2.5-jigen no Ririsa

A moment of silence for every manga fan who's heard an announcement that a beloved manga of theirs is getting an anime adaptation only to hear that J.C. Staff is the studio adapting it. A truly heart wrenching realization that it's going to be completely sullied beyond recognition.

I'm not typically one to rate things this early on and especially not to write a review on it but I feel obligated to in this case as a big fan of the source material who's watching this abomination of an adaptation. J.C. staff might be the biggest joke of a big name studio to still be ... producing anime in 2024. As if what they did to my believed OPM wasn't enough, they had to ruin another great manga.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, 2.5 dimensional seduction at it's core is pretty similar to the impression you would get reading the plot description and watching the first 3 episodes. An ecchi manga revolving around a hopeless otaku who only finds 2D girls attractive but starts to question this after seeing real life girls cosplay as his favorite characters. The key part of that missing in the anime is 'ecchi'.

The manga is true to the title of 'ecchi'. Uncensored and quite generous with the amount of fan service such as the usual panty shots, revealing clothing, changing scenes, and skimpy cosplay with the occasional full nude panels. The anime however doesn't deserve to be titled as such. Every ecchi scene is completely watered down to the point if I didn't know the source or see the tag, I would assume this was just a regular anime with very light fan service. Every revealing shot is basically completely out of frame or has convenient placement to not see so much as a slip of skin. Each scene meant to be the pinnacle of fan service in the source is watered down to a slight shot of skin and a little moan as if that makes things the same. Even the base design of Lileil's cosplay is completely censored down.

I will give credit where it's due. As far as the regular scenes go, it's a solidly produced show. But for a show tagged with 'ecchi', that alone doesn't cut it.

Being tame and vanilla is fine and I'm sure most people don't mind watching stuff like that. But chances are if you're willingly watching an ecchi anime, you're here for the goods. And I'm here to tell you, they're not here. Do yourself a favor and go read the manga for the real stuff. I've seen Cartoon Network Y-7 shows that are less vanilla than this so-called 'ecchi' anime.

If you're hoping for a cosplay show that lives up to My Dress Up Darling, you will be disappointed. In many ways they are opposites, with MDUD invariably taking the more interesting fork in every road. 2.5D Seduction spends no time on the process of making a costume or improving the related skills, since Ririsa pops up in episode 1 having already made the perfect costume that will capture the heart of anyone who sees it. That's lucky for her because she has no interest in cosplaying as any other characters, so she trots out this costume again and again, while wowing people with it ... again and again. We're occassionally told that she's wearing different costumes for the same character, but they're so close to identical that I couldn't spot any differences. These costumes just pop up fully completed anyway, so it doesn't tell us anything new about Ririsa or her skills. Another major aspect of the show is cardboard protagonist Masamune photographing her, which he does with an expensive camera that Ririsa just happens to already own, so again there's no development arc and no learning. Stuff just happens.

So what does the show spend time on? Mostly it's cosplayers hanging around at cosplay events, silently monologuing to themselves about how they feel about cosplay (including flashbacks to their past cosplay-related traumas, of course). When the show reached a point where an entire episode was just two side characters standing next to each other in a crowd of photographers, silently monologuing to themselves about their cosplay backstories, my eyes glazed over and I dropped the show.

The only reason I'm not rating this show lower is because the early episodes do get some mileage out of the faltering romance aspect of Ririsa cosplaying Masamune's favourite waifu, but that runs out of steam after a while.

2.5-jigen no Ririsa had an interesting premise—a story blending 2D and 3D idol culture with romance. Unfortunately, it fails to capitalize on its unique concept, instead delivering a dull and predictable experience.

The biggest flaw is the writing. The characters feel one-dimensional, with shallow development that makes it hard to care about their relationships. The romance lacks chemistry, and the drama feels forced rather than engaging. The pacing is also inconsistent, dragging in places where it should be building tension.

Visually, the anime is passable but uninspired. The character designs are decent, but the animation quality fluctuates, making certain scenes awkward to watch. The music, which should ... be a highlight in an idol-themed series, is forgettable and doesn’t leave a lasting impact.

Overall, 2.5-jigen no Ririsa is a disappointing watch that doesn’t bring anything new or exciting to the table. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the genre, it’s not worth the time.

Here we go, your much-anticipated ecchi harem!

The MC is obsessed with 2D women but finds himself building a 3D harem of cosplay girls who all inexplicably fall for his lackluster character.

That's essentially the show: the main character has a manga club where he drools over his waifu. Girl #1 walks in, loves to cosplay as his waifu, and the ecchi scenes begin!

The hottest girl in school also happens to have a crush on this "amazing" MC and joins the crew, with more women inevitably to come!

The plot is pretty weak, the art is okay, and the sound is nothing special.

That's really all there is to ... say for this review. It's an okay anime if you're into this sort of thing, but it's not on the same level as "Dress Up My Darling" or other top-tier series. This is one of those animes we'll forget about by next season.

It's rare for me to do something like this, but i feel like i want express my opinion on this anime. When i first discovered this manga i find nothing special along with the anime ( from watching the first 2 episodes ). However putting more time into reading the manga, i've discovered one of the best written, character development, and well drawn scene/character expressions ever. My manga list is small compared to the many animes i've watched, but i usually don't add mangas I've dropped. When i first learned JC Staff is animating this, 2 things came in mind, they could go the ... railgun route and gave a shit and try adapting and animating it or go the index 3, dal 3, and many recent adaption route, rushed to shit or power point ur way through. 2.5 Seduction falls under the power point presentation route, the anime itself is just basically power point slides. The expressions compare to manga, doesn't fit nor capture the amazing dialogue thats being told and it completely ruins the many amazing scenes from the manga. The current arc we had, the one that showcased Nagomi, was completely butchered. In the manga it 100% captured the emotional thoughts and past exp that she went through and how both parties were effected by the current situation, meanwhile in the anime we just get a power point presentation with the dialogue. The only thing great about this adaptation was the dialogue and JC ruined by making the expressions, camera angel, and animating the scenes complete shit. I truly believe this series deserves more notice and eyes on it, but with the way the anime is going, it'll 100% fail to capture the beauty of the summer comikt arc and main male character 1st major character development right after the arc. The ppl that read this and is planning to drop or want to watch this show, pls go show the manga love. This is a very slow paced series the first 20 maybe even 30 chapters will probably won't capture u, or u may feel like its aight, but give it time. I was invested within 40 chapters, and when i finished reading the summer comekit arc as well as the main male characters first major character development arc, its been nothing but banger after banger.
This Series i truly believe is one of the best series, and i do put it above Dress up darling in terms of the cosplay genre.

The plot is so bad and full of flaws. The anime drags out scenes and wastes time and not showing the fan service. The anime also censors so much compared to manga which is targeted to the same audience. So this is waste of time to sit through an episode when manga is around. The art of the fan service is weak and story is not unique. The characters are so dumb for plot convenience. Which anime censors for some reason. I reiterate that manga audience and anime audience is the same, but they still avoided butt shots and other lewd moments the characters happen ... do in the manga and for no reason is not available in the anime.

This is not an anime about a love story or romantic comedy, just an anime that discusses cosplay, if you are looking for an anime that tells a story about romance, a love story you don't need to watch this anime.

In my opinion, I give a score of 1 satisfied for this anime, because it really disappoints me, an anime with an idiot MC who doesn't understand love.

At the beginning of the episode I was quite interested, especially with the fan service that this anime provides, even after the MC was fought over by two girls, I was optimistic that there would be a harem ... story in the story, in fact, they stupidly only discussed cosplay cosplay and cosplay, there was no love story at all, this anime is really stupid, isn't it.

If you are interested in the world of cosplay, you might not agree with the score I gave, but you need to remember, not everyone likes the world of cosplay. They should remove the harem comedy or ecchi genre from the info on this anime, because it will only trap potential viewers of this anime.

Once again, I really do not recommend this anime.

This shows is what happens when you take the source material, and just completely disregard It. 2.5-jigen no Ririsa had so much potential to be like my dress-up darling in the ways that they used nudity and expression to show in the manga how fun and how free cosplaying can be. But instead, they censor the hell out of the anime, and add extra scenes that just didn't need to be there + just take out the literal fun and expression in what made the manga so good in the first place!!! Very disappointed to see one of my favorite manga get such an ... unfaithful adaptation.

I have one thing to say before you guys want to watch it there is going to be a lot of fan service. Its to the point that the story isn't fun to watch anymore and half the time the anime is really just trying to make you horny. plus I feel like this anime is just trying to get you hard or somthing so if you guys don't mind the fan service then watch it but for me I really wanted to like this anime but I coulden't because of the amount of face service this has its to the point I wanted to ... throw my screen out the window everytime they did somthing sexy but if you are going to watch this make sure to close your door and watch this alone

TLDR: It's My Dress-Up Darling part deux except lame.

Yes, I am being hard, but you have so many absolutely amazing shows of the same if not similar theme, to take reference from and you make this robotic mess?! Who is this for? Little boys who want fan service and could not be bothered by the jittery paced poor story and contrived dialog. There is so much to hate here. The concept of suspended belief goes out the windows as they do everything to remind you this show is grasping at straws to keep you entertained.

Not all is bad. While the dialog was "synthetic", the voice ... actors did the best as possible with the material at hand. The animation is decent enough. If you're into side boobs, under boobs, cleavage, ass checks, legs and girls with horns, all while trying to come across as heart-warming, this could be your jam. The romantic plot...generic AF. Put simply this does enough to be watched while cleaning the kitchen. The moment you give it your focus all, appeal is going to be lost, unless the principal held you back a year or two in school.
