Deception can be scary. Is the world you live in really what you perceive? Do you believe in what you see or see what you believe? What is the truth and what is the lie? Is anyone benefiting from the lies and who is struggling from the truth? If everyone believes in a lie, does the lie become the truth? What happens if what you think is wrong has been the right one all along? Will you switch sides, or will you stay?

Anime that great and not popular enough

Anime with a world setting so unrealistic they make you question reality and/or a story so crazy they turn your head upside down.

I rated all shows regarding "craziness" of setting and story from 1(lowest) to 5(highest).
The higher the 'overall' rating the better the experience.
Every show that has been marked with a * in the 'overall' rating is a personal recommendation.
I also left a few notes regarding watching experience, all spoiler free.
It's hard to find shows that match the criteria so there are a few Anime in here which only partly belong here.

I'm a sucker for shows like this so I'm going to keep this stack updated. If there are any shows that you think are missing in this list or don't belong in this list feel free to message me.

A list of anime that I've seen that I think are good enough to deserve more recognition.

Who doesn't want a strong lead, and a female one at that? I mean, people stereotype A LOT in this day and age, so who doesn't want this type of unique character once in a while? Note: I tried to avoid shoujo romances as they are seen as common tropes, although there are some that I thought were personally good on the list.

These anime fit into either of the following categories:
- Virtual Worlds
- Highly Advanced Futuristic Technology
- AI's (Artificial Intelligence)

Featuring Gantz like anime and everything about monster slayers.

Animes with focus on father-son relationship and older brother-younger brother relationship

These are good recommendation for those looking for something to add on their anime list.

None of these will always make for a bad show, they aren't even necessarily a bad setting.

But even the best of them, may not be as interesting due to the sheer number of times we have seen similar settings play out.

So come with me, and I'll show you some shows or movies that have a one of a kind setting that chances are you have never seen before.

Note: shows like ID:invaded are here because the characters go to many unique settings despite the main main setting not being that special, in this case, the unique stuff are the ID.

This is a list of anime with the sci-fi/fantasy theme of cosmic horror. It commonly features monstrous beings or great leviathans. It's sometimes complimented by biopunk, a sci-fi genre about the use of biotechnology.

Cosmic horror features Lovecraftian themes of eldritch otherworldly influences. They may have control over humanity, or have driven us to near extinction. There is often little hope for a better future. The true nature of the world is commonly hidden and revealed as the story unfolds.


The anime on this list embody this trope to varying degrees. I'll be adding to this list as time goes on.
