Welcome to Disappointment and Missed Opportunities, the anime. I was going to try to be unbiased with this review, but fuck it. [Possible spoilers ahead]

I really wanted to love this one, I did. And now I'm left frustrated with what could've and should've been. This anime pissed me off so bad that it actually drove me to write a review expressing my immeasurable disgust with how this series was handled. I've never given a review before by the way. That's just how bad this one bothered me.

So anywho, I found out about this one through the doujinshi by Sekiya Asami (don't judge me), looked up ... the OP and decided to give it a go. I noticed some pretty goofy animation at first but brushed it off, as I'm quite indifferent to how something looks, and more about how it makes me feel. And for a good while, I was really enjoying it. Only, the animation, later on, got really bad. And I mean REALLY bad. One that stood out to me in particular, was a scene with Asuha banging her head against a computer chair. It was like three frames on repeat for like, 10-15 seconds straight. Not even joking. It was so jarring that I cringed. Other examples include fight scenes where you can clearly hear things going on, but nobody is to be seen. Screen turning white, freeze frames..... I could go on, but I'm sure you get the gist already with other reviews.

The story had potential, but everything felt too rushed and as a result, wasn't given a fighting chance to stand out. One of the things I was looking forward to the most was the worldbuilding, and sadly, there is little to nothing to find in that area.

As for characters, they seemed to be pretty generic at first, but as time went on I LOVED the interactions between them (some more than others), and it left me craving more and more when it came to learning more about all of them (which you kinda don't). The ones that stood out to me were Asuha and Kasumi Chigusa, Maihime Tenkawa. The other three, Canaria, Ichiya, and Hotaru, felt too bland and predictable.

The characters were really lacking in the backstory department, but seeing as there are light novels that work as a prequel to this anime, perhaps they lie there. This is the part of the series that I believe had the most potential to be something great, but alas, was just another poorly executed area. I really enjoyed the Chigusa siblings and was bummed to not see more from them. It feels like Ichiya and Canaria really got the short end of the stick, and were absent for most of the show.

I thoroughly enjoyed the music. Some tracks were played a bit too much for my liking though.

To sum all of this up, it's a damn shame that this anime failed. It could have been so much better, if only it were in more delicate hands. Perhaps if it were more focused on the characters and their everyday lives, extended the season by 12 episodes, the world expanded on and explained, and for god's sake, better animation, this series could've been the next big thing.

I would love to see this series given another try in the future, but I won't hold my breath.

Qualidea Code has given me a new perspective on cliche anime once.However,due to poor presentation in Qualidea Code,I don't have much enjoyment in this anime,therefore I tried to understand the plot and put my standard and expectation lower,lower and lower...

When things come to an end,since my expectation is low enough,I don't have any feelings after watching Qualidea Code.It feels like Qualidea Code doesn't even exist...

Story(3/10)(35%)

For the story part,since this anime makes a relatively big change in the middle,so I decided to separate into parts.

[First Impression]

The ideas in Qualidea code aren't refreshing and new.The story is based on a bunch of human characters fighting against alien ... creatures "unknowns".Most popular anime or movie series,like world trigger or other sci-fi animes or movies have already used such settings so why we are still seeing them in this anime?I won't say cliche is a bad thing but have they at least try to make something new?About the plot,The story is based on human characters doing different missions,that's it,it's just too simple that I cannot further elaborate.

[Episodes]
[Part1:Beginning]

You wouldn't believe that Qualidea Code will serve us unnecessary fanservice and boring arguments in the very beginning of this anime.In the first 2.5 episodes,most of the time,there're just meaningless arguments among characters and a swimming suit episode,while the introduction for the story and characters are just a little.I wouldn't say it's bad for fanservice and arguments but the amount of arguments are just too much for the beginning of the episodes and the fanservice should put in a proper place,rather than put it at the start.

[Part2:episodes in the middle]

In general,not very good.The plot seems to go nowhere while rushing at the same time,they tries to move on the story without any explainations on its cliffhangers and its hard to catch up the storyline.You may feel confused when watching but at least you'll feel glad that the plot is finally started to move.

[Part3:Episodes at the end]

In the later episodes,it starts to become more interesting.The mysteries are started to solving,all the potholes are started to be filled.Youll have a totally different perspective on this anime and felt excited.At this moment,you'll finally find the true identity in Qualidea Code.

However,the plot is still rather confusing to me,since they explained the terms of "code","cold factory" , "the world setting" etc. in a relatively rough and fast way.Even though there're many complex concepts they had to talk into the story,they should use longer length of episodes to explain them but not in a rush,ensure that there's only one idea is in one episode and well-connected ideas between episodes.

At the end,when things never being explained well,your confused feeling are still there.Even though how the ending is,it feels like the ending is rushed,bizarre and empty,rather than disappointment.

[Individual Aspects in the this anime]

[Part1:Action]

So did they have exciting plot in Qualidea Code?No,definitely no.The actions are definitely the weakest part of the whole anime because either the characters are too strong or too weak and its not thrilling at all.With poor animation in this anime,it just makes the actions unbearable to watch.

[Part2:mystery]

Mystery in this anime is the beacon of hope in this anime.The setting and the plot are confusing but mysterious at the same time.The potential of this anime is to make you feel curious about this plot.What'll happen next?What is it all about???By thinking these questions,you'll find the plot is interesting somehow.

Though the explanations are not done well,mystery perhaps may let you get through a few episodes somehow...

[Conclusion]

To sum up,Qualidea code is a cliche show that seems to have potential in it.Unfortunately,due to poor presentation,the story structure is broken badly and doesn't worth much to expect in general.


Animation art(2/10)(10%)

Animation is probably the weakest point in this anime,which causes most action anime fans felt disappointed.

Apart from poor animated actions,there're also several animation problems in Qualidea Code that I think they should pay more efforts on them.

The characters drawing in Qualidea Code are poor in general.The drawing of the characters are cheap and abnormal.If the camera is far away from the characters,You'll see they just outline the characters shape and fill them with inks but without paying any efforts on specific drawings.

For the visuals,the colours in this anime are generally nothing special and simple.Nothing bright and rich,it just barely meet the basic 2D anime standard.

For the camera angles,it may also affects your viewing experience too.Weird camera transitions are all around the place,it's really confusing to get to know whats going on in the show.Ive to rewatch the show again and again to clearly understand what's going on.

Sound(3/10)(10%)

Sound is another weak spot in Qualidea code,not because of the op and ed,but because of inadequate soundtracks and sound effects.As we all know,soundtracks and sound affects could able to add exciting atmosphere towards the whole show.In Qualidea Code,the main sound source is voice acting.Thats right,the whole show is just a bunch of texts ,meanwhile,soundtracks and sound effects seem to be ripped off during the whole show causing the whole show lack of excitements.

The only redeeming aspects are the op and ed,they're the only sound elements with rocking theme and fits into the theme.Im generally felt disappointed about the sound in this anime.

Characters(4/10)(25%)

Let's start with the obvious and good ones.The show is good at making characters conflicts.Take Ichiya as an example.Ichiya is annoying as hell in the beginning,he like calling his fighting partners useless and he says he like working alone but he will bring his sister Canaria together with him.On the other hand,he has passion on fighting because of his terrible childhood,which is good that the protagonist has some positive attitude towards battles.However,he is over-confidence himself,which result some bad consequence towards the whole Tokyo team.Im generally find these conflicts due to different characters personalities are interesting to watch and makes the plot more richer,which I think it's the highlight of the show in the aspect of character development.

They also manage the back stories of the characters well.For example,Ichiya and Hima,they both have back stories describling themselves and able to explain the personalities of the characters in the story successfully.

Unfortunately,they have some flaws in the characters development,which may not appeal to everyone.

First of all,The character designs are too cheap,especially for the unknowns.Similar to the cliche plot,they literally called the aliens as “Unknowns”,again I can't explain the creativity of that,it's just too cliche.For the personalities of the characters:Female characters are mostly caring and heart-warming;Male characters are either overpowerful and over confidence or being a guy who obsessed his own sister,they literally copypasted every personalities of characters from other animes too and the strengths and weaknesses are not well-round.

Moreover,it seems that the pace of the story ruins character development.Most of the main characters are underdevloped and lacking of depths due to rushed plot,which causes some of the MC are being abandoned and affects the arrangement of characters.Most of the MC,for example,Hima and Ichiya will not be noteworthy in some of the episodes but suddenly they will show off again.It feels awkward and weird at the same time and characters in this anime are unable to show off in a proper way.

So again,similar to the case of the storyline,the character development has both highlights and several flaws at the same time,which could have some of the audience attention,while some people may think it's awkward at the same time.

Enjoyment(4/10)(20%)

The plot of Qualidea Code will let you deep into confusion,which you will consider whether drop the anime or not.Though at the end,you may feel that the plot seems to be kind of worthwhile.

Unfortunately,due to poorly presented plot,this anime doesn't meet your standard any longer,but instead we will have to lower our expectations in order to adapt the rushed ending.

At the end,Qualidea Code is like a stone near the road that doesn't really noticeable in your anime life.It just feel empty and meaningless...

To conclude,Qualidea Code is a kind of show that is empty and meaningless.Though it seems to have potential in the middle of the episodes,it doesn't get my attention much or worth any re-watch value.

Overall(3.35/10)(F)(Dreadful)

Do yourself a favor. Watch something else. This is without a doubt one of the worst pieces of Garbage that has ever come out in the anime world. I feel like I need to cleanse my eye balls with Kyoani or PA Works animation because Qualidea Code was far from "Quality"

While the story was decent every thing else was a train wreck.
The characters were sub-par but overall they were generic characters.

The aniation was like watching a Visual Novel at some points, there would just be still screens with music and yelling in the background.

Also if you don't like random Dubstep music crossed over MULTIPLE times ... with the same Pop song that gets played throughout this anime then again you want to watch something else.

Please, I can't stress this enough. Watch something else...STEER CLEAR FROM THIS ANIME.

This is my first (short) review so I apologize in advance if there is a mistake or something that bothers anyone. This review contain a micro spoiler.

When I first heard that the writer of Oregairu and Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko promises to make an anime together, I thought that it will be great. Two different novel writer work together to make an anime sounds very promising, right? But I was wrong. Totally. Here's the reason why this anime looks feels like a crap.

First, it's not even a battle anime. It's a slice of life anime. Wait, you have weapons, enemies, and even rivals. So, ... why did it turns out that we have slice of life scenes instead of battles? I think I will never understand why.

Second, its story, its interaction, and even its character itself are boring. We have an annoying MC, his overly-kind sister, a cool-siscon rival and his cool sister, a princess captain and her overly-possessive "servant". Our MC even have an annoying catchphrase, which is perfect (sarcasm). I can't even describe them in more than one sentence. So what is our protagonist's motive again?

Third, yes, they have battle scene, but it was short and mainstream. MC blows all the monster. His rival snipe everything. His sister singing. His sister's rival is also shooting. Their captain bludgeoning "unknowns". All of them aren't exactly memorable.

The only thing that manages to catch my attention is its OP and ED. Their art isn't look bad but also fails to make the protagonists unique.

Overall, this anime disappoint me in many ways. I don't recommend to watch this, as there are more entertaining anime outside.

I wish they would think of slice of life instead of battle.

I was going into the anime thinking it will be cute school based anime...
Well... I got some bad news this anime is complete dog shit. All of the characters are cocky as fuck or squeakers. The plot is humanity was destroyed by the "UnKnOwN" the characters have school bla bla bla. its just not worth getting into. The couple episodes I watched were very cringey, I had to skip some of the parts because I couldn't just take it. Overall the anime looks plain nothing intersting. The characters really lack personality, the plot is bad. I just didn't enjoy it as much as other ... animes, which is sad I thought this would be a great show to watch, but no its just bad no more, no less.

well well well what do we have here another high school related anime, is what i thought and i might have enjoyed it a bit more. the whole plot of the anime is confusing, SPOILERS- i don't understand how the demons and there weapons work (tentacles) like is its from there bodies or is that there world power :/. and so on like how does the powers work and what world did they experience its really confusing well let's get to the rating.

story : 5/10
it's not that bad but it wasn't well done tho. there where moments that would have improved if the story ... was a bit different so that there could be a bit more enjoyment from the story.

art: 3/10
in some panels the art was garbage in the other it was straight up drawn by a kiddo, the shading was awful, the faces of the characters where so dumb looking and weirdly drawn it was really disappointing and it was made in 2016 like come on if seen older anime with better faces.

sound: 6/10
the music and bg sounds where well done, the op was more like-able- because of lisa so ill let them off the hook. the sounds of the black orb's where cool and the blondies singing was lovely.

character: 5/10
the characters where average and bad the only 2 i liked where the Chigusa siblings. as a older brother myself i could relate to these characters a lot more then others but my fav f this show has to be asuha she was a funny and good looking character and the best of this show :).

enjoyment: 2/10
didn't enjoy the series that much the plot was dropping and got dragged around a lot like what are we doing, killing the unknowns or killing the students again what's the plot for this anime i wondered for some time and i haven't found it because i just quickly finished the anime and i was done with this anime.

it was ok but not interesting the plot wasn't there for me and the characters weren't that like-able-the only good characters where the Chigusa sibling. well that's all from me hope you have a good day :D
