how he has 6 months to see if he gets a second chance.some parts felt like a sponsor with forced words or music.The anime started getting bad by the Saotome arc.The college scene is super sadening with Makoto saying he wants to be with his friend. I started disliking this anime by Saotomes part and the ... ending. The ending felt rushed and I wish it was explained more, but a simple rewatch of a clip would solve it. I really liked the family and the college discussion. I really like his brother hes just direct. I like how it says the family changed after Makotos suicide incident. I didint like the ending much. Wish it went more into the bullying and why his classmates dislike him

Honestly I had no expectations going into this movie. Once I started it and realized it was 2 hours and 7 mins I though to myself I hope it is all worth it. It actually was this movie had me on a emotional roller coaster especially the ending for this movie. I believe that it could have been a little better in the beginning but I believed that they cleaned it up towards the end. One thing I can say about this movie is that it had amazing character development and the things it teaches you about life are so deep. I personally thing my ... perspective on life and reality has changed a lot after watching this movie. I recommend people watch it if they want to feel an emotion or even if they want to watch something to learn about life or reality its self.

This is a masterpiece and only due to some technicalities my overall score comes up to a 9.4 but trust me the story and characters will hit you...hard.
The story begins in the most unique way. I just loved the opening. Then we got to know the rest of the characters. Every character in this movie is multi-faceted and complex to the core. Now lets get into the meat of this:: The cheating mother. I don't know what to say about it, tbh I think Makoto treated her in the right way but there wasn't any information from her side. His father definitely knows about it ... but decided not to act on it because of the suicide attempt( fishing lunch scene? I guess). This makes the father a much more greater human being than probably me because eventhough they explained it to me her reasons for doing it I still won't accept it. The fact that there wasn't a proper ending to this line was negative for me. Atleast this story shows the correct consequences of Cheating, which is much more than what doujins and hentai show us😂 everyone has a conscience and the guilt of stuff will eat you up. But still i hated the act of the mother but the mother's character as a whole was amazing.
Also the story seemed to speed up suddenly after crossing the 1 hr 30 min mark which took me out of it.
The artwork was fantastic. Use of real photos and then slowly blending to animation was beautifully done. The opening sequence itself shows the potential of this movie.
The sound design was pretty good as well. The use of no music at times gave the sense of uneasiness and using music at certain moments by swelling it to a crescendo just shows the artistic side of the sound director. Still I felt needing for more.
Characters as said were amazing wont change any of them.
Enjoyment to me was mixed. It isn't a movie which you end with feeling cheerful and happy, No it leaves tou melancholic and with a sudden urge to appreciate the people around you. Ofcourse that's an amazing thing to go for, but personally I've a sweet spot for wholesome happy and sugar drowsed ending.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who feels like its better to just end it than suffering any longer. Well actually anyone can enjoy it, wig the way the current world is I doubt anyone who won't relate to this movie.
