Both are fantasy romance adventure series that involve an epic war, and I can't help but believe that Utawarerumono took some inspiration from Lodoss. Both are very good and if you like one you will probably enjoy the other. Keep in mind that Lodoss is a little older, though. =)

According to online sources, Mahou Senshi Louie is a sister series of Record of Lodoss War in that it takes place on a continent north of Lodoss Island. Now, setting and genre are that of the same fantastical plane. Lodoss = more intensity, more drama and it has more graphic violence and main character is more goal oriented (completed watching) Mahou Senshi = more comedy with same elements of fantasy, also has a bit of fan service--main character is a bit on the clueless side. all in all, still enjoyable to watch (currently watching)

Besides the usual sword and sorcery stuff that comes with a medieval fantasy setting, I couldn't help but think of Goblin Slayer several times while watching Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. The biggest overlap is the berserker Orson has an identical origin story to everyone's favorite goblin slaying mad man, only the Lodoss version is PG13. There's also a young priestess of a different earth mother goddess who takes the lead heroine position in the second part of the story.

RoLW is set in a fantasy world with fantasy elements similar to Slayers (some say Slayers is a parody to RoLW, which is somewhat true).

Both are adventure / fantasy focusing on a party of adventurers while the trouble of a nation is going on in the background.

Similar fantasy setting. Swords and magic along with politcal issues.

Both are great tales of epic campaigns that one would do in Dungeons and Dragons though not strict to any classes etc. In True D&D fashion there is always room for the next adventure.
