M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane

ahh. M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane.... Lets star off at the good.
Sound: The music was great. I loved the intro and outro score, it was a very interesting tune. I watched a subbed version so I enjoyed the speakers alot. and the robot action sounds were good too.

Art: I also enjoyed the art alot. It was very serious, which i enjoy alot.

Now lets move on to the rest....
Story: The idea was interesting, but the execution of the story I thought in my opinion was bad. It was slow. Now as a fan of Fate Zero. I should know that I shouldn't ... judge a show by the beginning because fate zero had a long 45 minute intro episode. The only difference was that Fate got it out of the way, and it was packed with alot of information. M3 still hasn't, in my opinion, fully explained or established it intention yet, and I was seven episodes in. And I probably shouldn't be comparing one anime to another, but I feel I should, Its like comparing video games.

Characters: Ehh. meh.(gunts) Where going to start with Hazaki, Emiru. At the "beginning" she was bubbly, and all of a sudden, not but 3 or 4 episodes in shes serious like somebody took away her vibrator. (spoiler********** and when Emiru died, I feel I was supposed to be sad, but I wasn't. And then lollipop guy was the bad guy I dont need to continue to watch it to know hes going to fuck something up. As for the rest of the characters their about as warm and inviting as a cold rag soaked in piss. A perfect example of this is Yuzuki, Mahmu. oh boy there's more that wrong with this show but im tired.

So from here on out M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane is a seven episode series to me, and I did not like it at all, It seemed like a chore to watch and I just was not interested in it.

A combination of horror and mecha what could go wrong? well in this show case almost everything.
If you ever asked yourself this question "A mecha show cannot be boring,it has giant robots right?"
Then this show is the answer to that question,it spends hours and hours of dialogue,useless flashbacks that repeat themselves over and over again,a bunch of scifi-horror jargon that never gets fully explained,unlikeable and annoying characters and the only two decent characters were never given enough screentime to carry the show.The mechas and their weapons feel weak through the whole show,they look like they are shooting water bullets,the main giant "enemy" is overpowered and ... mechas are useless against him and the only way he gets "defeated" is with power of friendship so if you were waiting for a massive battle at the end you will be left with nothing but dissapointing.
The only thing good about this series would be the second Ending song by Nano,at least that song should carry you through the secound cour of 11 episodes.If you really "really" wanna watch this i would say watch the recap that covers episodes 1-13 then watch the rest of the episodes,that way you wont feel the weight of hours and hours of useless dialogue.
If i had to describe this show in a big sentence it would be:
Slow,boring,annoying characters,generic music score,generic mecha design,generic character designs,generic animation and a dumb ending.

I can only recomend this to people who suffer from insomnia.

This was something I had grabbed because I wanted to watch another mecha show. (And it was recommended from the Bokurano page, so yet another downvote for MAL recommendation givers.) I really should have grabbed almost anything else.

The characters are about as unlikable as possible, and the stilted and awkward dialog does nothing to help with that. I was actively rooting for the big bad to kill all of the kids off, but only after the grownups had been piled up and burned alive so at least some of the screaming would actually have a purpose behind it. The plot is inane technobabble stirred ... into misunderstandings and flavored with characters repeating things already mentioned over and over again.

And the art and animation was just... Ugh. I understand that things will be poorly lit when a major part of the action takes place inside an area called the Lightless Realm, but a predominantly black color scheme doesn't help at all when you are trying to see what is going on with the action. The character design is generic and bland, the animation has more issues than the New York Post, and the CGI is about as believable as the anime as a whole. Which is to say not at all.

This is not an enjoyable anime. Period. It failed at any aspect of storytelling, fight choreography, and giving a reason to care about the characters. For a psychological mecha drama with major action pieces, that is a death blow. I would recommend that this be placed on the pile of titles that should be forgotten about. Not the pile of titles to be avoided at all costs, as that only encourages masochists like me to pick it up, but just forgotten about. Hopefully that will keep people from ever finding it again.

Recommendation level: Not even worth a hatewatch.
