so that girl is the daughter of the demonic sect's leader. and maybe the demonic sect isn't bad? maybe the mc's "truth" sect is actually hiding some terribly misdeeds they committed in the past?

something about his wood staff thing being a demonic sect treasure

also, that little candied pumpkin girl and her grandfather were pretty good. she was kind of adorable. mc is on his way to danger, teaming up with some buddhist monk to take on a fox demon spirit thing

Like the leader said, how do you define good & evil? Is it good when you kill an evil person? But then how do we decide a person who's good or evil? Sure some are easily categories but not all are so easily categories. Like Bi Yao's mother, the good sect says it's to slay evil but can they prove that Bi Yao who was a child then as evil? Or are they simply grouping her as evil simply because of her parents?

So far, mc is simple minded but I don't think its abnormal given his circumstances. Lost his family in childhood , then grew up in a kind teacher's family surrounded by genuinely loving senior brothers and sisters. Thus mc lacks basic cunnings, trickery and is always morally upright.
The demonic sects leader seems like a devilish handsome guy, trying his best to derail mc.

@ixarising The leader's sayings reminded me of Reverend Insanity novel. It was banned in China, but it's a wonderfully written novel of cultivation genre. In R.I. mc is above good & evil , neither godly nor devilish, though his actions can be interpreted as anti-social, thus got banned. To f with China's censorship, f.ers made my fav. novel "hiatus" for life.
