This is the second part of a collection of articles where I aim to explore the evolution of anime related music. This part of the list attempts to collect a list of most iconic performances on the "New Age" of anime music.

The term "New Age" used in this list refers to a phase after the "Anime Songs" phase. During this phase there started being more "tie-up songs" that that essentially were "tied" to the animated series in order to gain more exposure and market reach to the song itself. This was an interesting approach for many as it opened a new model on how to sell these products to the market.

The theme songs essentially dropped that strong connection to the series demonstrated by their lyrics and the emotion invoked by the song related to the series. Instead of that the song and the lyrics talk about the series or the characters with an indirect manner forming a supposed link between the performance and the series in question.

The supposed link consists of "the spirit" of the performance which refers to the indirect nature of the performance in relation to the series itself, and "the product" which refers to the stand alone nature of the performance itself as observed without the supposed connection to the initial series. The root of "the spirit" can be said originating from the earlier phase.

These types of theme songs were more common and popular after 1980s. The defining moment that can be said had influence on changing the theme songs away from this model is the popularity of the series "Urusei Yatsura" and how it used to promote a several "tie-up" songs that in contrast to "Anime Songs" by their nature don't necessarily have anything to do with the series, story or the characters as far as the direct approach goes.

I will write my thoughts on each of the entries on this list to further explain why I think the series and the theme songs included as a combined package have attained "iconic" status when it comes to the scene of "New Age" anime music in contrast to the "Anime Songs". I will also give a score related on how well "the spirit" and the "product" perform parallel to each other while complimenting the series as a whole. The series are ordered based on that score.

The term "iconic" in this list is defined by the popularity and how deeply established the spirit and the elements of the performance relating to the spirit establishing the product are in addition of them being supposedly intertwined with the series as a whole experience.

Published in December of 2015, by the Video Research Ltd. (Japanese marketing research company, that conductes audience measurement for television and radio. Since its foundation in 1962), it shows the ten highest television ratings, that were recorded in the households of the Kanto Region (the most populous part of modern Japan), from since they begun online research on September 26 of 1977, plus four previously recorded high ratings that happened before said date. To qualify for the viewer ratings, a show must be a regular series with episodes that run for 15 minutes or longer.

To be part of that list an anime (or donghua/aeni) needs:
-To be complete since at least 1 year.
-To be first serie adaptation of an anime OR of a remake. (no earlier prequel/parent story)
-To not be in top 1000 popularity.
-To have a popularity rank 5 times as high as its scoring rank minimum.

This is a list of anime television series by episode count for series with a minimum of 100 episodes.

Took a lot of time to make this, hope you found a new show to watch or learnt something as there is a plethora of unique shows in this list.

We all know the classic “elitist” shows, FLCL, Eva, Serial Experiments Lain.
However, these shows are just as deep, philosophical but are less known among the community, only being discussed and praised by a select few critics across various social media sites. [As a general rule, They can be from any time period, but of course most of them will be old cult-classics.]

Admittedly, I have not watched most of these shows, but have done my dutiful research to find them.

If this gets enough stacks, I might make a tertiary watchlist package :o

A list of some notable anime from the 70's & 80's. Since many grew up with anime in the 90's or later, this list features some well known and culturally significant anime that are underappreciated due to their age and relative obscurity.

It's perfect for anyone that wants to dive into older anime but has no idea where to start.

Anime that either I've seen or have heard of that have a high level of detail in their sound design and effects. I created this list because I liked the level of sound detail in Mizuiro Jidai. You might hear people talking in the background, various instruments playing in the music room, or the sound of the MC brushing her teeth.

Mitsuru Adachi is a Japanese manga artist.

Adachi is well known for romantic comedy and sports manga (especially baseball) such as Touch, H2, Slow Step, Miyuki and Cross Game. He has been described as a writer of "delightful dialogue", a genius at portraying everyday life, "the greatest pure storyteller", and "a master manga artist". He is one of the few manga artists to write for shōnen, shōjo and seinen manga magazines, and be popular in all three.

Any shows with multiple seasons will only show the first season here. OVAs and one-off movies not counted in total count, but films that fit in the storyline count as single episodes.
