If Metallic Rouge has a million number of fans I am one of them. If Metallic Rouge has ten fans I am one of them. If Metallic Rouge has only one fan and that is me. If Metallic Rouge has no fans, that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Metallic Rouge, I am against the world.

The character and set design, voice acting, soundtrack, and action sequences make this show worth watching, even if the plot itself is difficult to follow along to. If you want a show you can watch for fun without caring so much for the narrative ... it’s trying to construct, it’s an enjoyable experience. I’m admittedly sticking around because of the aforementioned reasons I brought up earlier, in particular Yume Miyamoto and Tomoyo Kurosawa’s voice acting and Taisei Iwasaki's score. It’s not a show for everyone though and that’s fine. Different strokes for different folks.

The anime explores a world where humans and androids collaborate on a mission to Mars led by Rouge Redstar and Naomi Orthmann. At the beginning, it reminded me a lot of Blade Runner.

Bones has a solid legacy with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Mob Psycho 100, and My Hero Academia, so high expectations for the animation were already in place. The anime manages to be precise in its placements, not rushing to explain what's happening. This only makes you more eager to keep watching. The fights are very well done, without exaggeration but still maintaining the action. Just not recommended for those who are used to spoon-fed ... storylines.

God damn, this may be the best anime this season. I pity the people sleeping on this. An anime original with great animation, sound, visuals, characters and that too an ever expanding lore, sign me in. That clown girl had some hot moves in ep5. I am completely hooked as of ep5. Op and ed are absolute bangers in and of themselves, and battle music goes hard too.

People be dumb for hating good dystopian shows, just because the story is confusing or slow at first. The real fun happens when you give it enough time to unfold and amuse us lol. I am definitely watching ... it till the last episode of this show.

The story is way deep according to the glimpses of past that they are giving. And this being an anime original just keep me up on toes as anything can happen, you dont get the same feeling when the manga already exists. Add to it the sci-fi, power, aliens, mecha, AI-robots, consider me a fan, cant wait for the next episode.

Up front, I'm only saying this as a recommendation because of how much it gets me thinking about the themes & narrative structure. I'm not saying it's bad in a bait and switch manner, but it is definitely a unique series that would open a bit of discussion. This series has a lot going for it while also a lot of confusing content that may or may not hinder the viewing experience.

Pros: The characters are very well written. The world is very interesting and carries a bit of a social commentary with it that is hit or miss depending on the circumstances in questions.

The biggest ... issue with this series comes down to a mix of things. The series is very high-concept. It tackles a lot of topics and this is where a bit of it comes back in its face. A lot of the times when it comes to high-concept series, they need more time to develop for the audience to latch onto. It also comes into confliction when you factor how the characters play out which can either make them seem fleshed out or plot puppets, which is quite literally for this series at the very end, which is where the confusion comes into play.

This is not easy to explain. This is one of those watches where you can kind of need a second viewing just to see if it is really well written or trying to push too much into a tiny hole. One argument you could make is that this series needed to be longer to flesh out some of its elements, but it could also stand that in order to see the twists coming, a second watch would make you better appreciate them.

At the core of the series is the titular Rouge who acts as the main perspective for the viewers. She carries a naive, innocent air that makes the surprise plot twists feel like they came out of nowhere feel warrant as though she has been used, which plays into the whole overarching idea of the series.

At the least, Naomi is best girl. That scene in Episode 10. I wonder who had more fun, the voice actress or the animator?

In a future where humans have faced life from other stars and developed human like androids, is a possible rebellion rising.

Metallic Rouge is about Rouge and Naomi, who is tasked with dealing with leaders of a possible android rebelion. We then see them traveling across worlds to hopefully accomplish their goal, and conquer the challenges on their way.

The plot of the show is very different from most animes that are released, since the plot here is convoluted and only unravels a bit of it at a time. The show starts in media res, where we over the first couple of episodes starts to get a ... more clear idea of what is going on. It is an interesting plot that shows a lot of depth and only reveals things as it sees it necessary, which leaves the viewer with questions. Some might find the plot hiding too much or maybe over complex at times.

The character struggles in the show are not simple questions, but are more on an existential level. This is very much shown through the two main characters, where we see how their struggles really follow them and help shape their identity. This is also shown for some of the side characters, where they as well have to confront themselves and their decisions.

When it comes to the animation, are there more darker colors shown throughout. Which helps give the show a more serious tone to it, and also makes the brighter scenes stand out more, since they often show something different.

The whole thing this series is going for is a more complex plot and characters that falls under the same category. But they are doing this while trying to keep it an action show with some cool fights in it, which is generally done pretty well.

So if you like a more complex series with some cool sci-fi fights, would I definitely recommend this show.

I'll give this anime a chance, the fact that it's not another isekai crap makes me feel positive about this series.

The animation in this anime is the top 2 of this season, really nicely done and impressive action scenes with an interesting soundtrack in the background.

As for the characters, of course the two MCs stand out the most, they have different characters, Naomi is the more mature one and Rouge is the childish one, it is interesting to watch their interaction, even though after three episodes their relationship is not yet developed enough.
But I ... think Rouge shines the most in this series, she's really cute and strong at the same time, and her autistic character can make you smile, you just want to watch her.

The anime is pleasant to watch, although after the first episode we know almost nothing about the world and the motivations of the characters, the first episode already gives the impression that we were thrown into the middle of the season.
For me, it's a plus at the moment because the characters don't explain things that are obvious to them, such as scientists from Interstellar who flew into space and have to explain the basics of their mission to other scientists, the time will simply come and we'll see what comes of it.

After episode 3, the plot is not outstanding, for now it is based on standard science fiction tropes, but I think it can go in an interesting direction, I hope so, since the creators are releasing a webtoon comic in March, maybe I actually have an interesting idea for this series and not it will be nothing.

OK. The music didn't have to go THIS hard like damn.

It's as if you took Carole and Tuesday, and gave it some Cyberpunk flavor, and you've got this as a result. A result that while takes a moment to really kick in, but as made for a quality product from start to finish. Sure, it's not without it's flaws, but it'll be one the good animes of the season no doubt.

Story and characters: 8
I will say, the story takes a good moment to get going. It really does, but once it does, your interest will be peaked, and you'll want to see more. But what ... really helps the story, is the two main characters. Good chemistry can really carry a product forward. Something which Naomi has bucket loads, and it really meshes well with the more serious sounding Rouge. It's because of their bond and friendship, that makes you even more interest in the world around them, and the story they're trying to tell. You want to see where these characters go next, what they'll do next, the works. Having a good solid pair really amps up the show in terms of it's quality, and what it's trying to deliver.

To touch more into detail of it's story, as to me, it has such a nice blend. There is a level of fun and seriousness with it's presentation. But what I really like in how it does it, is that it's a very serious story, but the light moments really hit home, as if despite moments being hard, you can have a laugh and a joke here or there. As even with it being such, it's still treated with absolute seriousness, that doesn't devalue any of the story at all.

Art and sound: 9
One of it's key highlights for me is this for sure. The quality of it's art direction, just take the OP and EDs for an example of it. Hell well it looks, how it flows. It looks so good. Not to mention really capturing the landsaces perfectly and making each setting look and stand out real well. Not to mention the wonderful soundtracks that aren't just the OP and ED. But also during such as well. It'll pop out of no where, and really catch you off guard, and you'll enjoy such a rocking beat. Really well done in both departments.

Metallic Rouge is a fun and interesting anime, that'll be ones to watch for this season for sure.

Back to the 80's and 90's type of space/sci-fi/cyberpunk anime! I really have to say the studio did a great job at this!
Now, it is obviously not fully set in the past sense of anime. Clearly the characters look more of today while the art style is more from the past with a modern tint to it. Which actually works very well.

Now, I do have to state clearly that the story starts out rather confusing as it doesn't tell you what is going on, nor at the end you have all answers. It is also highly recommended for a audience that is a bit older, ... 100% now for small kids as they won't understand too much of it nor get much of the plot. So I would advice 16 years and older as ballpark idea.

Without telling anything about the spoilers, I can't really state much. There are so many people in the review section that gave up far too early on this one that I really have to state they are fools for doing so. By only seeing a few episodes and not finishing you will do yourself and this anime a huge disservice. I can't state enough that this could well be one of the big anime names as cult classics. I highly recommend to see everything and I for sure do recommend giving it a fair chance.

The second season will be very interesting as the end of season 1 ends up quite interesting. I wonder where they will take this one from here!

It's beautiful, very animated, intelligent and complex. The constant action scenes are a highlight, since the computer graphics do not clash, to the point of raising doubts as to whether they are actually being used. Furthermore, the action scenes stand out for being detailed, having consistency and above-average fluidity. Another positive aspect of the work are the various themes it addresses, such as: the role of machines, the fragility of life, eternity, freedom, and the protagonist fighting against things that should be in her interests.

However, it is likely that the anime will not please everyone, as it only features female protagonists performing typical male activities. ... Furthermore, the environment of Mars is usually not well accepted by the contemporary public. To top it off, there is an absence of romance, which is a common attraction in anime.

In the past, science fiction has used Mars for countless successful works, but this was at a time when there was little knowledge of the planet and fascinating speculations dominated common sense. Continuing to use Mars as an Earth 2.0 is not only a question of saturation in the genre, but mainly of it no longer seeming plausible.

It is possible to notice an attempt to make the protagonists more feminine, perhaps as a way of anticipating possible criticism, but there is no way to hide the progressive ideology present. This ideology has caused the destruction of good stories and ruined the entertainment industry. As a consequence of terrible ideological works, there is a great automatic rejection from the public in this generation. However, a work with this ideology is not always bad. Unfortunately, although Metallic Rouge is great, it wasn't released at the right time to shine. Furthermore, it is necessary to add that GoKu's naivety, even in small drops, does not suit female characters.

This anime trully encapsulates the beauty of studio bones, and what a beauty it is!

Terrific animantion, espectacular soundtrack, complex and intriguing characters an even deeper (possibly convuluted) storyline, wich is to be expected out of this kind of dystopian storytelling.

Altough the start is a bit slow, the battle music kicks-in in a way that just takes you straight into the action, as well as the very suiting op and ed.

The animation style makes each characther memorable and unique wich translates really well into the robots fight for freedom as well as the main charachters purpose in the story, think of a "Pluto" type of ... universe in a "Heavanly delusion" setting. (I'm sorry those were my two favs last year and this is looking like a very strong contender for my favorite of the season).

Cute girls, robots and inequality, can't wait to see where this story goes!

It's rare to find shows like this maybe because future themes just dont blend well with the usual pacing of anime or how it makes you relate to the characters. With this work, I mostly felt satisfied in this world with its story. I wouldn't say this is on the same level as edge runners, but despite suffering from pacing problems, the anime eventually makes you like the MC and her side kick. You also get to experience a convincing moral dilemma brewing in the dystopian world, which some find generic, but fits well with the plot. I'm not going to criticize an anime that ... attempts to go into deeper subjects for not having espoused its ideas more effectively or clearly. Yes there are several plotholes that the writer may have overlooked logically, but I think the enjoyment outweighs the sophistication. The grimness of the plot is complemented by interesting ideas. I personally dont think this anime is a flop like most people do. In fairness I think it deserves a mid 7.

Rouge Redstar, an chocoholic android girl, and her partner Naomi Ortmann, undertake a mission to Mars. Their objective is to discover and eliminate the Immortal Nine, a faction of rebellious androids posing a threat to the government and society.

The series promises a deep exploration of themes such as AI ethics, rebellion, societal treatment of androids post-war, and the world’s dependence on a critical resources.

It felt like an odd anime at first, and I had to ... re-watch the first 3x episodes back-to-back, to appreciate the nuances of the series. The android battles are awesome, and I look forward to more action and drama in the series.

Sci-fi spectacle with good animation. Story is not that original, and revolves around free of will. Main problems here is that motivation of villains is just too poor and boring. One antagonist is crazy maniac, another is wannabe revolutionary without own plans and dependence on unknown third party, and the last one is just going for world domination. The main antagonist is just sad excuse of a human being, stop sign would have more charisma at stopping the main heroine. Low screen time for antagonists does not help either. At any rate, execution of their conflict is too artificial and just bad.

It is just sad ... to see ending to flop so hard, as first ~3 episodes set up excellent expectations. This expectations are alive until last few couple episodes, when source of technology pops out of nowhere and it become obvious where things are going. So much money wasted on good animation quality to mediocre story. Still it is at least not painfully stupid and watchable.

Upon reflection, it becomes evident that the narrative depth and pacing would have ideally suited a lengthier span of episodes, perhaps extending to a total of 25.

Given the constraints of a concise 13-episode format, the decision to introduce this pivotal plot development earlier, specifically at the sixth episode, emerges as a pragmatic narrative choice.

In summation, the anime undeniably excels, offering viewers a captivating journey filled with ... intricately woven plotlines and rich character development. Its overall quality shines brightly, despite the potential for expansion, leaving a lasting impression on its audience.

Out of Vivi's fluorite song and this the first one is probably the one with the rounder package. This show still offers a lot of interesting sci fi ideas and ultimately it is sad to see that the studio didn't have the time or budget to flesh out some of the animations. That really takes a dip towards the end of the season.

The rating for this show absolutely surprises me. The story might not be told in the most efficient way but it is an actual story, delivered with great music and actually decent animation when it matters most. Some things i would personally criticize ... are ceratin .. "coincidences" which stack on top of each other towards the end but it is so little, you can actually just ignore it.
One thing i'll implement here is that i don't like the argument of many reviews about the first episode being confisuing as hell. That is just straight up ignorant because if anything, the show builds greatly upon the happenings of that episode. So much so that you expect a bit more out of the anime towards the end.

One criticism i absolutely agree with but also excuse for the producing studio with the arguments i opened up with, is that the story feels a bit rushed overall. There is a nice emotional growth happening in multiple layers and you are kind of expected to just go with it even though only very few scenes actually establish this growth and development.

Overall metallic rouge is a much better watch for someone who can get behind subtle character development.

Verdict
Metalic Rouge may lose some steam towards the end, but its initial charm is undeniable. Dive into the first few episodes to experience the magic for yourself – from the captivating OST to the delightful duo dynamic and the intriguing blend of sci-fi and Slice of Life elements.

A hidden gem, could've watched the whole thing in one go if I didn't have to sleep for work. Main point to keep in mind is the show builds upon each EP one after the next, it's best served in 1-3 days so that everything stays relevant and builds up quickly and fresh in your mind. I can see how people seeing 1 ep a week forget everything once the next episode is released and thought it's random and did themselves a disservice. Same analogy as eating 1 grain of rice a week instead of just grabbing a spoonful.

Visually stylish & similar to Akudma drive ... - story tidbits & world building are really dam interesting and get told similarly to how Durara & Odd Taxi developed. It's got cyberpunk esque vibes in gritty dystopian bladerunner type of settings.

Base scores based on how immersive and interesting things are, how few time's I could watch an episode and not have to skip anything out of sheer boredom or getting deja-vu from already seeing something similar.

9-10 on the entertainment level, definitely worth a watch.

If you are a person who is familiar with the politics of today's world and the politics of countries, you can fully comprehend and enjoy the events, minority opinions, institutions and double-dealing in this anime. If you are not, this anime might even get you into politics. Of course, today's politics and minorities are not in the anime, but the things you see in the anime definitely remind you of something you know.

Anyway, let's move on to the "real" content of the anime; the events between the minority Neans (a kind of android/alien slave) and humans. In our anime universe, between Neans and humans; ... We see something about the struggle of organizations that want to maintain order, ensure peace or rebel. Of course, we are talking about a universe where everyone puts their own goals first (just like today's world). But the whole anime is not centered on this complex issue of holding power. We learn and will continue to learn about the origins of the Neans and these organizations.

As for the technical details about the anime;

Opening and ending: Perfect. 10/10.

Music and ambience: Good quality music that draws you into the anime.

Animation: It doesn't have perfect animations but it's good enough, smooth but just as attractive.

Story: A great plot that builds on what I have and haven't mentioned in my reviews. 9/10
