Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!

I usually write reviews when I am either super impressed or super disappointed. In the case of 'Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!' it's the former. I guess I should start by saying that I am a huge Isekai fan, mainly due to the another-world fantasy theme. You could say I have watched almost every isekai anime and have read a lot of similarly themed light novels, mangas and manhwas.
The anime starts very strong, at least for me. The character is introduced as quite cunning and cruel (both to himself and others), someone with big ambitions who trained all their life to get stronger, yet only ... to find himself unable to surpass human limitations.
The scenes were pretty brutal, which I enjoy very much. Spending a whole episode to introduce a character in his original world is very uncommon, yet it happened here.
I was so hyped. I thought we would finally get an isekai masterpiece and I expected to observe the main character's struggles, hardships and battles in becoming stronger and surpassing himself. I expected the good scenes and fighting brilliancy I already witnessed. I even hoped for a bit of humour and a bit of romance (even if it would have been harem) to happen. And all of that combined with the awesome animation and music? Ah, that would have been so good!
Enter Episode 2. The character's fighting prowess? Overpowered right off the bat - we don't get to witness how he even got so powerful. The fighting scenes? Dull, repetitive and so tame. The character's cunnings? Non-existent. He is so stupid to the point it's cringe. Oh, did I say cringe? Because the humour brings the meaning to a whole another level. If you ever meet with an older folk who doesn't understand the meaning of 'cringe' just show him some scenes of the main character trying to be 'Background Character A'. No, but for real, wtf is this? Romance? The character is a-sexual and impotent. Ha, I was a fool to even think about it.
But I still hoped. I still hoped this cringe was a little bit of side humour, a little bit of 'creative moment', even.
And I pushed. I pushed this anime to episode 10, where I finally couldn't take it. The repetitive storylines. the awful humour. The monotonous scenes. The fact, that almost all of the plot was cliché - the one that stood out most was Alpha's jumping and falling from above to kill the monster. Cmon, this is an R17+ rated anime. The target audience is not 9-year-olds. What happened to the crowbar fighting scenes? What is this ridiculousness?
I can only call this anime an utter disappointment.
Oh, you are probably wondering why I am giving it a 6 then? Literally because of the first episode, and the music in the following episodes. I can say that the buildup and quality of the themes are superb. I am not educated enough to know who the artist is, but he is a monster. He managed to compose such a masterpiece over THIS anime...
Anyway, don't watch it, it's a waste of time. Even Konosuba is better than this...

Baki if it was bad and if it was an isekai.

Where Baki shines in making fun of every stupid shounen and fighting anime in making the characters bullshitting everything more and more after each episode while all believing in their words like it's absolute truth, here we get an anime where the main character is a chuunibyou and is kind of obviously a parody. The problem reside in the fact that the drama of the situations supposedly being too serious that you can't give a damn about it makes it just like another bad isekai anime.

In the end, it's just another isekai anime for the ... isekai fanbase. It looks almost not like a parody, if nobody told me, I'd have doubt until a name like "mundane mann" or "perv asshat" appears.

For an "absurd humouristic" anime, I didn't laugh once and I couldn't get seriously in the story cuz it's just another badsekai. At least we got the "gotcha" meme from it I guess

I think i might be in the only one that didn't liked this anime......8.29 rating in MAL......Overrated......mc started of as batman wannabe then tried to turn into lelouch (code geass mc) wannabe but couldn't even laced his boot then he just turned into another isekai overpowered mc that thinks like this whole isekai world is just a video game.......majority of villains are girls and old man that are just made of blood balloons......villains should be build up from the start and have some credible threat to mc becoz if there is no pressure/seriousness on mc then action is just bland bullshit.........most of the scenes were ... pretty cringe as well still watched all the episodes becoz i thought it would get better but it didn't......the only thing that made me curious is that new villain introduced that is voiced by kobayashi (dio brando) but in the end even he will be completely dominated by mc without breaking a sweat.

Really tried to give it a shot for those positive reviews talking good about the show, after watching some eps I can totally understand why they like it. I dont like it.

The anime's satire and chuunibyou aspect that so many reviews talks about is almost non existent. The little satire that exists, is there just to try and make the complete lack of a story line something ''funny'' since its ''satire'', the ''chuunibyou'' is a excuse from the author to feel free to lick the MC balls at every chance he gets.

Seriously, its tiring to see everything revolves around the MC being ''the most ... badass, smart, powerful, cool'', to make it worse he is boring, its like the image a 12 year old has of a cool character.

This may have been the most downside of the show for me: The Harem
The Harem was... seriosuly one of the weirdest ones I've ever seen, the ''satire'' bit only made the harem worse, the anime truthfully believes its not a harem isekai - even tought every characters is a cute girl thats on the MC harem, but since this one thinks it is not a harem, it does not care about making girls have personalities, managing the amount of girls on the harem and their feeling, etc. making this the worst Isekai Harem there is. By not admiting it is a isekai harem, its harem gets worse than isekai smartphone for example

the author actually had the ability to write 2 male characters both of which made the MC seems like a real person and do some funny stuff, so I thought there was some hope, but no, they were cast aside, making this a true isekai harem.

To give the anime some point tought, there are some ''good moments'' that might be enough to keep you watching, moments that give characters personality or dept, these are cool, I almost gave a 6 raking because of them, but sadly they are treated almost as non canon, sometimes being completely forgotten about or some ''added dept'' is removed/forgot to show of how ''fucking cool'' the MC is for the 16° time in a row.

In short, the anime explores and thrives on the self-insert aspect, specifically on the self-insert aspect for 14 year olds who never touched a woman and think they're dumb enough to fall in love with anything, plus you have to think ''dark+powerfull = badass'' to not cringe trough the anime

this was so bad the show literally goes no where its so repetitive not only that the mc is so edgy and annoying its hard to sit through the characters have almost no development characters like delta only exist for fanservice all the other shadows are just annoying girls that purely exist for fanservice and give nothing towards the actual plot also the fanservice is actually fucking nuts in the most serious moments that dictate the rivalry between the cult and shadow garden one of the seven shadows are basically fighting naked and it ruins the entirety of the fight this show is only good ... if you don't take it seriously and pay half attention to it if you come into the show knowing its stupid you might find it funny and laugh here and there but if your looking for a show with an actual good story that's interesting to follow don't watch this

This anime is completely useless.
Plot, MC, side characters, harem, fights, animation, you can watch some other anime and find these things but better.

The MC is op and he does nothing during the story and all characters are bad written and so forgottable.

Girls in the harem are random good looking girls without a backstory, just they put them there.

Most of the fights are boring.

There are only two moments good to watch, some humor moments (not all) and the "I am atomic" moments (just for the sound design).

In conclusion it's a waste of time, considering the length of 20 episodes.

there is not much to say about this show. First episode actually shows us something unique, and good. You get captivated, but then at the end, it turns around for the worst.

Every season needs an anime, where the plot is thin, and you can just lean back and relax, because you already know what the fantasy show is about. A strong mc, that can live out every weebs wet dream, of being strong and gets all the girl by looking at them. And even doe the show is far from finished, it is easy to see how it will end for anyone who have watched ... a couple fantasy anime`s the last 10 years.

If you have nothing else to do a day, and are just bored out of your mind, you can give this a watch. It will not releave you of your boredom, but at least you have something to do for a few episodes, or untill you find something that is actually interesting to do.

It's not going to be in anyone's favorites that's for sure. It uses most of the tropes out there, and the all of the plot points are predictable and cliché. It's only saving grace is that it parodies other shows of a similar stature, and it can be funny at times, but its not worth the time. The art is good, like really good, its absolutely wasted on this show, how I wish world trigger was animated like this. The mc is so overpowered there isn't really any fight that you can invest in, as you already know the outcome. In many ways it's similar ... to Iseki cheat magician, and it belongs in the dustbin alongside it.

This show was actually not that bad. However, the way story and characters especially Shadow were written is completely horrible.

There are tons of isekai go the same road, op protagonist who bland in background. But they somewhat applied some kind of logic and reasoning for how or why our protagonist become that way. In Shadow case, he's straight up op in previous life by superhuman level by no real reason. And reincarnated, again got super op by whatever reason. In comparison, "The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat" has the similar approach, but Lugh was well written as a ... previous life veteran assassin, and he uses all his previous experiences and goddess' blessing to become what he is. His family also take part as a steppingstone for his journey. For Shadow, he is like Captain Marvel. Boom.

For Shadow Garden, main organization of protagonist, again what are they really? Most members are just simply do not exist. What is their purpose for real. They are found by childish delusional dream and out of nowhere, ruling the world in shadow.

In conclusion, characters are unlikable. Story is unrelatable.

Indistinguishable from mediocre edgelord garbage. Harem for no reason? Yes. Shadow darkness morally gray chunibyo one-liners and goofy poses? Yes. OP MC playing around and removing all stakes from everything? Yes. Generic magic swordplay high school? Flashing light action with mid animation? Pretending to be weak? Yes to it all. It's a series of bad cliches with no substance.

This show isn't parody (as there is no distance from what it would be parodying), but is a comedy genre-wise, as well as a gory action isekai. However, I wouldn't say it was particularly funny or had good action. I think the target demo for this is ... 10-15 year olds who think they're smart and that Code Geass is the peak of anime. The main character is discount Lelouch in an isekai world with vaguer powers and no plot to support his silly 8th grade syndrome antics. I'd say it's an average seasonal anime, with nothing to distinguish it from all the other C tier isekai action with an edgelord MC.

Seemed promising and has some scenes and ideas that are executed well but is just another cisheteronormative show that paddles ableism, the classic "oh I need a cure so I'm going to rampage and murder" trope, not to be gatekeepey but said character seemed to be functioning fine enough as well nothing terminal or cthulhu-madness-y deserving the cruelty seeking behaviour, as in no reason given aside from "you ill? well, go mad for a cure" which is?

Ableism, no eldritch mind control nor any character background of cruelty before becoming ill etc, just "ill? cruel".

Site requires a longer review, so just adding - sure the world ... and magic building is good plus how it is animated etc, am just really tired from ableism being excused when its no different than hate against any minority really, lgbt folks, dark skinned people, poor people etc.

I have to put in my 2 cents after seeing this anime rated 8.3 on this site. I'm shocked.

Yes, this anime is trying to be a funny deconstruction of the isekai genre that so many glowing reviews have pointed out, and while there are definitely worse anime out there, this one is not one to write home about. I get the impression that it's trying to pull off a Konosuba/Overlord mashup but I just don't think it delivers at all. Deconstructing the isekai genre is not a fresh, new concept; Konosuba and Overlord, as mentioned above, have already done this and set a high ... standard. In my opinion, Eminence in Shadow falls short. Sure, it's entertaining to an extent -- I did finish it -- but if I continue with season 2 when it comes out remains to be seen.

A lot of reviews claim that people who don't think this anime is a masterpiece are taking it too seriously; I would argue that this anime just does not deliver on what it promises. Many of the jokes didn't land for me and it really didn't do anything new if you've seen Overlord or Uncle from Another World. I felt like I was watching a 15-year-old's rendering of "a cool, smart story poking fun at those lame, overly done isekais!"

My recommendation is that if you need to be picky with the anime you watch, skip this one. If you have time you need to kill, go for it. It is absolutely not worthy of 8 stars. I at least got a chuckle with side characters named Po Tato and Mundane Mann.

i dont write reviews but the fact tht the most popular review gives the characters in here a 10/10 bc of the number of "waifus" says everything it needs to about this dumbass anime. lord i need to write more so i will: if ur one of those braindead people who watch anime for the waifus and bc you're deeply unhappy with your current irl life so you need to delude urself into watching anime where you WISH u were the sigma male op protagonist then by all means watch this anime. if ur a normal functioning person who doesn't drool over 2d characters then ... i don't think you'd enjoy this.

Really weird Anime, I feel like there is a lot of lost potential, like focusing on showing more of the protagonist origin and upbringing, I didn't understand the first world he was in part nor the 2nd world part. Wouldn't really recommend unless you're bored. Some funny scenes and good fights but plot didn't make sense at all most of the time and I honestly felt lost throughout the whole series.

Season two should be coming up soon, maybe it's like when they cry and it will start making snore sense after watching more but for now ... it's a sold 4.5/10

Ah the eminence in shadow, A critical stinker that won't stop being talked about around the anime community. Despite it being a hollow mess, Viewers have somehow diluted themselves into thinking it's some "deconstruction" or "Parody" despite the show playing itself completely seriously. It's some of the worst power fantasy garbage out there. The setting is boring, the premise is boring and the characters are just insufferable. It's a show that will have you rolling your eyes and hitting your right arrow key constantly. Its only redeeming qualities are the opening and the animation. However had it been mediocre I would have just given it ... a 5 and moved on, But some scenes in this are so bad that they border on being offensive. I can guarantee you that you will despise the main character. He seems Written to be unlikeable in a cheeky way but they never really explain how he became the maniacal cringe lord he is. There's not a single likable character in the entire cast and the story is an absolute mess. I would love to go into detail if there were any to begin with, Too bad this show is a 20-episode nothing burger.




Also, the icing on the cake is how highly it's rated on this site, It's insane. To give you an idea here is a list of shows that this is rated higher than. Fate Zero, Naruto Shippuden, Kono Suba, Dororo, re-zero, Trigun, AKIRA FFS... Yes, the movie. If you've seen this yourself then you know how BS that is. Also if you do for some reason read this and decide to watch the show afterward then I beg you to stay away from the dub. Cringe is fine in subtitles, In dubbed it's 10x worse.

This anime wasted my time, therefore I shall leave this review as a warning sign for anyone stumbled upon this anime and being fooled into thinking this is a great one ( I just don't understand how people view this as good, its actually mind-boggling. )

Story : 4/10
Premise was good. You got your organization cliche set up, harem cliche, power-fantasy cliche, one-punch man level of power, mind you. There's a problem. The MC can't decide whether it wants to be the strongest being, or the weakest being. It continues bouncing back and forth between him wanting to act weak, but actually hiding his strength, all ... while mYsTeRioUsLY making every single girl that he came in contact with to fall in love with her. I read somewhere that the manga focused more on comedy, which is cool, but the anime definitely is a waste of time. I don't know what they want to do with him. They gotta strap in and focus more on one direction, whether it being funny and dumb, or serious and heart-wrenching.

Music : 6/10
Ain't too bad, it got its moment from time to time, but all of it is more onto the usual BGM stuff, and it fits most of the situations that the story is in.

Artstyle : 5/10
It's mostly your run-of-the-mill artstyle that a lot of anime had, nothing too far from the norm. I do like the 3D effects that they did in some of the scene.

Worth your time?
Comedy is hard to convey in every media. Perhaps something that works in LN or manga, doesn't translate too well into the anime. You can try a few episodes. If it doesn't click, please drop it and use that time to enjoy other animes.

My personal verdict ( If you're still reading )
I came into this anime hearing good things about it. It was fun for the first few episodes, as it tries to set up the premises here and there. But as time goes on, I find that it was using the
*same build-up* ( Problem arises, MC wants to act weak and stay out of the situation, but couldn't help himself coz he wants to prove to people he's the best )
*same struggle* ( other characters finding it hard to deal with the problem presented, not knowing that there's MC that could instantly end it all )
*same conclusion* ( the MC eventually gave in and went all out, destroying everything in sight all to prove that he's aToMic [ the way he delivers this line is cool though ] )
And as of where I dropped it, it was used 4 times throughout the 15 episodes that I watched. Same shit, different problem. What a waste of resources that could've used to write a better story than what they have here.

Perhaps I was expecting an evil lord who is more of an agent of chaotic good, but turns out he was just a chuuni-byou who can't get enough of himself.

I watched this series on a light recommendation from a brother. The series is a mix of" One Punch Man" meets Sword Art Online only without any likeable characters, reasonable character progression or a story worth watching. It baffles me that it has a mal score above 4.

The story is terrible. I was bored throughout, not caring about any of the characters' stories, and wondering when the series would get good.
The art is adequate. It is the only slightly redeeming part of this anime.
Watching this series is like listening to someone tell you about the dream they had last night.

There are people that seem to believe this show is parody, a deconstruction of the ridiculous power fantasies of isekai-genre enjoyers. If that was the authorial intent, then they missed the mark. They missed it by a very, very long way.

This somehow manages to be a deformed mash up of a typical irony-poisoned rom-com and a real isekai offender like overlord. If it is a parody then lacks any sense of humour in its execution, somehow imagining that just being irony-poisoned would carry it through, but, what possible literary objective could you have with an irony-poisoned god who is not crippled by a soul rending ... sense of ennui?

If on the other hand it is not meant to be a parody but rather a pastiche, then it cannot be this severely irony-poisoned. The act of building a shrine to the genre and then rolling your eyes at it is just bad ineffective art.

This show is so bad that it's like an out of body experience, my suspension of disbelief is so not suspended that my very perception of the self has been projected outwards to witness myself witnessing this hot mess.

At first, the opening scenes seemed interesting, a story told narrative style about one typical-HS-president girl with a dark past; and how her life intersected with- the boy who is I suppose the MC- but from her perspective. The slow and plodding way it moved, the dark undertone, was a nice touch. But then in the kidnap scene this show’s hero-
I forgot his name, Edgeward McEdgelord probably, but just call him Kirito for short, drops in and takes on the thugs with: f—-ing crowbars. CROWBARS. And this wasn’t just a typical beat-up-the-baddies fight with some bloody noses and wounded pride- it was an all out ... Mafia hitman style massacre, and I was like WATF?!?
A crowbar descending with a skull-crushing sound is brutal- and once would have obviously done the job; but he smashes the guys head like FIFTEEN TIMES.
Bruh. Think you made yer point.
The story closes solemnly with the image of truck-kun (who also stars in this episode), but then it randomly cuts to a bunch of cute girls with elf ears (one of them is inexplicably a Neko) with Kirito crying out that he wants to DO STUFF and GET STRONGER! And I never felt more confused in my life. But then he says “I’m gonna get stronger!” several more times, and the credits roll- and confusion turned into laughter.
By the time the second episode got started it was clear that a harem was quickly being built around might-as-well-be-Kirito, but then out of nowhere Alexander Hamilton is beating up a girl who’s tied up, and all hell breaks loose!
Just wait til you see the ‘flashback’ scene in episode 3. It’s the most jawdropping unintentionally hilarious thing I’ve ever seen.
Look, I’m sure there are 13 year olds out there who can write brilliant stuff, and somehow there’s some hidden genius buried in here somewhere that I’m just not seeing….
But it’s not fair to judge this show on a numeric scale for being good or bad. Whoever made it clearly is not bothered by such ideas, and those who enjoy stuff like this are not watching it for clever writing or witty social commentary. But I will say that if you really just want to be entertained by trash, there’s even better trash out there. Like Redo of Healer comes to mind- if you just want something with so much edge it cuts your eyeballs as you watch it. This? It’s just kind of silly and not especially interesting and doesn’t make enough sense to hold my attention. After laughing and scratching my head through 3 episodes, I’m kind of done with it.
