Spy x Family Movie: Code: White

I'll admit there may be some biases in my review having experienced a full house at midnight in Japan on a weekday, but this movie really encapsulates the charms of Spy x Family while keeping the audience engaged with a high-stakes story. Comparing it to the 2 seasons that have aired so far, this (while not "canon") is the most exciting Spy x Family arc I've been able to watch.

If you enjoy Spy x Family as a whole, it's a great fun watch. Even for new watchers who want a nice movie to see if they want to give the show a try, it ... gives enough exposition to the characters for you to jump right in.

Animation - top notch work from the animators at CloverWorks & Wit once again. The action scenes were splendid, easy to follow, and felt nicely paired with the ongoing plot. Yor fans will eat good.

Story - Pacing was really nice, and what initially feels like separate anime episode mini-stories eventually blend nicely into an over-arching plot

Humor - Each cast member's humor was written and executed in a very on-brand way. Especially Anya...

But, yes, the movie is not perfect by all means. You can check my profile for my rating scale. There's inconsistencies, plot holes that make sense for a "filler movie", and lack of screen time for certain characters. Overall though, it was really enjoyable and a fun winter flick!

It was very random. The story kinda happens near Christmas time and I watched it during Christmas in Japan so it was just about the right time to watch the movie.
Alot of things just happened spontaneously.
The plot is pretty standard, the family gets introduced, they chill, a chance to get a star is given, the family tries to get it, goes through hard ship, family happy again.
It is a great movie and matches with the Spy x Family worlds energy perfectly. I'd definetly look forward to Anya doing the weirdest things possible in another possible future Spy x Family movie.

In general 10/10, good ED songs ... and funny story. Will watch again when film releases in EU.

If you liked the TV shows, and if you liked the characters, well they are all here, almost all of them. The movie feels like a paint by number box checking exercise. Everyone gets to do their "thing" and gets their big screen screen times. But the plot is thin and in normal Anime OVA fashion, nothing is at stake. Sure there are big action, great sakuga moments to show the budget of a movie. But it just doesn't feel like a proper film.

its fun, lots to see, but I was still checking my watch and rolled my eyes a lot at multiple points of ... the film. I don't know if its better or worse, when I think the film itself knows what its doing.

If you liked the first two seasons of Spy x Family so far, then I can very much recommend Code White. This movie essentially is a prolonged episode of the show. The best thing about a Spy x Family story having a longer runningtime is that each member of the Forger family is given their chance to shine, with no one really feeling left out or benched by the end of it. The shenanigans we see then get in are familiar to a returning audience, but non the less still very entertaining.

The plot can be a little messy and disjointed from time to time, with ... the general objective of main characters mission kinda changing a bit too rapidly. The villain also feels a little undercooked, for I still actually have no clue what his plan was other than getting his hands on the MacGuffin. But all that aside, this film offers us beautiful action scenes, some of the most hilarious Anya moments in the series so far (apparently even the lowest forms of humor can be turned into art when the right animators are put in charge) and some pretty sweet bonding moments for the family. Part of me wished those bonding moments could have gone a little bit further, especially because of the incident that sets the entire film's plot in motion, but perhaps it would be best to save that for a future installment of Spy x Family.

All and all, this was a fun watch and I would certainly recommend it

"Waku, Waku - Anya wants peanuts" - new adventures with the fluffy Anya finally on the big screen. Original-Content-Movies are often a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you want to tell an exciting story, but at the same time you can't interfere with the events of the manga or bring anything that has a lasting impact on the main story. Experience has shown that such films are often incredibly dull or no longer feel like the series at all. But not with the Spy x Family film. If you like the series, you'll definitely get your money's worth with the movie.

The film is completely ... detached, so you don't need to have seen the entire 2 seasons. It helps if you've seen the characters before (especially to understand some of the running gags), but theoretically someone who's never seen the series before could also enjoy the movie.

The story seems just as contrived as the main plot of the series. Loid is in danger of being withdrawn early from Operation Strix due to a lack of results. To prevent this, he wants to ensure that Anya achieves a Stellar in her school cooking class - by preparing her teacher's favorite dish. To get the ingredients and familiarize Anya with the dish, the family travesl to northern Frigis. But what sounds like a relaxed family trip quickly escalates into a chase with two members of Ostania's Military Intelligence, who work for the unscrupulous Colonel Snidel, who wants to destroy the East-West peace with his war plans.

Basically the whole thing is slapstick. As in the series, Anya repeatedly finds herself, partly through her gift and partly by chance, in absurd situations, chases and fights, from which Loid and Yor, mostly unconsciously, free her. But while the series, with the exception of the Cruise-Adventure-Arc, mostly has very short missions, here you have the time to experience a longer, epic story. It was nice that there were a lot of scenes with the three of them together - because while in the series it's often done so that the three don't get in each other's way in the action scenes for the purpose of camouflage, here we see Loid , Yor and Anya act together most of the time - and it works extremely well.

Differents aspects of Spy x Family were covered here. There were funny scenes, some thoughtful, romantic, action-packed moments and of course a lot of the fuzzy Anya - who sometimes puts out one meme-like one-liner after the next. The only thing I found a bit weird was the strong fecal humor in between - something that was hardly common in the series. But luckily this only lasted a few minutes.

Almost every character from the main series makes an appearance. Some contribute to the plot, some are just in the film so you can see them briefly, but it's still nice that everyone can see their favorite character.
For the most part, the animation is no different than in the series - not so the epic action scenes. A great job has been done here. If you have the opportunity to go to the cinema, watch it on the big screen. It's simply an experience.

The songs by Official Hige Dandism and Gen Hoshino, listed here on MAL, are great. Sadly they can only be heard in the end credits - they deserve to be integrated into the film (e.g. as part of the opening scene or as interlude music). Voice acting is on point too. Especially in the german version you'll get, as in the series, some popculture allusions, that were not in the original.

It was clear that nothing earth-shattering would happen here, but for the 110 minutes Code White knows how to entertain. If you like the series, you will definitely like the movie too. However, if you belong to the faction that is already annoyed by the repetitive storylines and lack of story development in the main series, you're probably better off investing the money in a few packs of peanuts.

Of course, the cinema experience also plays a part here. It was just a great feeling to be cheering and laughing along with the big crowd. If I had seen the film alone on my laptop I probably might have rate it 1 - 2 points less, but nevertheless "Spy x Family" is extremely good for an Original-Movie.

Pack with action, comedy and of course family. When you think Anya doesn't get weirder, she got weirder.

The animation, cinematography, color all of those are muach muach muach love it! Each member of the family has their own action scene and time to shine, even Bond. Anya get the weirder one for sure. There's a moment in the movie I was like "where the hell is this animation come from?"

Those sound effect also spectacular, hence I recommend to watch it in cinema if it is available in your country!
The plot is pretty simple and straight to the point with funny moment here and there, but ... there's few moment that feels doesn't make sense and feels like a plot hole (or maybe paradox) if we reconsider with the original. But the movie doesn't count as canon, so I think it's okay.

Overall it is A FUN MOVIE!!! I had a BLAST!

this movie Upgrade everything! like more expression on every character especially Anya, she got more expressive on this movie. the visual while it's not the most beautiful, it still really good!
Story is really simple, but they manage to make it exciting for the viewer. you don't need a lot of braincells to understand the story and the plot coz it's really simple. the villain well, kinda goofy. i mean it's Spy x Family sothe villain is not those really evil individuals that want to destroy the world or something.
but ... the most important part is i got a really good laugh on some part, like a really really good laugh that i almost can't breath inside the theatre LOL.

overall this anime pack a ton of fun, joy, and warmness just like the main series. So if you haven't watch it, i recommend you to watch it!

Watch it!

Fun, funny family entertainment. Keep in mind that the humour will be silly since it's a family movie. I believe that the movie is not canon. That made me quite sad because I thought it would get something that would add to the story, especially after season 2. However, I find it fun anyway. I would always watch more Spy x Family since the plot is not that complicated anyway. Sometimes in the movie, it made my head scratch, but other than that it's good.

9/10 - Anyone can watch it (has a small intro at the start)

Movie that works for first time viewers and those who are up to date with anime TV! If I could sum up the movie in one sentence: The Forgers are not alone. THE 3 of them are a FAMILY and they must face problems together.

Many think they should skip it because it's not part of the story, but it's a satisfying and visual spectacle with a round beginning and ending that makes you can put it on BEFORE or AFTER S2. (There's a certain scene with Bond that's going to remind you of the last episode of season 2 and this is just one example). ... They give you all the context so you understand the story from the beginning and the good thing about Spy Family is that it is very intuitive and they explain everything in detail.

Story: A plot that reminds you of how close the Forger family is and how their occurrences motivate them to stick together in a series of unfortunate events (very convenient) but that reinforce their family bond.
This movie mixed the best of the anime seasons and compressed it into one movie, even recycling some moments and phrases, but with another perspective, which makes it more enjoyable and that's why anyone can watch it without having seen anything. It has an absurd but very good comedy as it is to be expected from this franchise, you will laugh in more than one occasion.

ANIMATION: It's probably not that outstanding overall, but at key moments, both Loid and Yor's scenes get excellent animation sequences that you should enjoy in the theater. Even Anya has her "magic" moment which required great animation.

if you love to Spy x Family, this movie will be a treat for you.
The first half was your average episode, both animation and story-wise. With the second half the difference is like night and day. The choreography of the fights is amazing, and so is the pacing, photography, compositing, and backgrounds. You can definitely see is a movie. Not going to lie, it was hilarious how the biggest amount of sakuga was in the toilet God sequence.

It's also great at establishing the characters and the world for those who never watched the show, so that's a good excuse to force your friends ... to watch it ;)

My only small complaint (🤓☝️) is that I wished that Official HIGE DANdism's song was played during the movie and not at the very end in the credits. It's a fantastic song on par (or even better) than the first opening, and listening it with the cinema's speakers is just godly. Maybe I'm a little biased haha.

And any Italian fellas, the dub is really good :)

This movie does a great job of balancing the two types of story elements in SpyxFamily; cute family scenes and exciting action sequences. The themes and character development feels natural to the series while still keeping in mind that this is a spin-off movie, with references to some season 1 episodes present to further connect to the series.

That said, some of the plotlines fell a little flat (Yor’s in particular) which keeps me from giving a top score. It’s tough to make a storyline that fits with the show without feeling like it’s either essential to the plot or too obtrusive, so I’m giving it ... a pass even though it wasn’t to my taste, as it does realistically fit SpyxFamily as a whole quite well.

As for the animation, this movie has a lot of fun sequences that play with animation styles. One sequence in particular had the whole theater laughing, so it’s definitely a fun viewing with lots of creative energy poured into it.

Overall, this is a solid movie for fans of SpyxFamily. Watching the first season, or at least a few episodes, gives all the context for the movie’s plot, and the tone and pacing are quite similar to the show, so if you’ve seen a few episodes and liked what you saw, this movie will be fun to view.

Ahh the Spy X Family movie. I watched this movie on the big screen! I could not believe how wide of a release this movie got here in the States, especially since ALL the theatres in my area were showing it. In my local theater, on the Sunday of opening, there were a total of *Nine* people including me in that screening. Nine. Not sure why there was such a wide release for it, but am curious on how the Box Office of this movie would be. Even The First Slam Dunk did not get nearly as wide of a release in the States, and ... I missed out on that one sadly.

Anyway beyond that, I liked the movie for the most part. The movie made some very interesting choices, but since this is a spoiler-free movie I shall not spoil the plot.

The Story: It is a Non-Canon movie, meaning that none of the pot affects what happens in the main Spy x Family anime. What this essentially means is that even the average Joe who has never watched any Spy x Family could grasp what is going on since at the start they go over each character and what they do. Regardless, I'll take any Spy x Family canon or not. But to discerning viewers who just want to watch the plot progress of the main anime, you do get information on some school stuff as well as intel on potential military and other countries as well. It is information that could be handy throughout your mission of watching the show. Good luck soldiers.

The Animation: The BEST animation of Spy X Family, but that is to be expected given this is a higher-budget anime movie instead of an episode—still, really nice animation quality. The action scenes the SoL scenes and all in between are gorgeous.

The Music: The Background music perfectly situates all of what happens in the story throughout.

Gripes: Why did I give this an 8/10? Well, it has to do with the story. The problem is what they do, how could none of them even recognize that one is clearly not a City Hall employee and the other is not a Psychiatrist when all this happens, especially as Loid casually is a perfect taster and pilot? I guess it is an anime and a comedic one at that so cannot fault it too much but still it is a bit absurd at this point.

Final score: 8/10

I went to see this in theatres today, and overall it was a pretty fun day out!

Someone in the group was completely new to the series, and luckily she could follow along just fine between the movie and looking over a brief overview.

On the other hand, I'm completely caught up on the anime and currently reading the manga, so I had some basic expectations that were reasonably met. I was pleasantly surprised with more Bond than I bargained for, since the trip during Season 2 left him back home. And overall, there's arguably more action in this movie than the entirety of the series ... so far, which isn't particularly something I was looking for but also not a criticism against it... just something different in regards to a movie format as opposed to the meandering, funny day-to-day the main series is known for.

Lil Anya and Bond still cute. Lloid and Yor still amazing. The plot starts rolling by eating a piece of chocolate the government is after, so you know it's your Spy x Family shenanigans. Solid addition to the series.

What a goddamn great movie. I‘m writing this fresh out of the cinema. I‘ll try to split the review into some categories, without spoiling. I recommend having seen the first two seasons of the show, but it is not necessarily required as all of the important aspects are explained again.

Animation: 10/10
Wit Studio, Toho Animation, Cloverworks, everyone working on the movie gave it its best. Spy X Family continues to have some of the best animation in the industry. The fight scenes were amazing, the camera movement, every single detail.

Story: 8/10
I‘ll try to spoil as little as possible here. Our family is going on a trip ... and circumstances lead to them having to complete a challenging mission together. It is predictable at parts, but nonetheless enjoyable. Some side drama caused for very interesting and entertaining plot aspects, The Movie never felt boring throughout it‘s whole runtime. There are some things that did not make that much sense, but these did not harm the plot on a large scale.

Characters: 9/10
All of the characters have their own reason for giving their best to the mission. Their motives and feelings are shown very well and the dynamic between the characters is something the show has done well since it‘s first episode. This Movie is no exception to that.

Music/Voice Acting: 9/10
The Music was also good, a lot of tracks known from the first two seasons of the anime. Sound effects were great too, especially in the Ultimate Cinema Room I got to watch it in. Having it watched in German, Spy X Family continues to have one of the best dubs I‘ve ever watched. More in the Comedy Paragraph

Comedy: 9/10
Comedy is subjective. That being said, not every „comedy“ anime is able to get the majority of people laughing. But the Movie continues to bring jokes that are actually great and had the whole cinema laughing. The german dub did a great job, having a lot of sayings that fit the show perfectly.

Overall: 9/10
It is a great movie I can only recommend watching. Watch It with your friends, your family, your pets, whoever you want to watch it with, I believe the Movie is something that almost everybody can atleast find some enjoyment in. If you disliked the first two seasons, you will probably dislike the movie aswell.

Spy X Family: Code White is a Movie with a great story, god-tier animations with intense action scenes, but with great slice-of-life family aspects aswell. "Spy x Family" is a manga or anime centered around the concept of a temporary family. This theme seems to address a void for readers or viewers living in modern society where the number of single-person families is increasing and interpersonal connections are weakening (at least in East Asia). Additionally, the adorable and charming characters seamlessly blend into the genre's characteristic warmth, crafting a heartwarming narrative. Personally, I believe these elements are crucial aspects of the original work.

However, the extraordinary success of this animation isn't solely attributed to having a solid original work. The seemingly insane quality of the animation reflects the staff's unwavering belief ... in the inevitable success of this anime. Neat Sakuga and the stellar performances by the lavish cast of voice actors delight our senses, while the outstanding action scenes blur the lines of the animation's genre. Especially in the latter part of the movie, during the battle scene, you can feel the nice quality of the animation, to the point where it seems like the animators are experimenting with unique directing techniques despite the animation already being complete and polished.

Given that the genre of this movie falls under slice of life, those who prefer serious or dynamic stories may have reservations. However, I can't imagine an animation with better quality based on this story. Therefore, "Spy x Family" stands out as a noteworthy piece of work in terms of animation craftsmanship.

Spy x Family Movie: Code: White is a fun, simple, and enjoyable movie despite being filler. It is not really a heavy and convoluted movie; in fact, the plot is simple yet not tedious (in my opinion). The way the conflict is presented in the movie and how the characters would resolve it is presented in a direct manner. It is a fun watch, and it has the charm that Spy x Family had in the anime.

I'd like to talk about the writing of the characters in this movie! Although I wish the movie tackled more about the antagonist's backstory, I don't see any ... issues with that because it still makes sense. The main characters (Anya, Yor, Twilight, and Bond) were not out of character (which is something that some anime movies have issues with), and the movie definitely focused on all of their relationships with one another, or rather, strengthening their relationships with one another. 

There is a character in the movie that reminded me of that Marvel character, because that character and *that character in Marvel* have some similarities in physical appearance and face. Moving on, the animation was done well, and there are some action scenes that kind of reminded me of Attack on Titan, which is amazing. The music in this movie (which is composed by (K)NoW_NAME) also has some similarities to the series itself, except it is made more grand and majestic and makes you feel like you're watching a detective movie. 

Overall, I recommend it. If you want to have a good time, then I recommend you watch it. I watched this in the movie theater, and I had a fun time (especially since there are scenes in the movie that are hilariously done well). 

Just like the show you see on TV, it has your favorite characters, bannered by the lovable Anya and it allowed her talented parents with their own cinematic moments. It has the bigger budget to animate such incredible moments, like its own version of the Hindenburg disaster and Anya's toilet humor.

This story was never in the manga, though the author could elect to add it later on. It still made it the right story for a movie you could watch with your brain off for fun, enjoying such plot threads as Loid being cool, Yor being deadly, and Anya being her adorable self, while being ... ably supported by the Handler, Agent Nightfall, and the glue that holds the fake family Forger together, Bond.

If you're like me and love the Spy x Family show, then the Code White movie is just for you. Since this film is a side story to the main series, this Spy x Family: Code White can be enjoyed by really anyone, whether you've kept up with the anime/manga, or if you haven't been following Spy x Family. This movie does a quick overview of the current state of the Spy x Family story to keep both new viewers and fans alike fresh on what's happening with the Forgers.

The writing itself is very much streamlined with the show which is great if you've been ... itching for more wacky silly fun from Anya, Loid, and Yor. The slice of life elements of this movie do a pretty good job at entertaining us with the goofiness of the Forgers that fans of the show would be all so familiar with going into this film, while also laying out what makes these characters so loveable and enjoyable to follow for those who haven't seen the show before.

Since Code White is a movie, I assume that the budget given for this film is higher than your typical Spy x Family season, which is evident in a few scenes sprinkled throughout the movie. There are a moments sporadically placed throughout the runtime of the film where it really did seem like the animation team was allowed to go all out and deliver something really pleasing to watch, and something that they probably wouldn't have been able to do in the flagship show.

As fun as this movie was, there was a slight drawback that I had, that being the ending. I get that Spy x Family: Code White is meant to be a non-canon side story meant to please the appetite of fans of the show while also potentially drawing in new audiences, the story does feel a little bit... pointless. I'm not gonna spoil much, but there was a moment that does pass by very quickly that kind of made the entire journey a little bit meaningless. However, it's not enough to hold back the film since the whole point of this movie is to have the main three characters spend more time as a family. That is the core foundation of this series, and this movie is very much streamlined with that narrative.

Overall, Spy x Family: Code White is a fun movie that can be viewed and enjoyed by anyone. If you need something to feed your insatiable appetite for Spy x Family, then this movie will do just that. If you're someone that hasn't seen the show before, then this movie will serve you just fine, and maybe even convince you to check out the rest of this anime

+ As usual, Spy x Family's characteristic charm is on full display in this feature-length movie!
+ Some of the comedic gags (particularly those relating to Anya) got a great laugh from the audience!
+ It is a completely original story (i.e. independent from the manga), which makes it a viable entry point for any newcomers to the series. That said, I would personally recommend watching at least the first two cours (25 episodes) of the TV show before watching the movie.
~ There is a heavy reliance on cutaway jokes and shoehorned cameos from side characters, which significantly weakens the pacing and story structure because they add ... nothing to the plot.
~ All of the big spy action set pieces, while impressive and well-animated, are shoved into the last 30 minutes of the movie. This makes for an uneven experience where most of the movie is just comedy hijinks and slice-of-life moments.
~ Here's my biggest issue: the three main characters (Loid, Yor, Anya) each have their own internal conflicts and embark on their own separate adventures, but each of their subplots are also resolved independent of each other. They only work together as a family near the very end, essentially stumbling into one another after their personal subplot has been resolved.

= Code: White continues the Spy x Family trend of effortlessly executing lighthearted jokes with an undeniable cuteness, but the story is severely lacking in cohesion. The series' first movie fails to achieve the familial harmony of the TV series, wherein Loid, Yor and Anya were directly affecting one another through their actions. Here, the overreliance on cutaway gags and cameos result in a movie that feels like less than the sum of its parts.

Watching this movie made me realize the importance of each other in a family. The main characters showed their efforts in maintaining the family and also care for each other. I can see how Loyd is really comfortable and truly love his "fake" family when he received the order to stop Operation Strix. The efforts Yor made to be a good mom and wife. Also Anya's love for her parents. I believe they should be able to give us a better animation for a movie like this. Overall this is a very lovable movie and I believe everyone should be able to understand and enjoy ... the movie, even those who has never watched the SpyxFamily anime before. In the beginning the narrator explain the basic information about the Forger family, their jobs, their mission, and what kind of situation they are currently facing. I highly suggest you to watch this with your family or close friends.
