Made in Abyss Movie 3: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. It is excellently well put together, and only builds upon the already detailed and meticulously crafted world in which the film inhabits.

STORY
The story of the film is a strong as ever, pushing the characters to new and exciting places, as well as offering the chance for the deeper world building we have come to expect from Made in Abyss. The fleshing out of the world, as well as how we perceive it is to be commended, as well as the ability to ... translate the world of manga into anime for this particular film.

ART
The art and animation of the film is taken to a whole new level than previously seen. The movie improvement and focus on consistent, smooth and flowing movements that dynamically fit within the film in easily a major high point, as well as offering the viewer a much easier time following the goings-on of the film.

The art and drawings are well done, emphasising the important details and aspects of the characters on scene, whilst also allowing the less details in the background be shown and play the small roles that they have in adding to the plot and or world.

SOUND
The music is easily a standout feature, brilliantly composed and scored by Kevin Penkin. Each track adds to the narrative, whether it be building the connection to the characters or world, showing the triumphs and loss, the invulnerability of some and the weakness of others. Music helps define a film, ground the characters and expand the world, and every piece of music Penkin has touched for this film perfectly encapsulates the deep emotions that not only the characters, but we as the audience, feel.

The ending song, FOREVER LOST by Myth & Roid, not only closes the movie in such a perfect tone, it also holds great meaning. The lyrics themselves give the world and characters we just spent time with new and even greater meaning, and I highly recommend you check it out yourselves.

CHARACTERS
Akihito Tsukushi has done an exceeding brilliant job building and incorporating the characters of Made in Abyss into his world. The ability to properly show, build and explore characters is gifted to so few, and I'm glad Akihito Tsukushi has used this ability to display some of the best written characters in this media (bit of an exaggeration, but it's worth the praise).

Bondrewd, one of our latest characters, is so incredibly complex and integrating, I wish the film were longer just for exploring and delving into the depths of his incredibly well-written character and development. He shows insanity in all he does, yet you see the logic behind his actions. Such a character would not be possibly with careful planning and consideration when incorporating him into the story.

Prushka, another new character, is developed to such an extent that the emotional attachment that you feel toward this character is undeniable. To build the connection to a character in such a short window is to be congratulated. Akihito Tsukushi offers the audience the chance to experience a lifetime with a character we just met, and create a connection as deep as the main trio we see in the main series, and for that, thank you.

OVERALL
In all, this film is utterly amazing. I feel as though this film is brilliant in so many different way, allowing for such a perfect review. This film is a masterpiece, and if you are watching Made in Abyss, this is a MUST SEE. Such deep world building, character development, excellent animation quality and beautiful music culminate in the ultimate film, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul.

Oh my God, this film is a direct continuation of the anime and did not disappoint at all. The direction is incredible and has not lost any of its quality. The introduction of new characters was very well executed and all were memorable and unique.

History: 10/10
It remains incredible as in the first season, many questions are answered, although many new ones arise. A fifth layer is super interesting, very well explored and very dangerous, it is finally explained how it is done on a white, or the procedure is insane and strange, but still very surprising, it ... causes an unimaginable break of expectation. The technique that Bondrewd uses to "circumvent" the curse of the abyss is very interesting and makes a lot of sense (although it is cruel).

Art: 8/10
Fluid and consistent animation, the expression lines are good, the character design remains cool, in animated action scenes it really stands out, very well animated and very flashy, for sure.

Sound: 10/10
Damn this soundtrack is very exciting, the sad moments of the film are really improved 300% because of these wonderful soundtracks. It is also worth mentioning the theme song of the film, MYTH & ROID was the perfect choice, the music is perfect and beautiful.

Character: 10/10
The characters continue their journey in the Abyss and in this film they are developed based on the losses that occur in the film, the development of Nanachi in this film was something very beautiful, seeing her refuse to hold Bondrewd's hand was enough to make me shed some tears. And we arrived at Bondrewd, who is apparently the ''villain'' of this arc, but has many ways of looking at this character, he is still surrounded by mysteries, but some of them are answered throughout the film. Apparently he is ''immortal'', thanks to a relic he found, and with that he spent several years doing several experiments with children to see which one could acquire the "abyss blessing". Although this is extremely wrong, he is still allowed to do these things, why this is because of the super positive results he gets in each of these experiments, a character who is capable of doing everything (no matter how cruel) to unravel the mysteries of the abyss.

Enjoyment: 10/10
Impossible to feel bored watching this work, the whole movie and very busy, the drama and suspense occur very well and hold the attention of those who are watching.

Overall: 10/10! Let's wait for the 2nd season!

This movie is good, like REALLY GOOD.

I'll preface this by saying that I am in love with the Made in Abyss Series, This movie is gruesome and not in a generic way. It has everything you would want in a Made in Abyss movie: gore, action and sweet sweet character development All while having great animation to provide a great sense of Immersion.

Bondrewd, the main antagonist is the true definition of all is fair in love and war, he does whatever he wants to achieve his goal. This way of thinking shows us in the movie just how far he'll go in order to ... achieve what he wants to achieve; and trust me, he goes pretty far.

Due to Bondrewd being the way he is, there are some really messed up scenes that prove yet again to be quite controversial among the western audience, This is NOT a downside. I believe it just further reinforces how truly evil Bondrewd is.

In summary, If you are a fan of good story-telling, WATCH THIS MOVIE.

It takes place between seasons 1 and 2 and chronicles the expedition of three young adventurers: Riko, an orphan; Reg, a half-robot boy; and Nanachi, a human-rabbit hybrid, as they journey into the fifth layer of the Abyss. This world is full of wonders but also a horror show of terrors. The Abyss is home to a variety of strange creatures, plant life, and other wonders, many of which are deadly predators. Along the way, our heroes discover magical artifacts left behind by an enigmatic civilization, leading to bizarre science-fiction plot lines with a thick slice of demented horror.

The movie is unsuitable for the faint ... of heart, featuring plenty of battle, action sequences, and gore. The horror is primarily focused on young children, which can be even more disturbing. The plot revolves around a form of magical mumbo-jumbo that is unique to this universe. The Curse prevents humans from ascending out of the pit, and any upward movement causes horrific mutations caused by an invisible force field. Bondrewd, a monstrous "White Whistle," conducts inhumane experiments on Mitty and Nanachi. With an overly amenable personality, Bondrewd is not to be trusted. As events unfold, we see his true evil intent hidden behind his facade.

The movie has a lot going on that can be confusing and not well-explained. However, the audience naturally accepts that this universe is completely alien, and the complex technical details may be difficult to understand. The film is an intense, emotionally charged ride that can leave you feeling exhilarated. It is a unique and bewildering experience that is worth seeing while you have the chance.

A great conclusion to season 1 of the anime(even though this is marked as a sequel)

In my review of season 1 I gave it a 7 due to a few issues, but I feel a lot of that was corrected in this movie as they used the season 1 as an introductory of sorts.

Animation 9/10
Animation is crisp and fluid following up on a strong showing in season 1

Probably the best aspect of the series is the music. It gives Horizon Zero Dawn vibes at times and elevates scenes that might be 'good' into 'great'

In anime these days, a lot of villains are given backstory for you to empathize with them and none are 'truly' evil. The villain in this one has no redeeming qualities though and is just straight up evil narcissism. So you can hate him totally and feel no regrets, which I enjoyed
Female main lead continues to be the weak link in terms of characters but male lead stepped up a bit from first season in terms of interest and secondary female lead is a great character

Story 9/10 (Although as a standalone there wouldn't be much sense to it)
Definitely does not stand up as an individual piece as it's a conclusion in terms of overall story. If you did not watch the first season you would be totally lost, but considering its purpose IS to be that conclusion, I've given the rating as such

"Why is this just so fucking good?"
These are the words I find myself uttering after finishing the movie. When I think about it, I find it surreal that I experienced such a great film it's unbelievable.

The music is absolutely perfect. In literally every scene, the music fits it so damn well! Not to mention, the ridiculously genius sound design brings you into the abyss. In most movies, the music merely acts as a supporting role to enhance a scene. In dawn of the deep soul however, the music is a core part of the narrative, it tells a story. Many people, including me, underestimate ... the significance of music in films but watching Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul made me realize just how much music can add to it.
Kevin Penkin is an absolute genius.

The art is just stunning, every scene in the movie is eye candy.
The animation is beautiful, tho some action scenes could be better but this is just nitpicking at this point.

The character portrayals are immaculate. Bondrewd's characterization and presentation can only be described as flawless. Unfortunately, due to minor pacing issues Prushka's character isn't as developed which is a real shame.

Just watch it. Its the best piece of media I have every consumed and you won't regret it at all.

I'm by no means a prolific or above-average writer, but I will write a small response to the people who just wrote reviews to shit on this good anime.
If you've watched made in abyss, you know why you're here for one of the best world-building in anime and manga (I didn't say the best to calm down) for character development and amazing art. This anime isn't for the weak of heart but why would you have the audacity to write a review for a movie in a series that's in the middle of the series when you don't like the series itself, it seems ... that the people that don't like fictional kids getting hurt would rather induce masochism on themselves rather than to turn the anime off or just not watch it. Overall very good anime great at everything it does but does not warrant a masterpiece title and this is also my subjective outlook of the movie, if you like mystery and horror-esq stuff then this is a great movie.

This movie is actually amazing. After finishing the first season of Made In Abyss, I was surprised to see the next arc would be done in movie form, which turned me off a little, but the show was so good I had to watch this. To my delight, this movie was even more than I could have hoped for.

The story continues in a natural way and subverts expectations without being jarring, so without spoiling, the turns and foreshadowing are done excellently and together with a great plot-line in general it makes for a great story.

You already know how good the sound is if you've ... heard of made in abyss.

This movie definitely delivered on beautiful ambience and scenery but it wasn't the most outstanding element. Regardless it was better than most things you'll see.

The characters grow naturally and in meaningful ways.

10/10 Enjoyed it greatly.

TL;DR: Amazing worldbuilding, great music and cool designs that are brought down by creepy, unnecessary sexual overtones in scenes featuring children, as well as a character that fails to become engaging to such a degree that they have to shove a 10-minute flashback down our throats during the climax of the movie to force us to give a crap about her in the slightest.

Spoilers ahead.

The story forgets that Nanachi was tortured by Bondrewd after the first act, and her arc never gets a satisfactory conclusion. Worse than that, it seems like she is suddenly perfectly ok with letting Bondrewd continue to torture children once they ... defeat him. The abused/abuser dynamic looked promising at first, but Nanachi doesnt' really get closure and the movie oddly tries to make the villain likeable at the last second, right after we're shown what he did to Prushka. This bothered me a lot, because I was honestly hoping for her to deliver the final blow and end his reign of terror once and for all... only for them to come up with a lazy excuse as to why they don't just destroy him.

The torture porn becomes too distracting as well. The violence in the anime served a purpose for the most part, but in this it just seems like they torture the main characters for shock value. Hell, they even introduced Prushka, a character who exists exclusively to make the audience feel bad, and who gets removed from the story too quickly for the audience to really care about her. Worst of all is the fact that most of her screentime is spent on flashbacks, so rather than seeing her slowly grow friendly towards the gang she just becomes their super best friend immediately after meeting them.

And don't even get me started on the weird sexual stuff. This movie throws an amazing fight scene with an insane twist at you, then immediately follows it up with a sequence of Prushka suggesting her father has sex with her. I understand that this is based on a manga (which I refuse to read) but if they cut out most of the pedobait from the anime I don't know what stopped them from cutting out this kind of uncomfortable scenes that completely break the immersion because they remind you they're only there so the author can jerk off. It's so distracting, in fact, that I can't stop thinking about it whenever something mildly suggestive happens on screen, because I'm constantly wondering if it's supposed to be sexual in nature, which breaks my immersion immediately.

On the flip side, the animation and character designs are top-notch, and Bondrewd is an amazing villain with a clever and surprising power set that completely subverts much of what the audience thought about him, similarly to Ouzen. There are a few story beats that are really, really interesting, and while the pacing isn't perfect it's not the worst thing in the world either. Perhaps if they cut the pedo crap out of the movie there would be more time for character development.

Oh, and the music is insane. Combined with how great the fight scenes are, this movie shows it can have very compelling action. It's a shame immediately after one of the best fight scenes I've seen for a while it immediately cuts to two kids talking about an adult's penis.

Considerably worse than season 1. Certain scenes make me deeply uncomfortable for all the wrong reasons.

Quick Thought:
Very enjoyable movie; it was nice to get a look at the full trio in action.

Story:
This movie covers the group's stay with Bondrewd as they prepare for the next layer of the abyss. This means more insight into Nanachi's past, as well a new character Prushka (Bondrewd's daughter). The content is what you'd expect out of MiA: new areas and creatures, more secret's revealed about the abyss, and more of Bondrewd's gut-wrenching experiments. The few comedic moments were awkward as usual, but everything else was executed pretty well. Ending was good; it concludes this arc nicely while also building hype for the next season.

Character:
I ... liked Bondrewd's development overall. Some of it (physically) seemed a bit sudden/forced, but it was cool see more context behind his twisted mind. Prushka kind of got the short end of the stick though. Her backstory was heart-wrenching, interactions with the trio were sweet, but it sucks that she's basically just a plot device.

Enjoyment:
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and I think anyone else who has liked MiA up to this point will enjoy it as well.

Oh Boy. The Bondrewd arc for Made in Abyss. After i finished the original series, i couldn't help myself, but to read the manga, and this movie certainly lives up to the Manga arc. A huge portion of the Manga community will say that it's potentially the best arc for the entire series so far, and that may be true...

Just not for me.

If you don't like spoilers, here is your warning. This review has A LOT OF THEM.

Now, where were we?
...
Why the hell do they keep circumventing the most unique part of the story, that being the curse of the abyss? Oh, Meinya can casually make you ignore the curse. Oh, Bondrewd straight up just doesn't care. And half the time Riko manages to get to places and heights that she has NO BUSINESS IN. As an example, Riko and squad escape from Bondrewd's dungeon, and for some insane way, manages to look down at it, from what looks like several hundred feet in the air. HOW? I don't freaking know. Doesn't look like the anime itself knows either.

This is why i can't with a good conscience give this anime a 10/10. Trying to circumvent the greatest part of your story, for almost no freaking reason seems absurd to me.

Where were we?

Story: 8

Except for the madness i provided earlier, the rest of the story is excellent. Even though the movie is only about a hundred minutes long, it still manages to tell a whole lot about the white whistles, the entrance to the sixth layer, the madness of the white whistles and more about the backstory of everyone's favorite Nanachi. The only other grasp i have, is that we don't really get to see a lot about what the fifth layer has to offer. Reportedly, it's the widest (not deepest) layer of them all, and we barely get to see anything, but Bondrewd dungeon, and the things just outside of it.

Art: 8
The art is... Fine. It's a slight upgrade from the original series, which is to be expected, given the larger budget. Some scenes are really cool, including the fight scenes and the more abstract scenes, but it never felt extraordinary to me.

Sound: 10
Look, i love Hanezeve. You love Hanezeve. It's a great and emotional song? not exactly sure you can call it a song, as much as a melody as none of the words mean anything, but this movie also has Hanezeve. Yay.

Character: 9
The weakest part of the original series, was, in my opinion, the characters. They're by no means bad, (except Riko until the later episodes, grrrr.) And she's less annoying in the movie. Yay. Nanachi is as always great, and Prushka, one of the newcomers is... Fine. I guess. Bondrewd, the big villain, however, is an amazing villain, that i really didn't have it in me to hate. He does some absolutely despicable things, but the way he's honest and calming about everything just makes him so... likable. Amazing character overall.

Enjoyment: 9
The movie was great overall. I liked the original series better, but that series is one of my favorites of all time. The part about circumventing the curse really bothered me, and made it so i couldn't exactly completely enjoy the movie.

If you liked the original series of Made in Abyss, go watch it. You probably won't be dissapointed. I doubt the circumvention of the curse will bother you as much as it did me, and you really don't want to miss the masterpiece of a villain that is Bondrewd.
And the movie has Hanezeve. Did i mention that? I did. You love it, i love it. Everyone loves it. It really makes every sad moment feel that much more tragic.

not as good as the anime series, or the manga covering the same arc.

It was fine, there was a lot of melodrama, and a few more moments of crying by riko and nanachi and reg than I would've liked or really cared enough to handle. The story wasn't great or that interesting, or it's expansion to the lore and mystery of the abyss that relevant.

Story:
It really feels like its own standalone story, all character interests and motivations really are defined on their own in this movie, which is good for being standalone as it is. But it doesnt really cause enough reason for the ... characters to be acting the ways they are.

Nanachi's relationship with bonedrewd is very strange. And what she even wanted out of this entire thing seemed very random and prone to change and hard to sympathize with because of that, despite how emotionally clear it felt her stance should've been on him and what she was doing in his base.

There are scenes that are just not at all relevant to the main arc of this movie other than to give us more time with the characters, like the entire 20 minutes spent getting to the base.

The story is ok. But things kind of just happen, and there aren't many, i mean there are surprises, but there isn't really much of any reason to think that things need to happen a certain way, and when they do, when characters decide on certain things, it more like watching things that might happen occur than watching a story play out. If that makes sense. 7


Characters:
The characters were good, even if their actual purposes in the story felt a bit too -my purpose is to help my friends, and my friends purpose is to help me, and somewhere along this chain we figure out what we're doing-. And although some great characters are left out of the scope of the movie, -ozen, malurik-, the ones they've been replaced with -bonedrewd, prushka- are interesting and fun to look into the lives and relationships of. an 8 for that.


Art:
The scenery of the abyss is very cool to look at. Every new level a fantasy painting with a world attached to it. Just what the story requires to show, to draw, and how interesting it almost always is, is definetly one of the best parts of made in abyss.
But spending most of their time in barren snow fields, darkness, and a factory, sort of limits those things that are cool and unique to see, but there are still the cool moments of hyperviolence.
The fighting is a little unspecific, and there's not much interest in it when it's composed of two things flying around and firing lasers back at each other with no guidelines for the actual space of the environment.
But overall, the art is good, same as the original anime. Kinema citrus is fine. And Nancachi is still the cutest furry in existance. 8.


Enjoyment:
It was a little bit of a slog to get through overall. Its a 7. it really was just fine. An ok wednesday night spent in quarantine.


Overall it was a 8, i gave the original anime a 10, so this is maybe a bit too harsh considering all the similarities of characters, and that this could very believably been the next arc of the anime if split up into 5 episodes. But yea, an 8, maybe a 7 if it doesnt end up being memorable.

Simply an extra episode in Made In Abyss' continued tonal confusion. Nothing particularly worthy of a film, as it has been copied almost verbatim from the manga. I'd describe it as a troublingly average watch, at best.

The writing for this arc is decent, but did it deserve a separate movie? I'd say no; Bondrewd is a cool (- the boring design), although somewhat generic villain, but he holds little significance in the overall story of MIA. He also has several flaws, including that we never get to see any hesitation or remorse in his actions, partly due to his mask. He's more of an ... universally unfeeling psychopath than the morally deep antichrist the show wants to present him as. The story itself is awkwardly paced and Prushka feels like a budget version of the previous season's star (Nanachi).

The art and sound continue this trend of unspectacularity. The production simply feels like another episode in the first season, which is what this really should have been. The art, in particular, is made necessarily boring by the bleak and flat setting, and does not attempt to make up for this with anything adventurous which deviates from the manga's panel choices.

Overall, this just feels like the studio stumbled across an arc of the story just barely self-complete enough to pull a coherent movie out of it, but not much else is done to make it worth the watch. It also suffers from the same problem I pointed out in my review for season 1: it consistently stands in the shadow of the opening episodes, leaving all central questions unanswered and failing to live up to the magic of the almighty Abyss that they want us to believe.

Don't get me wrong; this film is decent as an extra episode in the first season of MIA, but don't expect it to blow you out of the park as anime movies have done in the past. It's almost like the animators couldn't figure out where to cut episodes in this arc and stitched them all together instead. So, if you want to keep watching Made in Abyss after season 1, by all means, go at it.

If you're reading reviews for movie 3, you've seen season 1. Season 1 progressively got dark and disturbing whereas this movie has disgusting things quite often. People won't recommend this anime for that exact reason, the story doesn't give any of the young characters plot armor and they witness depraved acts that nobody should witness.
Many have said this series does not hold any punches and they UNDERexaggerate, one must be ready for that. This movie continues the story of Riko, Reg, and Nanichi going into the 5th layer so unlike the first 2 movies, this is important to watch and they meet ... the character Bondrewd who is an antivillain which aren't used that much in media. It's very neat, he's a dad with so much love to give! But, yeah, Ozen was on to something when she warned them about him.

"Made in Abyss" certainly disappointed me with its first season, I had high expectations due to the good comments about it, I saw the movie not expecting much and frankly it surprised me.

This film continues the plot (adapting volumes four and five) with the "Idofront" arc, in my honest opinion, being the best arc of the original manga.

Something that catches my attention about “Made in Abyss” is that it has many similarities with the story of Full Metal Alchemist, and in the best possible way.

In “Dawn of the Deep Soul”, for example, everything related to its mythology, the experimentation with chimeras and the fact that ... certain artifacts require human lives to create reminds me a lot of the magical world of Ed and Al.

This is a very good film, although it is worth clarifying that only those who have seen the previous film will be able to enjoy it. The interesting thing about this psychological horror is that the real villain is the Abyss itself, and not necessarily the monsters created by it (who are victims too).

That said, Bondrewd is a tremendous antagonist who stands out for the complexity that the character acquires. Despite the terrible things he did, one can understand his philosophy of life and understand the love he feels for his daughter.

The story ticks all the boxes. The animation is beautiful, the action is intense and the body-horror moments are super successful. The conflict surprises and excites, perhaps even making you tear up a little. What is most enjoyable is that feeling of not knowing what is going to happen next.

Above all, the film does push “Made in Abyss” forward… and it does it very well. All the characters involved move through an emotional arc and change by the end. Generally, movies based on anime tend to tell independent stories, but here it's all canon.

I dare say that it is the best that the Made in Abyss "franchise" has come out with. This story arc presents the detailed and graphic violence, without moral limits, that already characterizes the series. Fantasy, adventure and horror at its best.

Considering the first season of Made in Abyss, my expectations were accordingly high for the sequel.
Well, my expectations were positively met if not exceeded.

Since I like to keep my reviews as short as possible, and want to encourage the reader to see the work for themselves, I'll shall begin with presenting my humble opinion on this piece of media now.

The story follows the first season directly, the setting is the fifth deep layer in which they meet the antagonist "Bondrewd", there are complications and difficulties, but the goal is to get to the sixth deep layer, of course this will not be an easy ... task to do.
In a nutshell this is story. But the way its executed is what makes it special. Its emotional, rational and thought provoking. Philosophical questions are getting setupped and the human nature and way of thinking are getting approached/discussed.

Its really a thing to see for yourself, the general base plot of the movie is not something to complex, its a journey, an obstacle, and an antagonist that is there to be defeated. But as I said earlier, the execution of the story, the narrative perspective, characters, and even music/art are factors which making this movie really top tier.

To be more specific, ill start with the artstyle of the movie. Its vibrant, and really fitting towards the whole atmosphere of made in abyss, it can be dark, colorful, disturbing and beautiful at the same time. The character design is really unique in its own way, childs are getting portrayed overly innocent but I think that plays a part of made in abyss and is not a decision without any intention behind it.

The Osts and the theme song " 「MYTH & ROID - Forever Lost」 " are Outstanding to me 10/10, forever lost is probably the best Anime Movie theme song I ever heard, this is a huge award, because I can humbly say that I really like listening to Japanese Music, and I already listened to a lot of osts, themes, and just songs, in general. Myth Roid nailed with that theme, the lyrics and the whole vibe of the song are a key element to the movie, in my opinion, the lyrics is precisely describing the whole intention behind the movie and its motives, sacrifice to reach something bigger, the loss of something precious, the burden that comes within trying to satisfy your inquisitiveness/ or reaching your personal goal/dream, and being faithful. To be honest please just do me a favor and listen to this beautiful theme, it can describe the whole movie and premise of it, in a way deeper meaning any written words can do it. My favorite quote from the song is " the sadness never disappears it just becomes a part of us " which is really a maxim in this movie.

As you can see my interpretation has a high focus on the music because its just so beautiful and outstanding. Musically, this film is a true masterpiece.


The characters are neither one dimensional nor outstanding, expect a few exceptions. Reg and Riko just haven't reached their peak yet, their were thrown in various situation and have shown persistent character, and certain traits, which makes them authentic, but I think they are still missing backstory and characterization elements in my book, which I'm hoping we will get as the story progresses, that's why I dont see this as a massive contra aspect.

Nanachi and Bondrewd on the other hand are already massively outstanding characters, their principles, way of thinking, and way of expressing themselves are superior to Reg and Rikos in my opinion. Nanachis backstory and her way of sustaining it, is what makes her so special, her caring and lovely side, her shy side, her sadness, the joy she is experiencing while being on this journey, the way she accepted bondrewds twisted self, Nanachi is truly a top tier characters, analysing her in depth would go beyond the scope though.

Bondrewd is a man that lives for his ideals, he lost his humanity bit by bit, his goal is to advance science, to explore and truly understand the Abyss, to leave his successes to posterity, to realise himself, by any means necessary, his moral concepts subordinated to science and progress, still he remains calm, and friendly yet capable of doing grotesque things way above a sane persons imagination, he truly is a twisted character, im really sorry for only touching the surface of his character, but analysing him is truly a task for itself, and would require a lot of time and references, but I think you get why he is a S+ tier Antagonist easily.

Like all things the movie also comes with little flaws, the extremly fast pacing can be overwhelming and requires high concentration, so dont watch the movies as a secondary task or something like that (thats a subjective flaw though) I personally like fast pacing because it can obviously allow you to perceive more information in a shorter time if you can keep up.

The overall experience of this movie is truly a thing you need to experience for yourself, I wanna finally end my review with giving you this beautiful passage of the movies main theme.

Ahhhhh finally this anime has a continuation. I've been waiting for several years when I finished the first season that night. The night where I found an anime that is become number one in my heart and will always be. Maybe until this anime ends.

This anime gives the audience its fantastic backsound and graphics, again. The music really adapts to the heart-wrenching scenes in this anime. And i really really love those soundtrack they got.

When watching this anime, I feel goosebumps about the atmosphere given. When the typical soundtrack started, immediately my whole body got goosebumps and felt excited. The story make me really enjoy ... this anime. They really did a fantastic job arrange this anime story. Sometimes I get shocked that makes my mouth drop open, sometimes I almost cry (fortunately it didn't happen), especially in the really touching part at the end of this movie.

My words may not be enough to conclude the amazingness of this anime. If only there was a rate of 20, I would be happy to rate it that much. Can't wait the next season.

Quite possibly one of the greatest anime arcs ever made, Dawn of the Deep Soul is almost perfect in every way possible. There are a few things I want to point out that could have been done differently and maybe be improved upon a bit, but other than that I'll be mostly gushing about one of my favorite anime ever.

Story 10/10: The author of this Manga said he draws a lot of his inspiration from Lovecraftian style horror and especially Dark Souls, and it's incredibly obvious here that the best aspects of both were merged to create this beautifully grotesque abomination. Perfection might not exist, ... maybe it's only in the pursuit of it that we can briefly peek in on it. However, the setting in Made in Abyss, the setting is perfect, if not the next closest thing a creator can achieve to such a momentous milestone.

The story itself is pretty straight forward, our main trio is on a quest to dive deeper into the abyss, conquer the fifth layer, and pass the absolute boundary. Ends on a tiny bit of a cliffhanger, with some intentionally unanswered questions to keep an air of mystery about the setting and some of the characters, but is all around a phenomenal story.

Art 10/10: Just type Made in Abyss wallpapers into google and go to images, you'll see what I mean. This movie completely hits it out of the park in the visuals department, especially towards the end of the film, and really does justice to adapting the manga panels insane level of artistic detail. A big chunk of the movie is spent in the 5th layer, the Sea of Corpses, which is pretty dark, drab, and gloomy. I preferred the 4th layers vast array of color overload but the art is still expertly done and deserve all of the visual awards a show could ever get.

Sound 10/10: Fits the movie perfectly, literally nothing to complain about here. It's moving, it's beautiful, and it's breathtakingly gorgeous.

Character 9/10: The only category that I wouldn't give a 10, I feel like no one would take this review seriously if that's all I handed out anyways.

Riko, Reg, and Nanachi do fine as a main cast, they aren't outstanding by means, but I like them and think the way they are is a necessity to tell the story the way the author is trying to tell it. Riko is a bit of a Mary Sue, Reg has to do everything for everyone because everyone else in his party is incompetent, and Nanachi has some major daddy issues with Bondrewd she has to work out with him.

The movie adds two important characters to the mix, Bondrewd and his adopted daughter Prushka. Without spoiling anything big, Prushka's role in the story felt a tiny bit rushed and a little all over the place with her character arc although still pretty satisfying, but Bondrewd, holy shit Bondrewd was so amazing.

I really REALLY don't want to spoil anything, just know that Bonedrewd's role is nearly perfect to the story in every way possible.

Enjoyment 10/10: I can't think of any error in this film so egregious that it would hamper anyone's enjoyment. Definitely peaks right before the finale in a grandiose action sequence that can only be described as animation creative mode. I felt like if I blinked I was going to miss hundreds of hours of animation, and I couldn't have any detail of this masterpiece go unviewed.

Overall 10/10: The definition of a masterpiece, the most convicted I've ever felt in giving out a true 10 out of 10

This was literally peak fiction. If you like the made in abyss series then you will love this movie. Even if you aren't a fan of the series like I was, this will change your life. The emotions I felt through this anime were insane. I watched the anime and then this and was not disappointed. Music is some of the best I've heard in anime. It picks you up and drops you down. The characters were relatable and made sense, especially the villain. He does this evil, cynical things but is somewhat relatable. He is doing things because he wants to explore everything that ... their world has to offer, even if by the worst means.
And every time he spoke I hated him but he was right. He is how every villain should be and should try to be.
I recommend everyone please give this anime a chance, it will not be a waste of time.

Made in abyss movie is the sequel of the first season of the series with the same name and it was done right .Let's start the review spoilers .
The story starts directly from the point the series finished where Riko,Reg and Nanachi travel together in order to reach at the bottom of the abyss but while they reach to the sixth layer they meet a big surprise.The plot of the movie is not different from the series it has the same characteristics which made the series great but while the series had a lot of calm momments this movie is full of dark ... momments even in the calm moments you can feel that something is wrong or something bad is going to happen and that's great it knows how to keep your interest.Now the only difference from the series is the pacing it's faster than this of the series which is understandable since it's a movie but still even with the limited time they did a great movie.The art is great even greater from the series something which is normal since it's a movie the studio had a bigger budget but they really put effort and they give it all every scence in the movie fits perfect with mood and the pacing last but not least the battles were spectacular especially the last one is blessing for the eyes.The sound is also great the ending song is beutifull and it fits perfect with the movie.The voice acting is great and the voice actors used their voices perfect for each scence.And now the greatest part of the movie the characters.Now I have to say that the movie focuss more on Nanachi and it gives him/her a huge development like the relationship he/she has with Bondrewd and etc.And now let's talk about the antagonist of the movie the Bondrewd also one of the greatest characters in anime for me.While we learn about him a bit from the anime where he was shown as a heartless scientist with zero care about human life there we are watching a complex character which we can't call him directly a villain yeah he did experiments on children which is something inhumane and horrible you can see that he cares about these children since after so many years he remembered the names and the dreams all of them also after the final battle we are watching that he really cared for Nanachi last but not least we can feel the sadness in his voice after he sacrifice his daughter which shows that he really loved her and cared for her also Prushka was great we met a character only for less than two hours and learn what she feels about her dad which are her dreams and to conclude you cared for her and you learn about her even if she wasn't present.Riko and Reg also had good development.To conclude the movie was great in all aspects it wasn't just a sequel but a masterpiece which followed perfectly it's prequel and it will fill you with a lot feelings all in all a great movie which follows a great series.9/10
