Besides that, I would appreciate it if you would take some time out of your day for the sake of sharing your honest thoughts on Aot's ending with me. I'm planning a reread so I thought that you might be able to enlighten me about it.
I am not caught up with berserk… I am only at the conviction arc… I always tell myself to continue but then I start another manga and never actually get around to catch up.
I really like ever17, although there are some aspects that I think could have been done better, the plot twists are amazing. I will probably am not going to play remember 11. Is it any good?
1. Jacopo is a really complex character and unlike michel who is quite straight forward, there is a lot of nuance to his motivations. That said, he has a very strong motivation and in my opinion the most beautiful one out of all the characters in the work.
The key to figure out the motivation and the root for jacopo’s love is in the name of the prequel, “requiem for innocence”. Jacopo’s motivations is Morgana’s innocence. When you think about it, Morgana has a very similar past to jacopo, they both were tainted by the world and the people around them. Jacopo was also sold by his parents when he was young. Or at least abandoned. Jacopo always says that he doesn’t remember his past but we can most certainly infer between the lines that just like he tried to forget his life in the slums he tried to forget the life that he had before the slums. Jacopo sees Morgana, and at the same time himself, victims of the world. When you think about it, almost in all of the interactions with Morgana, Jacopo tries to tell her that she is just an ordinary girl and tries to make her forget the lord, and heal her face marks (the symbol of morgana’s trauma and the world tainting her), which proves my point. When Morgana sings for Jacopo, he says that her voice and the way she sings are different from those people in the slums, that it is untainted by the slums. When Jacopo takes Morgana back to his home after the fallout with ceren, he tells her that she is just an ordinary girl, and proceeds to tell her that he is a wicked individual, that he stole and even murdered, he feels like he is tainted by the world, by the slums, but also tells her that even in the slums the light still shines, which in my opinion he sees Morgana as this light. although at that point in the story I don’t believe he himself recognizes this at that point in time. Jacopo is attracted to Morgana but not in a sexual way, romantic sure, but it is platonic as well. Again, it is because he is attracted to her innocence. He expresses his feelings and the want to protect Morgana from the cruelties of the world by telling her that one day he will “show her the world”, which is a an incorrect way to go about it which he understand in his death and in fragment. Fragment itself is jacopo’s requiem for morgana’s innocence manifested as the whole world of fragment is Jacopo’s regrets and wishes to see Morgana at peace, where nothing can hurt her. There are a lot more instances where we can clearly see jacopo’s motives. All in all I think that jacopo is the most narratively and emotionally powerful character in the work and compliments Morgana as a character perfectly.
2. I personally didn’t find what you said in door 8 revolting or anything, although I don’t like how michel’s dialogue is structured in general that much. It always seems like it is kind of artificial to me, I don’t know.
3. As of episode 8… well of course I believe that it is a genius move by ryukishi07. I don’t believe the guy wanted to truly insult us or anything. I solved the mystery in episode 5 so I only saw it as a thematic tool in the story, a very meta one at that. In my opinion it enhanced the narrative and the story.
4. About RoT, I have also at first read the first like 15 chapters of ravages of time and couldn’t get into it in the beginning of the year, too many locations, too many names, no introduction, the work expects you to know your history. I tried to reread it couple days ago and suddenly I understood everything that is happening because I paid attention again to the names of the characters and such, and once you understand the main characters that they are talking about everything runs smoothly. But it is a very heavy read because of that. If you are able to really read through the first chapters and get to know the characters’ names you will probably really enjoy it. At least I do. If you want you can watch the oversimplified video on YT about the romance of the three kingdoms. It is like 15 minutes long. It makes everything very easier to understand.
5. I don’t play final fantasy. I don’t have the time to play it aswell. I am currently working a very far distance from work so I don’t have the time to invest myself in a long video game. Although the game does look incredible. Also the picture looks really good, I like the character design.
