Jiang Ziya

Years ago, Jiang Ziya, the head disciple of Jingxu Hall, joined his master in a ravaging war to fight demons and capture the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon. Known to be the first to climb the Stairway to Heaven, he was expected to become the leader of gods.

However, Jiang Ziya's final task to execute the Nine-Tailed soon took a turn for the worse when the demon created an illusion and showed Jiang Ziya an innocent girl trapped inside her. Growing doubtful, he freed the fox spirit to save the girl. As a punishment for his transgression, Jiang Ziya was banished to the North Sea, with his divine power sealed, until he would no longer be plagued by the Nine-Tailed's mirage.

Ten years later, Jiang Ziya dwells in the North Sea alongside his friend Shen Gongbao and his pet Si Bu Xiang. At a bar, Jiang Ziya meets Xiao Jiu—who resembles the girl from the illusion. When he asks her about the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon's bracelet on her ankle, she tells him that the accessory reveals to her a place where black flowers bloom. Conflicted over what to believe, Jiang Ziya accompanies Xiao Jiu to Mount Youdu. Thus, the two begin a formidable journey that might uncover not only the truth Jiang Ziya has been searching for, but also shocking facts about the great war of the past.

I'd been anticipating the release of this movie ever since watching the previous movie by this studio, Nezha (2019). Through Jiang ZIya, they present a more mature and darker toned story, while bringing the Chinese fantasy genre, Xianxia, to life through 3D animation. Although the Xianxia elements of Chinese martial arts, mythology, and Taoism/Buddhism may be more understandable for a Chinese audience, I believe that a foreign audience will be able to enjoy this movie just as well.

The art/animation is definitely the most outstanding aspect of the film. The action scenes are sharp and well choreographed and the character designs are really appealing. So ... many times while watching this movie was I in awe over the visuals. They were really able to depict the otherworldliness of the setting.

Chinese animation has been slowly becoming more relevant and impressive, and Jiang Ziya along with Nezha are a good place to start if you are interested in checking it out. If you want to see something more similar to Japanese anime, i would recommend Mo Dao Zu Shi, which is, at the time of me writing this review getting a Japanese dub and a 3rd season.

not gonna lie, this is pretty decent I think the main reason it is getting such a low rating is mainly that the roots of the story are deep in Chinese culture and the way it has been portrait in this movie doesn't feel right for many of them. but for me as a foreigner who is not familiar with the roots of these legends, it was very enjoyable to watch definitely recommended.
if you are a fan of stories like old greek gods and stories more or less in that type good chance you enjoy this too.
mainly wrote this review because as of writing my ... review this show has a rating of 6/10 and def deserves more

Mixed Feelings

The animation style was awesome it was something to watch from beginning to end.But the rest could use some work after I finished the movie I had to on Wikipedia to get some answers for the ending if a person has to do that it is a bad sign maybe it was just me but really did at times have a hard time understanding you are told the story but with little to no context or background.The pace is also bad things feel out of order at times and some thing in the movie I wondered why is that even brought up.The Chinses anime still ... has a lot to learn but it has something it just needs to be refined and sharpened
