The Big Channel was an Argentinian cable channel (1991-2000) aimed at children, owned by Pramer. It was associated with the former toy importer, Cartan.

This list is taken from Patrick W. Galbraith's book The Otaku Encyclopedia, published in 2009.

This is a list of the most important mecha series from the Showa era, every one of these shows released between 1972 and 1988 and had a substantial impact on the genre and helped shape it. They're compiled in chronological order, and director is listed when he's important person in his own right.

A basic recommendation of anime classics starting from the important year 1963 when Astro Boy debuted. Only one anime per franchise allowed, and selection is partly based on watchability, so you can get right into what seems interesting.

During this parts period mecha reigned supreme. At the same time moe was being formed leading to moe, ecchi, and ero tropes still in use today. This parts stand-out year for me is 1983 (Captain Tsubasa, Barefoot Gen, Votoms, Cat's Eye, Golgo 13, Dunbine, Creamy Mami, Kinnikuman, Stop! Hibari-kun!, Igano Kabamaru, Lady Georgie, Dallos)
