OH MY GOD THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW!!!!

I changed mine that way to, it looks really weird to me cause I'm used to it being the other way around, but since the other order is the norm I changed it for the sake of not causing confusion.
APolygons2 May 4, 4:14 AM
Random question: why does everyone order their favourites from left to right?

I order it from right to left, because my 10th favourite anime changing, is WAY more likely than my 3rd or second favourite anime changing, and since mal puts new favourites on the left, it's a way less of hassle to change it.

So why is it that literally anyone I see on this website orders it the other way around?

Maho was great

I actually really liked her too, when I said new characters I was talking about everyone but her.

and the directing, while not as amazing as the original, still needed to be great to pull off some of the scenes that it did.

I really don't know, I feel like the moments that it shines at are so good, it would be pretty damn hard to mess them up. the music also is doing some heavy lifting in making every single scene hit.

I think how bad the directing can be is really obvious on some of the action scenes.

There are also the extremely weird choices like ending half the episodes with fake cliff hangers, or in the very legendary episode 21, skipping the part of his travel back that would have been the most interesting to see.

The directing went from "good enough" to not take away from the scene. and weak. I can't think of a scene that impressed me because of the directing. There are also some continuity errors specially in the scenes of the soldiers showing up.

And there is also one shot of okabe in particular that looks so goofy. It's like an important scene at all, but it has been living rent free in my head for years.

let me see if I can find it:

The more I look at it, the more wrong it looks lol

I also did dig melancholy Okabe, even if many people didn't.

I have problems with 0, okabe is NOT one of them lol

Even if the entire rest of 0 sucked with 0 redeeming qualities, I would still love it for making my all time favourite character even better.

I'm not gonna lie, my score of a 9 definitely has some nostalgia factoring into it. I still don't think I could give it less than an 8 though, it's just got too many amazing moments

It is for me probably one of the hardest shows to give a score to. It's the show that someone could give any score between a 9-4 to, and I would be like, yeah, that's fair.

I don't know of any other show that goes back and forth with it's quality as much as SG 0.

And honestly, 6 is a bit of an exaggeration. Cause it's like a very high 6-low 7.

Like, let's look at it this way, most of 6s are shows that are actually 6s. Steins;gate 0 is a 10/10 that loses a lot of points because of all of the problems I have with it lol

I think the reason I allow myself to give that low of a score is, for me, my favourites list (and extended favourites on the about me thingy) is what I decided to fully base off, how much I like something, and made my score be purely how good I think they are critically. Steins;gate 0 definitely would be in my top 5 favourites, I just didn't put it there, cause I leave only my favourite part of each franchise in it, to kinda represent the whole thing.
APolygons2 Apr 28, 11:17 AM
Same. I had 0 rated as a 10 just under the original when I originally watched it while it was airing. I bumped it down after my recent re-watch, but I still really enjoyed it. What you're saying about peak moments is so true; the return of Hououin Kyouma is one of the best scenes in the entire series. The ending laying out how he set the stage for his past self to reach Steins;Gate is also very cleverly executed.

You know what's funny? the return of Hououin Kyouma is literally the scene that impacted me the most out of any show that I have watched.

And there are like 3 episodes of 0 that I consider a masterpiece.

But I gave it a freaking 6!!!

and I find it funny how for you it went from a 10 to a 9, but for me it went from a 10 to a 6.

Despite the fact that I can sit here and ramble for hours about how much I fucking love steins;gate 0. It's such a weird show, there is so many things that I think it's incompetent at, but it somehow has just as many things that it exceeds at above 99% of other anime.

Like I sit there and think, wow, the directing has taken a massive step down, but holy shit the music is even better. Wow, that episode was terrible and the last 2 minutes of it is so good I'm about to cry.

Why the fuck is farris still a cat girl in war, holy shit Hououin Kyouma is fucking back!!

I'm so tired of these fake out cliff hangers, It literally has one of my favourite endings of any story.

The pacing is so messy, the character interactions are still gold.

the new characters are so uninteresting, and the so called villain was dog shit.... the old cast gets even better with their new developments, and okabe is now officially never going to be not my favourite character....

you see what I mean?

There is so many things that I don't like about it, but so many other things that I would consider "all time best" level good. One scene I'm thinking "what a terrible show" and the next thing it hits me with peak fiction material.
APolygons2 Apr 27, 12:52 PM
You're right about thrillers losing that element when you already know how it goes. My recent re-watch of Steins;Gate (after having already re-watched it once in the past to pick up on details with full context) didn't hit as hard for that reason.

True, Like I have immensely enjoyed every rewatch of steins;gate, and have loved every second of it every time.

but the first time I watched it was an experience like nothing else I have ever seen. It's the most invested I have ever been in any piece of media lol

And sadly, that can't be replicated unless it gets a new entry just as good as the original. 0 actually did it for me cause I watched it right after the original, and I was so invested that I didn't even notice it's short comings. I was also less critical back then which also helped. Originally I liked it just as much as the original. I still think 0 has some of my favourite moments and episodes in any anime, dare I say it's peak is just as good, if not better than the peak of steins;gate, despite now knowing there is a lot of things wrong with it.
APolygons2 Apr 27, 1:52 AM
Would that show just be the same as the anime, but live action? If so, this Odd Taxi one definitely interests me more, it's always super cool when media provide an alternate view with additional context to how mysteries played out.

No it's actually a completely new story that has nothing to do with the manga or the anime except the general premise and concept. It's from the director of Train to Busan, which I haven't seen, but heard a lot of good things about. I'm not expecting it to have the more philosophical elements of the original parasyte, but if it's even half as good of a thriller I'm still going to really enjoy it.

I do really need to re-watch Parasyte though. It's one of my favorite anime too but I haven't seen it since around 2016

I rewatch shows pretty regularly, mostly with a friend that haven't seen it before or because I think some shows are worth rewatching due to you not getting the whole picture. And then there is the obligatory rewatch of the show you don't remember the details in, but there is a new season coming out that you want to watch.

I haven't really rewatched parasyte though, the main reason I LOVE parasyte is how good of a thriller it is, I don't think there is any other anime that had me at the edge of my sit as often as parasyte. And that part of the show is not exactly going to hit the same now that I know how the story goes.

I will probably rewatch it at some point though, right now as far as rewatches go, link click, death parade and lain are the ones I want to go for.

Link click because I haven't seen s2 and wanted to rewatch s1 before it, death parade cause It's literally my second favourite anime that I constantly think about but haven't rewatched it in a few years, and also wanted to potentially make a video about it, and lain because I originally did not get the plot and looked it up on youtube, most of which I have forgotten.
APolygons2 Apr 26, 1:28 PM
I saw that. I will probably check it out at some point.

Though I will say, when it comes to live action series based on anime, I'm actually more interested in watching that parasyte one since parasyte is one of my favourite series.
APolygons2 Apr 20, 3:26 AM
I had posted a comment on my own profile and was wondering why it wasn't showing on here. My IQ is off the charts today lol

APolygons2 Apr 19, 4:05 PM
I do wonder if I could actually like the dub more... For me, that kind of thing is pretty universally untrue. In the past, the only anime I've preferred the dub for are Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy.

I mean it doesn't hurt to try and compare. I just want to make sure you'll get the best possible experience. If you liked the voices in the sub more, obviously go for it!

Did you see the new trailer for Look Back's movie? I'm honestly blown away, I didn't think it would look so beautiful.

I'm even more excited about the movie now. It's got perfect animation in the exact style I love (and accurately brings Fujimoto's style to the big screen) plus the movie could be even greater than the manga due to potentially giving the story more time to breathe.

I have, it looks so good. Kinda makes me wish I didn't read the manga.

I really hope it does well enough to get an international release, I would love to see in in the cinema.
APolygons2 Apr 18, 6:13 PM
Honestly, for cyberpunk there was a lot of things that I wish I got to see but didn't.

I wish they showed at least one or two more missions after david got with the team, it would add to the impact of so much if we as the audience just got to spend a little more time with them.

I wish Maine going pyscho as a concept was introduced at least 1 episode before the episode where it all crumbled down. as it is, it kinda just was the case at the start of episode 6, and then went to the extreme by the end.

There wasn't even hints of it happening earlier, so it felt like it came out of nowhere despite how great the episode itself was.

I wish we got a full episode about lucy's past and how she escaped, instead of it being a 1 minute long exposition.

I mean as you said, the core plot points and execution are so strong that it still managed to have some extremely impactful scenes and moments, but pretty much every aspect of left me wishing there was more to it. From the main group, to the world, to the villains to everything.

Like this is small, but I wish we heard about the legendary Adam smasher a few more times. I loved the fact that he was just this never seen figure that only existed in talks until he shows up out of nowhere, but I feel like just a few more mentions would have made us seeing him for the first time a lot more of a "HOLY FUCK HE'S REAL" moment.

And thank you for the link lmao, I'll be sure to check out the blueray version instead if it's a solid step up. I'll probably watch it really soon tbh.

I mean, the extended final episode aside, you have seen episode 1. and you know the censorship looks like this:

oh also, Don't forget to at least try the dub to see which version you like more
APolygons2 Apr 17, 2:25 PM
Sidenote, while Edgerunners is on my mind, I really think it could have been an easy 9 minimum if it just had maybe 15 to 16 episodes to develop David and his relationship to both the city and the characters a little more gradually.

Honestly I 100% agree with that. I think edge runners was way too short for it's own good. It's not that it didn't function as a story, it's that it could have been so much better if it gave us more time with the characters.

Which honestly I'm surprised I didn't have this exact problem with akudama drive, because it's arguably even more fast paced , but I won't get into why I think it avoids it until you watch it, cause I don't want to set your expectations so high that you'll be disappointed.

Is there a way to watch the blue-ray version you're talking about online? Or did you actually go out and buy the physical blue-rays for it?

I'm broke, so I don't pay for more than one streaming service, and pirate anything else, so I found it from a pirate site that happened to have the blueray version: https://zoroxtv.to/watch/akudama-drive-10op/ep-1

But Honestly, I do want to get into buying the blue-rays of the shows that I REALLY like, purely for the sake of supporting them. And once I get into it, akudama drive is definitely going to be one of the first ones that I buy.

APolygons2 Apr 16, 11:54 AM
Wow, Akudama Drive is really on that level? I've only watched the first episode, but I just had the perception that it seemed like a really fun show.

It is in a lot of ways similar to cyberpunk edge runners. not just because they are both action cyberpunk series, just as a whole they have very similar strengths.

So it is a REALLY fun show, but it also has a lot of heart behind it. What has put it above cyberpunk after my rewatches, is the sheer amount of polish and detail, that has gone into it. like, it's fast paced, but it doesn't feel rushed, it has an interesting world, and fully dives into it with implications, details, and twists, in a way that very few series can replicate.

Honestly, people not apricating how AMAZING the world building is, is a huge reason for why it's so underrated. Most people watch it as this, action fest ride with fun characters, which don't get me wrong, IT IS THAT TOO.

But it's also so much more.

Oh just a heads up, if you wanted to watch it, watch the blue-ray version. It uncensored the violence and has an extended finale that is about 10 minutes longer.

It's also one of those shows where the dub is REALLY good, so I suggest at least comparing the voice of all the characters and seeing which one you like more. Brawler in particular is one of the most perfect castings I have ever seen in the english version lol

All that said, I'm clearly in the minority for thinking the show is THIS good, so you won't necessarily agree with me. Even I didn't agree with me of now back when I first watched it lol
APolygons2 Apr 15, 12:07 AM
It's so nice when you rewatch a show you like and it gets even better.

I just finished my third rewatch of akudama drive because I hadn't seen the blueray version (no censorship, extended finale), and was making a video about and man, I have loved this show more and more with every rewatch.

It started as a high 7 low 8, and over time and after those 3 rewatches, it's a high 9 low 10 to me.

Edit:

The video I was talking about is done, I thought I should post a link here Juuuust in case you were interested:

APolygons2 Apr 8, 1:03 PM
Honestly it being by the author of Bottom tier character was the reason I wasn't counting on it being that good, despite the trailer looking extremely solid.

Well you can't ever go wrong with watching both!

The thing is, unless it's from my favourite genres, I don't really watch multiple similar shows at the same cause I get tired of it.

But I will check this one out, just because I have a soft spot for stand out directing.

I've been trying to watch a few older stuff, and so far it has been super fun! I always loved the look of older anime, so I'm not sure why I hadn't watched more of them before. Probably because you don't hear about them as much for me to constantly think about them.

I watched Royal Space Force, which was incredible. FMA 2003, which I ended up liking even more than brotherhood. Hells, which felt like what I imagine taking drugs like, Like it was the most fast paced, absurdly over the top story I have seen in a very long time. I couldn't take any of the serious moments that seriously, but also wasn't bored for a second. And now I'm 3 episodes into Infinite Ryvius which has been super fun. The hip hop tracks are an odd choice for survival space anime, but still.
APolygons2 Apr 8, 1:51 AM
By the way, I think you should check out Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai / Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. Its first episode just aired and it was the best first episode that I've seen this year (which is a low bar, but still lol). It had some really engaging directing, something interesting was happening in virtually every shot in the entire episode. I wasn't expecting the directing to be like that at all, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the series now

It was on my radar, honestly I'm almost mad it looks good.

I watched the first episode of Girls Band Cry and thought, Oh, I actually really like this. And then comes another girls make music band show that looks even better. Now I'm sitting here wondering, should I watch both, pick one, or anything else in between lol
