Man, it's a gag show, but they run with the same gag without any variety at all. And they keep repeating it over and over by changing minor details from a checkboard where they threw together all the "tortures" without thinking too deep about it.
Here is the importance of a comedy or a sketch show like this: It needs to subvert your expectation, and this is the case where it's required. It should lead you on a wrong path while shifting to the punchline that is not obvious for the viewer to make a good joke.
But then the thing is, they kind of try to

do so, but it's very immature and doesn't leave much room for imagination anyway, you ARE expecting the things to happen and they do.
A great alternative show if one haven't watched before would be Sleepy Princess or Maoujou de Oyasumi. And that show is everything this one wants to be and more. It has a logical premise (because this show takes forever to even explain how/why did she get there) and instead of going in circles with the same joke, the PRINCESS in that show actually has her own goals which she accomplishes in creative and actually funny ways. This leads to many interactions between the supporting cast and while creating various scenes they end up light hearted.
MC is pointless as she really has no specific personality to deal with, or any specific character they could play around, the Sword is basically narrating for whatever reason which doesn't exactly bring anything comedic.
Gets the "boring" rating from me and I know for a fact I won't ever remember this one in like an hour.

What a weird show, what a weird story, what a weird conflict. So much effort was wasted on this show and it feels so boring.
We have ninjas who moved from Japan to join up with some evil global elites in order to help them to achieve global domination (because who really cares why) and they produce high tech equipment for their "ninjas" including mecha armor while doing random corpo political bs in the background. OG ninjas had a beef with new ninjas so new ninjas want to kill OG ninjas who are exiles. MC is one of these OG ninjas and he wants revenge, because
...
family.
Apparently been a ninja means been in the open double jumping in the air with a sword, blowing stuff up while wearing a NEON (I kid you not) bright armor. Also been a ninja means been not capable to overcome even a single f-ing obstacle without tripping alarms. Ninjas is when you crowd up with 20 other ninjas in a hallway visible to your enemy.
But really once you figure it out it's just a gore version of Naruto but without any of the fun parts Naruto had.
All the "special" skills you see in the beginning disappear from the show half way in, getting replaced by mecha fighting and more generic bad guys been one shot in the background. Clarity gives way to lots of smoke, probably to draw less scene and backgrounds. The evil guys do their pointless one liners that don't affect the flow of the show or the story and disappear. MC growls about revenge and his sidekicks discuss another stupid plan that will of course FAIL, because their opponents always beat them to it.
Let's crack into their servers because if we have EVIDENCE and.... Ehm.. Upload it somewhere? Surely it will bring down the large corporation that controls politicians globally and influence Agencies of countries. It's such naive nonsense honestly. It feels like half the story and events are only there to bloat the show to fill it to the whole length of a season. Otherwise it could be an average watchable 1.5 hour movie if we drop the rest of bs.
It's so boring to watch, incredible how all this production was wasted on this half-assed sad excuse of a story. Maybe I should start doing god damn scripts for shows as it feels like overall media industry is filled with hacks who can't write to save their lives. But wtf do I expect, the guy was involved with Jujutsu Kaisen which is also braindead in terms of story telling.

Took me by surprise as I haven't expected anything and believe that the title picture of the show is extremely underwhelming.
We had things like "skeleton knights" who hide their identities, that's not a new concept but the way MC becomes one and has to deal with the fact other actually know him is still rather fresh.
It also works with him evolving over time which is a thing Kumo desu ga played around a LOT. This story isn't that in depth but concealment is the main point for MC not the evolutions themselves.
MC isn't a meathead which is as usual a major plus for any show
...
and him doing humane things and behaving as a normal person and not an edgy shonen protag is great, it's as great as Chiling in my 30s', it makes worldbuilding better.
While I was expecting it to be mainly a combat show, it really isn't as the show isn't exactly about him fighting everything that moves.
Production quality is good, the show has a slice of life-ish feel to it, but the pace overall is rather fast and by the end of Season 1 there is a major leap for the MC himself which opens interesting future opportunities for both the MC himself and the plot to move forward. It doesn't feel yet if the story will have any actually dark and dramatic episodes, but IMO it feels appropriate if they had them as a tragic tale of an immortal warrior is something that might as well work. But I believe it's more of a typical from zero to hero story, so there won't be any of that.
Gave it an 8 as it's a much better overall story than most alternatives and Season 2 can be a blast.

An isekai story that is self aware and yet doesn't end up the typical OP main cast thing, which is always nice to have. I think that it's a good enough show above typical in the genre but the pacing is all over the place. The 1/3 is fun with training, introductions and such, 3/3 is fun with peak and outcome of the season, but the mid part of the season drops the ball.
If they fix it next season it can be a better show to watch.
I believe there is potential to grow characters, to have some actual drama and to make it a little
...
less confined to have more characters involved.
I was hoping more to have things like MC breaking his arm with a powerful attack healing it through pain and such, instead of him been capable of blowing up rocks with his fists, but that's on me. I think that would be more interesting overall for the idea of the show with the name it has.

Mashle started better in the first 12 episodes than it ends after the other 12. It's a decent show that can go both ways later, but this half of the season feels lacking in pace, humor and anything to keep me occupied while watching the show.
Sure, there were some fights, the main secret got out of the box now and there was set up for the antagonist and the meta plot.
However it doesn't feel all that impressive at this point.
Mashle felt fun when MC was fooling around with his fake magic, but now they don't really bother anymore with that and it starts feeling one
...
punch man without everything that made one punch man good. The story takes itself too seriously for the overall level absurdity and I would prefer it be more chill.
It took me like 4 days going back and forth at it to finish these 12 episodes and it was borderline passable for me.
I hope they pick up the pace next season, otherwise I will probably drop it at this rate. Gimmick can't keep me for too long.

So, is Frieren objectively the best thing "ever"? No, of course not and in itself the question makes no sense whatsoever, so whenever someone gets upset of the weird notion "it has a higher score than X/Y/Z WHAT?!" it also makes no sense. I will refrain from discussing spoilers or details of the story as I believe it's rather fundamental to unveil it as the story goes on.
Frieren raises up eternal and mundane questions from a stand point of an eternal being that doesn't age, won't die and has no specific reason to exist while also digging into topics of human memory (as a race)
...
and memory in general. It explores the idea of wasted opportunities of the past, lost time that won't return and the clock that keeps ticking forward.
Generally speaking it's setup as a typical old school High Fantasy world which at one point was typical, but today it feels fresh again.
Premise fits well this idea, Frieren joins Hero's party in order to defeat the Evil Lord that nobody before them could defeat since forever and everyone expects them to fail like all those before them, but against those odds, after a long journey they manage to overcome the great evil and return back victorious.
In terms of the world it's not a regular occurrence, basically as the story evolves it explains clearly what sort of impossible task that was.
And so the Era of Peace is upon the world where only remnants of the evil army still exist all thanks to several heroes. Everyone is happy, cheering, statues are raised in their honor yadda yadda.
And afterwards you keep watching as things degrade, change, move on and how significant things become insignificant history lessons and later mythical legends while the world could barely remember the names of heroes of old or won't remember who they are anymore, and the more generations move on the less things get done. It's not anything wild, but the somewhat slow pace of the show fitting the eternal statue of MC and the ever changing world around her do look great.
The topic of aging, of different generations is well done, which works even better with MC been relatively inexperienced in social aspect and kinda dense in this regard who reacts to everything in a somewhat disconnected position, as for her decades of life aren't a big deal to begin with.
Story does play out as a Slice of Life which makes sense, for MC there is no "goal" in sight, while some goal eventually appears before her it's generally still a matter of self exploration rather then "go defeat another evil" where ironically it's clear that some events are going to repeat themselves no matter how many times will you get in the mix. With different names, different places.
They did a good job slowly switching eras in the background as technology advances over time and similar locations aren't that similar anymore.
Stories about eternal beings, vampires, elves, dragons, undead or reincarnated creatures are fun as they explore the dreadful unforgiving topic of time which reminds me of how insignificant our time really is in the world in comparison to more grandiose events.
I did expect it to end in 1 season however, but the later half of Season 1 makes sense if I understand where the author wants to go further.
Absolutely a love/hate series, but it tries significantly harder the most modern anime that we typically get. Gets a 10 from me, I did miss classic fantasy.

A burning dumpster that is over valued and over scored. A tediously slow show, with barely anything going on, with lobotomized characters not willing to produce rational decisions and behaving like morons the whole time. Plot that barely moves as nothing happens, with convenient things happening that change character attitudes in a non-believable way.
It ends up at a point where things are finally conveniently end up in a conclusion while one character wearing a lot of plot armor tells a tale to other characters that randomly proves things in the proper way and everyone keeps digging out helpful clues to prove the theory (literally behind
...
the scenes where you as a viewer never know about any of that).
A crap pseudo intellectual detective show always works in the same manner. It hides any details, it doesn't provide information and it uses convenience and grand piano in the bushes when it needs to move the plot forward or come to a resolution.
Actual detective stories show glimpse of information and details that a viewer may notice, miss or misinterpret and by the end the correct outcome is explained which logically makes sense. A smart or attentive viewer will have a logical conclusion therefor leaving the movie with a pleasant feeling of either staying correct or missing minor points and being wrong in the end.
What this story is, nothing more than a joke, and an annoying joke at that.
The only thing that is worth mentioning is that VA for the male protagonist, who has a huge list of characters she worked on and her male performance is quite impressive.
Quality is mediocre low budget, there is no interesting OP/ED, CG is shit.

Ironically good as a story that is not edgy, over the top, not about overpowered characters and not ecchi. I know I know, a shocker.
Despite the "status, skills" things and the premise of Isekai it feels more like a typical fantasy which is actually a good thing. MC doesn't get anything special going on for him and doesn't have any superpowers at any moment of the story and basically is just stubborn which helps him in the long run to overcome his lack of ability. In this regard it's a good slow burn story to follow along that culminates by the end of the season.

you think about it, somewhat resembles Faraway Paladin that most people didn't like while it was an enjoyable show to watch.
Production shows the lack of budget, but they didn't use any ugly ass CG so the quality doesn't jump around like turtle from shield hero or I'm a spider.
Story starts off relatively slow by focusing on MC trying to get actually useful at anything until he gets involved in some of the underlying world issues. Nothing that hasn't been done before, but it has adequate progression. Some of the gags might get repetitive, like the whole joke with Substance x.
I would watch S2 if it ever appears.

It had a fun premise and I have no problem with Harem genre, but man is it a snooze fest to watch. If it had stronger comedy overall it could possibly solve some of the issues the story has, but beyond the mediocre gags that miss timing it actually keeps somewhat serious about the whole premise. It tries into lots of intimacy scenes and while fun at first it gets tiresome when his girlfriends (as promised) multiply and it gets ridiculous.
Writing is atrocious and it could be enough if this ended up being hentai or ecchi, at least then it would make total sense. But
...
all the kissing and hugging and the flushing and the kissing over and over without substance is honestly boring to watch.
What is the problem I find with the show? There is no "conflict". If MC had to jungle with his time in order to keep his infinite gfs happy or hide the fact that he has a harem from them until at least a certain point, could make it in general funnier and would create possibilities for comedic moments.
Them making out in broad daylight like that isn't fun. Also it completely ignores the social environment like it doesn't exist (one of the things Nagatoro did well).
Another case of a show getting huge acclaim all over while in reality been a very boring product and not even a good enough parody.

In the end Overtake ended up not what I originally expected it to be and ironically it was for the best.
We have only just got an MF Ghost anime that clearly showed that cars go vroom without an idea isn't interesting to follow (where as in Initial D there was always an idea). Overtake takes an entirely different approach. It tells a story from an outsider's perspective who learns of F4 by chance and how both Main Characters each with his own problems came together to overcome their own ghosts (pun intended) and come on top each in their own regard.
Kouya a professional photographer who
...
gets interested in F4 by chance is dealing with ghosts of his past that haunt him preventing him from escaping the personal trauma he has. The whole sequence of his background when actually explained and shown later in the show I feel was very strong and directed on a level that you can feel personally. The way his story goes on is cruel unforgiving and sounds like something I heard about in real life.
Haruka a young teenager has his own set of problems that gets resolved eventually through his bond with Kouya and some of the scenes involved were also done very nice. As a son of a racing driver he is trying to get by in F4 with the help of a team ran by a friend of his family with limited budget.
I enjoyed the simple, clear and correct explanation on why is it that in Spec series one teams will dominate while others will struggle. I believe for those who have no knowledge it does a good job in this regard. As someone trying to get into autosport in the past I can vouch for the troubles they portrait they are universal. It's really one of the stories where it's believable enough to say they did it barely as a team and it felt nice as a healing story to see a good ending for a change unlike it usually is in real life.
Overtake also doesn't create a false drama for the sake of it, or false unhealthy sportsmanship instead making it a more life like relationship characters have as sportsman and it translates well to actual pro racing drivers and how their relationships continue throughout their career.
Overtake isn't a show about cars going around the track, but it's more about autosport than MF Ghost could hope to be. Not for everyone, but it was for me on a personal level.
