Gakkou no Kaidan

Basically, scooby doo, but more predictable and japanese. Well, that's the original anime for you, the "sub version" of this anime is like a strong 4 at best. The dub on the other hand? A masterpiece

Imagine an abridged series going legit. Well, this anime is exactly that.
(This is second hand information) Ghost stories was poorly received in japan, so when it was handed over for redub for the west, they basically had 2 requirements. Don't change names and keep the ways the ghosts are defeated.
AND THEY WENT HAM ON IT. Event though i have no idea if that is actually true, i wouldn't be surprised ... if it was.

This might just by one of the 3 perfect comedy anime, along with cromartie highschool and nichijou.

The story? There is a book with info on how to get rid of ghosts, kids fuck things up, as they do, and release some. The rest is monster of the week type of show.

The characters? There is a big "main" cast but i would consider Hajime and Satsuki the main characters. They get a funny line every now and then in the eng dub. Where the comedy happens is the other characters and their interactions. You got a girl obsessed with christianity, a jew, a talking sarcastic cat and an actually retarded (potentially adopted) little kid. Let the madness ensue.

Visuals? It looks exactly like any other middle of the road 2000s show. But hey at least it's not CG!

The comedy? It all comes from the voice acting and rewritten lines....such as.
"Bobby please forgive me for bringing you back to life, I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we want it to. Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black"

Enjoyement, the only score that actually matters? ALL OF IT.
Now, when you start up the show it won't be all that funny. At first it's like they care about the show and try to keep it normal, fast forward 7 episodes and you have a them making dumb noises just to match the lips.

Ghost Stories will go down as the greatest anime dub of all time. The dub is great, and not because the voices are speculator or anything, but due to the dub turning a supposedly garbage anime into a great one. For those who don't know, Ghost Stories is a horror mystery anime that bombed in Japan due to how bad it was. For some reason, ADV got the rights to it and gave absolutely no shits when dubbing it. Supposedly the only things they weren't allowed ... to change were the character's names and how the ghost were defeated in every episode. All of the names are the same, but there are a few episodes where they break the second rule which is completely fine by me. In one of the last episodes they defeat a ghost by telling it not to eat the yellow snow which is perfect.

Story: 3
By far the worst part of Ghost Stories would be its story. Every episode is episodic and sticks to the same generic formula. The cast is dicking around, they find out a ghost is causing trouble, and they stop it. It gets really old really quick. None of it is scary and it just gets boring most of the time. We all know no one is going to die, nothing is going to change, it just sucks. Not even the dub could save the shitty story.

From what I've heard, Studio Pierrot put a lot of money into this show and its not that good looking of a show. It doesn't look like shit, it looks fine. There are some good looking scenes but most of the time it just looks fine. Character designs aren't really good, especially Leo, no idea why his lips aren't like that, and I'm also more surprised that the dub never made a joke about it.

Sound: 8
Kind of hard to score the sound. The soundtrack itself is whatever. It's always over-exaggerated a lot but sometimes it could be so bad that its funny. The OP Grow Up I actually enjoy and I love the ED Sexy Sexy even if it has no reason to be in a kids show.
The voices however, are perfect. Voice acting is good, but of course the dialogue is fantastic.

Characters: 9
The characters in Ghost Stories are great. Satsuki is a bitch and hates her brother. My personal favorite, Hajime, is a perverted piece of shit, Momoko is a full on Christian, Keiichirou is retarded, and Reo is Jewish. It's a great cast of characters and the series shines the brightest when all of them are together talking about the dumbest shit imaginable.
On a short serious note, I realized that the dub may have actually added a bit of character development to the character Momoko. In the dub the only thing she cares about is being a Christian and spreading the word of God. However, midway through the series, its revealed that she used to be a stripper, and was addicted to drugs. She changed her ways in rehab and transformed into a Christian. I know its really stupid and the writers or Monica probably had no intention of doing this but its still notable.

Ghost Stories used to be in my top 15 anime of all time, however while rewatching it I enjoyed it considerably less. Sure it can be hilarious during a handful of episodes but during most of it I'd say it's above average in terms of comedy. The jokes aren't even clever most of the time. It's just funny hearing a bunch of little kids talking about fucking midgets, spreading the word of God, etc. My problem during a second viewing would have to be consistency. The first 2 episodes aren't great, they have their moments, but they're nothing amazing. Episodes 3-11 are great, 12-16 aren't good, but the last 4 episodes get great again. A lot of the jokes in episodes 12-16 were either just repeated jokes that were used before that just got old, or they weren't nearly as many jokes in the episodes at all. Don't know if the cast didn't get enough beer that day or what but it's definitely noticeable.

Despite enjoying it a lot less a second time around, I still really really like Ghost Stories. It may be inconsistent with its episodes, the jokes may get stale, the story sucks, but fuck it.
If you haven't already, Ghost Stories is an absolute must watch for everyone.

I have to start by first saying if you are somehow not watching this anime dubbed you need to stop and start the dubbed right away.

Ghost Stories is one of those series that on paper even sounds horrible. A few friends getting into ghost trouble every episode, kinda sounds repetitive right?
Well this anime is one of the most over the top, weirdly intriguing and down right bizarre anime shows I have every watched. The dubbed comedy and characters just blend together so perfectly. I don't know how they did it but the dub fits all the scenes perfectly and I cant imagine any of the ... characters acting any other way. Comedy gold with a sprinkle of ghostly goings on.

Now the story in Ghost Stories isn't anything to write home about. Its fine. Its basic and it isn't developed much. I gave it a 6.(Fair)

The art actually holds up decently well. Its really okay. Its not great but I quite liked the simplicity it has. You also get some spooky ghost designs which are quite unique in their own right. This also got a 6. (Fair)

Sound. The opening and ending were ... good in a bad way. I don't dislike them, they are fine, but the ending just ... sexy sexy. The sound as a whole was good. (7)

The characters, well I loved each and every character in the show, from Keiichiro and his incessant crying. To my personal favourite Hajime just being hilarious throughout the whole show. I'm sure there is a character in this show that everyone can love. (Don't expect the characters to go on an emotional journey just enjoy them for who they are) 10 Outstanding (Dubbed)

How could I not give this a 10 .... it had me crying with laughter. It kept me smiling throughout the series. I thoroughly enjoyed Ghost Stories.

Overall: Ghost Stories is GREAT. Its unique, its over the top. Its a must watch, every episode keeps you looking forward to the next slice of comedy gold. You never know what is around the next corner for both the ghosts and the main characters. After finishing this show I have one word ... Wow ...

Ok so first of all, DO NOT WATCH the Subbed version of this anime series. Now its very rare that a DUBBED anime is better than the Subbed but in this case watch the Dub. The company that obtained the rights to 'Dub' this series essentially allowed the cast to say/ write whatever they wanted. If you enjoyed abridged series such as Team Four Star ect. then you will love the dub for this series as it essence it becomes a comedy dub. Apart from the actual dub aspect I personally wouldn't even bother watching the show. I mean the anime is older from the ... early 2000 and the story isn't gripping, i mean the audio is good and the characters i mean are at least some what explored.

This anime is an absolute shitshow in every way. The original is complete, unwatchable rubbish with a plot that makes high school dxd look like death note, and the dub is full of blatant racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, ableism, sexism, and every kind of offensive language you can imagine, with the only exception being that they didn't use the n-word. Congrats. You would honestly struggle to find a show more offensive in the USA in the 50s. They even have levels to it where they have made an entire character whose only personality trait is that they are a Christian supremacist that would make puritans proud, ... in fact, all the characters are some of the shittiest and most annoying little craps I've ever seen.

Imagine that you study in a haunted school that have so many supernatural beings that want you dead or something like that. And the only thing that could save you is... a very hilarious impromptu dubbed anime. Gakkou no Kaidan or more known as Ghost Stories is an anime praised not by the story, the art style, or even the soundtracks but for its impromptu hilarious dub. This anime is a very proof that being a creative person is above everything.

The story of Ghost Stories is mediocre at its best with repeating the same formula over and over again until 19 episodes. First, the episode ... opened with a brief introduction of what the ghost of the day and what it did to its victim. Then we continue with everyday life of the gang that leads to meeting the ghost. After that, they read the mother's journal or book or whatever is that just to find it is so hard to read. Being chased or something like that and ended with some purification ritual that depends on what ghost is it. Somehow reminded me of Scooby-Doo but with real ghosts. It seemed the Japanese knew that this is a very crappy anime and said "This is a crappy anime. Just do whatever to sell this. I don't care anymore." to the Americans and somehow the Americans knew well how to make this anime very interesting : making the dub as stupid as ever.

Yes, Ghost Stories is infamous for their hilarious dub and may have the stupidest yet funnest dub in the very history of dub. The constant fourth breaking, funny dialogues, and somehow altering all of the casts background except their name. The dub does really went overboard with changing all of the casts background. There's the pervert guy, the Jewish guy, the girl who claimed being born again as a Evangelical Christian, the girl with some mood issues, and her half-retarded brother. The dub loves to referencing pop cultures and it would be great for you guys who loves this references jokes. But because the jokes that being thrown are downright very (I mean very) vulgar and borderline harsh, I know that this dub is not for anyone who easily get triggered and don't say I haven't warned you, salty bastards.

What we have to wonder is why an anime that tells a story about ghosts and their curses have an opening that is very cheerful and makes me think that this anime is a very normal slice of life anime. And don't get me start on the ending song. Why does an anime about primary school students getting chased by ghosts have an ending song that literally called "Sexy, Sexy"? Are the creators of this anime is already predicted the dub version before they even started to record the dub? Whatever the reason, it just makes the dub more hilarious than ever.

Overall, this anime's dub is a very proof that creativity could change a bad thing into a very memorable thing that still being talked until now. This anime is a pure joy of hilariousness while joking around ghosts that supposed to be scary.

I started watching this series because I saw a youtube video showing the outrageous shit these kids were saying. Ended up watching all 20 episodes. It keeps getting more and more ridiculous. I laughed enough to continue watching. If this show didn't have the dub that it did then I wouldn't have even watched the first episode.

I've seen around that a lot of people are not entertained with this show but I would say it's their lacking sense of humor or are anime elitists. With this in mind this show may not be for you if you want to watch something that is more ... serious. If so I would suggest the anime Ghost Hunt.

If you would like a good laugh, funny characters, and nothing serious then watch some episodes of this anime.

To be honest. the whole story makes no god-damned sense. Especially towards the end when it becomes a clusterfuck of different stories and confusing tropes. Everything about this anime screams mediocre. It was all hand-drawn (or very poorly CG drawn), while this is not bad in itself, it leads to some scenes of very poor animation. The music is pitiful, almost all the music that is played is stuff that is in the public domain (at least i think so), almost none of it is original. The Characters are actually not bad. Although they are all generic in some way. Why did I enjoy this ... so much then? It's very funny. I should touch on the fact that the rights to this were bought before it flopped in japan, so the license holders told the voice actors to pretty much say whatever they want. It leads to some very funny scenes. "Ghosts only get evil people like republicans and we're not old enough to vote". "Principals always look like lesbians". "it's just like living next to charlie sheen". The best part, is this was dubbed in 2005 and all of the humor is still relevant today. I wasn't very old in 2005 (only 11), so I don't remember much news and jokes about that time, yet every single line said in this is relevant. I highly recommend you watch this, of course, as long as it is the dub.

The show's English dub makes its lackluster plot and repetitive storylines bearable. Let's be honest, the story is absolute nonsense, every episode has the same basic plotline, and the show relies a lot on the character's making ridiculously poor choices to move along. All in all, without the English dub it's just a crappy show that isn't scary or heartwarming at all.

The reason I give this show an 8 is because the voice actors did an outstanding job delivering the jokes and the writing team did an outstanding job writing them. The show can be enjoyed to the fullest only if you ... have knowledge of American pop culture, as there are plenty of references and jokes that only make sense if you know who people like Christian Slater and other celebrities are. A lot of the jokes are reference based, mercilessly poking fun at popular celebrities, movies, and sometimes TV shows. If you don't watch anything other than anime or have no interest in pop culture, a LOT of these references will go straight over your head and a lot of the lines that are meant to be funny will just sound stupid.

But references are only the beginning of the humor. The next thing that the writers did was turn otherwise uninteresting characters into wacky, hilarious crazies each with their own unique trait that drives a lot of the jokes. One character even has 90% of his lines turned into incoherent mumbling and is dubbed mentally retarded by the rest of the cast, and it is hilarious. Be warned, the cast has no soft spot for sensitive topics. Another character becomes an (extremely) devout Christian, which makes for some of the best lines in the show. So even if you're not into reference based humor, the characters are hilarious, too.

Even so, the jokes aren't reserved to just references and character quirks, some of the lines are genuinely funny and will have you laughing out loud. Scenes are twisted to look like something they're not, lines and sometimes conversations are completely omitted in favor of funny banter, and there is generally never a serious moment in the show. Don't come in expecting a plot, or anything serious at all, because anything that could get serious are starts becoming serious is thrown out the window in favor of a ridiculous script that sometimes isn't even relevant to what's going on in the scene except for the fact that the facial expressions and actions match the dialogue.

All in all, the show is great. It gets an 8 because there's no point in judging the show for its story or its art or its music, because it's really just like stand up comedy. It's joke after joke after joke and every episode brings something new. The only reason this is getting an 8 is because sometimes it felt like jokes were coming in just for the sake of messing up the original script or saying something stupid in lieu of saying something serious. There's a lot of hit or miss humor, and to say that all of it was a hit for me would be a lie. I laughed, a lot, but sometimes it felt like jokes were just being shoe-horned into the script. They could have handled it a lot more tastefully and built up to the jokes, but due to the way its set up you can tell when they're going to come, just wait for one or two lines that sound like they're actually from the original script and you can almost guarantee the next line will be a joke.

So, from my standpoint, while the show was genuinely hilarious, and that's really all that matters here (if you're looking for anything besides nonstop humor find something else), it could have been done a little better, and for that reason it gets an 8. I still highly recommend it to anybody who just wants to laugh.

Imagine those absolutely trashy animes that have 0 substance or any real interest and then you have some crazy idea to try to make them more interesting by dubbing the entire show with inappropriate jokes and some of the funniest voice acting ever.

Well that's where Ghost Stories comes in. I'll keep it short, this show is definitely worth a watch because there is simply nothing I've seen like it, while a lot of the show is pretty lacking such as the story and the art; the dub brings it back to something totally worth your time! I really enjoyed the series and I couldn't ... stop laughing.

Now if you're confused why I gave this a ten that's understandable if you watched the Japanese version but the dub is a COMPLEATLY different story. In short this anime did mediocre in Japan and they gave the rights for most aspects of the show over to a western studio and they produced this masterpiece of a show. Basically changing every character into something horribly raunchy or offensive like making one a born again Christian and another a fickle Jew If you'd like to know more Scamboli Reviews has a fantastic video about it. Anyway review time.

So you can tell even from the dub that ... this show is incredibly formulaic but that doesn't really matter in fact the dub actively starts pointing this out and making fun of it. The plot is still the same but not super coherent as a result of most of the dubbing being ad-libbed and a focus on making it funny.

I feel the main draw of watching this is witnessing a very unique thing would never happen in anime today. This came out in the early 2000's and you can tell with references to George Busch and humor that would NOT fly today but is very funny nonetheless.

If an edgy abridged of a mediocre Scooby-Doo rip off anime sounds enticing to you 10/10 would recommend I was laughing my ass off at last once an episode. (Special shout outs to 5,9, and 15.) but if that edgy humor isn't your thing than this won't interest you but I can assure you they rip on everyone and I mean EVERYONE equally. They go for Republicans, Democrats, Christians, Jews, Mexicans, Indians and everything in between. So don't be to apprehensive to at least give it a try!

If you watch this, watch the DUB because it takes what would otherwise be an easily forgotten anime and turns it into a masterpiece. The DUB for this show is so hilariously bad but that makes it great.

I'm sure that you've already heard or read about the DUB for Ghost Stories but, in cas you haven't, it is very funny. It is filled with a lot of off colour comments, jokes, and insults that the SUB lacks. The people who dubbed this were given free reign on what they said and they just went wild with it. Some will find it very insulting, but ... I'm pretty thick skinned so I just laughed at most of it. This isn't to say that it's anything truly witty but it is absurd (and absurdity is something I always find funny).

I would recommend this if you want a show that embodies that 90s/early 2000s feel of the internet. The humor would best be described as edgy and aged. It isn't for everyone but I would say that it is worth seeing if you like edgy humor. The story is definitely not what's going to keep you watching.

So listen here, I know some of you subs-only elitists are gonna crucify me for saying this but this one MUST be watched dubbed. Why? Because the story by itself sucks. A lot. It was so bad that the original studio agreed to let the Americans do whatever the hell they wanted with it. So now it has been reduced as simply a comedy with the wisecrack jokes you'd expect Octopimp or any other anime abridged series creator to make.. except its the official dub. And its wonderful.

But seriously, don't watch this shit show if you're expecting a good story.

Just...hilarious! A gem from the first years of the 2000s. Apparently it was so bad, the dub team improv'd most of the lines, but that might be just an urban legend. Anyways, the original anime was god-awful, but the dub makes it hilarious and worthy of watching on a rainy day. It's not a masterpiece in any sense unless you're counting comedy. The humor might not appeal to everyone, but it appealed to me and my friends. I have to write a longer review, so here's some quotes:

Keiichiro: That was freaky
Momoko: What?
Keiichiro: You sounded like mom. I didn't know you did impressions.
Momoko: What are ... you talking about? Oh my goodness, do I need to get back on my medications? Tell me, are my eyes red?

Sastuki: Why are you crying?
Keiichiro: Because these pajamas are gay.

Like, the humor is either so stupid or so true it's funny.
Each episode is its own story. There's Satsuki and Keiichiro, who are siblings, who fight ghosts with Momoko (aka Born-Again Betty), Hajime, Leo, and their cat who is possessed by some monster freak.

Have you ever accidentally watched a show you have not intended to watch? See, that was an easy one. It happens to everyone.

Let's swiftly move towards a less common problem: have you ever watched the series you were convinced was a different show? Now you might be asking yourself, how is this even possible, or probably what kind of a nonce could even manage such stupidity? The answer is currently typing this review.

For about two years, I have been planning to watch an anime called Kaidan Restaurant, and eventually its turn came. Unfortunately, I struggled finding a living torrent for the series, and just when ... I was to give up, one of the anime sites reacted to the keyword 'Kaidan.' I was filled with joy and downloaded the series called Gakkou no Kaidan, for some reason convinced it must have been the Japanese name of it, at the time suspecting no folly.

As it happens, the theme of both animes is also similar—school children, ghosts, and urban legends. Both also target the same audience: children of middle school age, and so even as I've started the show and remembered the basics of description, I was still clueless it was not the show I was after.

Knowing it's a show aimed at children, I did not expect all this much. And Gakkou no Kaidan, indeed, did not offer much. Every episode was covering a different ghost story, either traditional or urban, and there wasn't an actual story line. On the other hand, you could see there was something to keep the series together as a continuous story rather than 20 unrelated episodes featuring same characters. Although the link was very small, shaped as a demon possessed cat, I must say it did fulfill its duty. Not too splendidly, but it did. Plus, Amanojaku is my by far favourite character.

However, now that I brought this up, I must say there wasn't any other character I liked. All of them were bland. Not even generic, just bland. Shells with no personality, unique traits or anything that makes viewers fond of the characters. I imagine this is why the humorously dubbed version of the series (the one I've discovered after completion of the series) has more success. Although an open mock, it actually gave those boring characters some.... Erm, character.

What peeved me the most was the drawing style. As an anime artist myself, I always get sensitive about anatomy, and while the body structure of characters was alright, it's often the size of their heads that concerned me. On the other hand, I reminded myself (or was rather reminded by a particular episode featuring the very first computers) the anime is nearly 20 years old and, for its time, it was great. I have checked its age on MyAnimeList, and even after checking the series on the database I have not realized that's not the show I thought I was watching. Although I admit that's when a hint of doubt flashed, as I distantly recalled the series being newer.

Now, my main enquiry with Gakkou no Kaidan is whether it is truly aimed at children or not. Once upon a time, I thought Narutaru was a lovely kid's show, but with each episode growing darker and creepier, I was soon stripped of my sweet delusions. This show, on the other hand, is not as obvious.

As I've first started watching it, I could hardly hold back a smile. As a kid I loved everything to do with ghosts, and whenever a cartoon had an episode with ghosts, mummies, or anything of the kind, it was my instant favourite. Up until the final five episodes, I was convinced a younger me would have had absolutely loved Gakkou no Kaidan.

However, I must admit, a few things about it did not seem so childish from the start. The ending theme "Sexy Sexy," seeing its translation and very sexual context, in my opinion, was not too suitable for a children's show. But actually it wasn't a big deal, and I only laughed about it. I've even showed it to my boyfriend, and both of us chuckled how cringe Japanese are.

Another thing I found mildly disturbing was Hajime's obsession with Satsuki's panties. Ecchi themes are not uncommon in anime, and probably can be seen as an essential part of it, but I have not yet seen another kid's show to have it. If it was just a single insert for the sake of laugh, I would understand it. Yet, it was a repeating theme and what was the most unsettling is that the characters are no older than 11.

As I have previously mentioned, it's the last few episodes that made me doubt. Episode 15, "Ritual of Darkness," was the first that gave me a spook and I have long stopped being a child. The next episode, on the other hand, had nothing significantly scary in it and I once again wrote it off as a simple mistake.

However, the mistake was mine. Starting episode 17, "The Horror of Bloodstained Lake," I swore that whenever my mother instincts kick in and I decide to reproduce, my children will not be introduced to this anime. As an adult, I found the following episodes scary and can only wonder how far would have my imagination gone had I seen them as a child.

A few goosebumps attacks is what made me double check the age category of this anime on MyAnimeList, just when I was two episodes away from completion. I swear my face was as scary as any ghost when the recommendation tab suggested if I like Gakkou no Kaidan, I will also like... Kaidan Restaurant. I will skip all the words I spewed out in shock, along the gasp attack I've had upon my discovery, and will simply voice my verdict.

It's not a bad show, and it does not deserve as much hate as other reviewers give it. It is quite entertaining, easy to watch, and not too demanding. There are plenty of logical mistakes an adult spots straight away, yet to children, at whom this anime is aimed, would not really notice it. However, the problem is I'm not convinced it's a kids how. In my opinion, it had too many sexual themes. Some may argue they were hardly any, but I strongly believe a children's show must not contain any. Plus, some episodes were actually scary and can give some adults (namely me) nightmares. I imagine those would scar children for life.

Oh, and I must add: I have eventually found Kaidan Restaurant and this time I'm downloading the right show.

Watch the fucking dub and you will understand why I think this fucking shit is a masterpiece. It's the greatest thing ever. You have no sense of humor if you think otherwise. Seriously, watch this shit alone, watch it with friends, get high, or drunk, whatever, it's fucking hilarious!

I have to write a longer review, gotta get that chaaracter limit. MyAnimeList hates fun. No fun aloud. I wish I was dead, no seriously please I want to die. Jesus take the wheeeeeel and drive me off a cliiiiiiffff. Because I don't haaavvve the baaaallllllls!!!!!

Just like everyone else here, I am writing a review on this anime based on the ADV English dub. I've seen the first 2 episodes of this anime in another English dub that was NOT ADV and it bored me to death, which is why when I found out about the ADV (With FUNimation voice actors) parody one, I jumped at it to see what it was all about.

I have to say the story-wise this anime sucks balls. I don't even know how it got so many episodes lol. It's just the same thing over and over for each episode. The art is meh, but ... I guess that's what's expected for the time period. I decided to watch this anime for one reason: The score/OST was produced by the guy who did the music for InuYasha - Wada Kaoru! yeah! It sounds ridiculously similar to InuYasha's music. I have to say I enjoyed most of the score.

What made this anime a 7 for was low-and-behold: The ADV dub! It was funny as hell and it made me wonder how they made such ridiculous joke tie-in with the actual story. At times it seemed as if the jokes were actually a part of it. Good job in saving the show, ADV! This gave me 19 episodes of laughter. Legend has it that I'm still laughing in my coffin.

Ok, this anime is pretty old, but here's the backstory on basically the whole thing. (Spoilers depending on how you look at it)

They made the anime in Japan and it didn't do so hot with the sub because lets face it, this is like Scooby Doo for pretty much every episode. Pierrot wanted it to dub and the studio that made it sent it over, but the one thing they forgot was the script for it to translate. When asked about the script, Pierrot told them to just do whatever they wanted with the anime, and this is the dubbed version of Ghost Stories. ...

Story: Pretty average. Nothing spectacular or outstanding about it. Like mentioned before, its like watching a marathon of Scooby Doo episodes over and over again. (Overall a 5)

Sound: The big part. This is one anime that you cannot watched subbed. The dub makes the show. Its ad-libbed for the most part with so many fourth wall breaks and American pop culture references for that time period you'll be going "Wait what?" at least once every episode and then grabbing the remote to hear what they said. Its obvious the voice actors had fun making up lines off the top of their heads, and it really works for something like this. (9)

Characters: Along with the dub, the characters in the dub make the show even better than what it was. Satsuki Miyanoshita is your main heroine with her brother Keiichiro. They move to town and meet perverted Hajime Aoyama, super Christian Momoko Koigakubo, Jewish Reo Kakinoki (Leo) and the demon Amanojaku, which possesses their cat. Each episode has its own set of side characters like the teachers and the dad, but that's pretty much the main group. These characters are wacky, zany, random, racist, perverted, and say the weirdest things that take a while to process before you laugh out loud. (9)

Enjoyment: I found this anime after looking at a top ten list on Youtube. I read the story about how it was ad-libbed and not taken seriously so I thought I had to try it. Before I even made it to episode 5 I was buying the dvd on Amazon and waiting for it to get here and finished it in a weekend. If your humor is somewhat like South Park's humor (toned down though it does get raunchier as the show goes on) then this at least deserves the first couple of episodes watched.

Overall its a low 9.

This show is basically like a bad anime version of Scooby Doo. Kids find and get rid of ghosts and yea, there's nothing else really. The original version is pretty damn bad, it's incredibly boring and the characters are quite stupid. If you wonder why it scored so high anyway, it's because of the dub. You might be like ''oh this is the show with the funny abridged dub'' but you'd be wrong, because the dub for this show is 100% legit and seriously funny. The show was originally a kids show but because it did so horribly, the creators pretty much handed it over ... for free to whatever studio would take it and told them to do whatever they wanted. They then decided to try and make it into some kind of absurd comedy, and it's very effective. If you're into slightly dark humor, pop culture references and random shit then this is for you!
I'm not gonna tell you it's the funniest thing in the world, but it definitely had moments that made me laugh so much I had tears in my eyes.
