Honestly I went into Yuri!!! on Ice with not too many expectations. I do love my sports manga/anime from time to time. I didn't expect the yaoi/gay themes here but it was a pleasant surprise and well done in many aspects.
STORY
The set up is pretty fun. Here's our main character, Yuri, whose literally hit rock bottom. A video of him performing one of Victor's routine is uploaded to Youtube which catches the eye of his idol, someone who brought him into the world of competitive ice skating in the first place. And Victor is both charming and totally on his own pace. He drags others
...
along with with him and Yuri (main) and Yuri (rival) are no different. It takes us through Victor helping Yuri to achieve his goals and redeem himself to the world of competitive ice skating and most importantly himself.
Some things that become a little repetitive are those routines (but I understand they (the studio) has to consider the cost of creating new routines, working to draw them, and the soundtrack for it. But man, after the 5th time, it loses its newness. Also, sometimes Yuri's lack of self-confidence drives me a little nutty but it's a lot better than some other animes (Hitman Reborn).
ART
The art is well drawn. Victor is of course a total hottie, as is Yuri sans glasses. Also, the ice skating portion was done extraordinarily well.
SOUND
The soundtrack was well done, especially for the ice skating routines.
CHARACTERS
I liked all the characters. More/differing growth for Yuri would be great. And I'd like to see that Yuri can actually soar without the help of Victor for once. And what's Victor's deal? What's his past like? We never really learn what drives Victor. And we know what drives Yuri but in a very shallow way.
Character development definitely could've been better.
And I agree with some of the other reviewers here. The anime hinted at some gay themes and always hinted at the nature of Yuri and Victor's relationship. Even Chris (another ice skater) has very sexual themes that hint at his sexual orientation (so suggestive!) but nothing is ever outwardly declared.
There's even a scene with pairing rings for Yuri and Victor, talk of engagements and marriage but with no true seriousness. I really would have loved to see that here. I felt like they deserved it as a couple and it would have been amazing to see.
ENJOYMENT
I enjoyed it at a lot. There were also loads of comedic moments. Even other side characters (Minako-sensei, the three triplets, Chris, etc) were so great to see on screen.
I also went in not expecting anything and really came away with a great sense of enjoyment. I was sad to see the final episode and so glad to hear there's going to be follow-up movie!
OVERALL
I'd totally recommend it. In fact, many reviewers here and elsewhere have recommended watching it. It's honestly a fun watch. And reading doujinshis after the fact is fun just to see the actualization of some VictorxYuri fantasies, hah.

Okay, first off, I'm a huge zombie + apocalype + end of the world trope fan. So this type of story hits me in a sweet spot. We start off the story at high school, where the zombie apocalypse breaks out and we follow the main character and his group of friends through their efforts to survive the new world.
Though I'm not a huge fan of harem type anime or manga, I really actually liked the story. I liked the main character Takashi and I felt like he had depth to him. Out of all the girls out of his harem, I disliked Rei the
...
most. She's just so... self-righteous. Plus, she was dating his best friend Hisashi. I don't know, not much love for her. And definitely my favorite female lead was Saeko-senpai because she has some darkness inside her and she's crazy cool. But I guess that says it all that I enjoyed the character development that came up in the series.
Art is definitely pleasing though be warned, panty and boob shots are EVERYWHERE. Definitely a crowd pleaser for some.
Good soundtrack and the voice actors are really great as always.
Definitely a fun and action-packed anime to watch. I reallllllly hope for a second season. In the mean time, I'm anxiously reading the manga chapters (whenever those come out).

Okay, not going to lie, this was one of the first animes I ever watched (thanks Toonami!).
And to this day, it's still one of my favorites. I've even rewatched it several times.
True to the Gundam series, its full of political maneuverings every where. Friends become enemies, enemies become friends, and sometimes you just feel like you want to tear out your hair because things change so fast.
My favorite part about it was the characters, in particular Heero Yuy. Of course, Heero Yuy. I came to dislike Relena more and more because she just got more and more annoying to be as time went along
...
but I will say I enjoyed the romance of it all.
The other Gundam pilots were also wonderful.
The art was great for it's time and I still enjoy it.
I also love the soundtrack and love the voice actors/actresses. Both subbed and dubbed versions! (which I NEVER say as I'm a true believer of subs only, no dubs). And of course, I know the theme songs to this day.
Haha, maybe it's the starry-eyed love of the past and an ever-lasting crush on Heero but I'd always continue to recommend this anime. Also, I haven't been able to watch any of the other Gundam series so I'm sure other people have their likes and dislikes. Just my two cents, haha.

Aaaannnd the lovely second season with Onoda-chan and co.
This finishes the Inter-high arc. We continue exactly where we left off in season 1 (not much cliffhanger issue for me because by the time I re-started watching Yowamushi Pedal season 1, season 2 was already out and completed) and finishes the Inter-high match completely.
This season was a real pleasure for me. As I said in my review of the first season, I enjoy the racing scenes the most so meeting more rivals and seeing them go head to head was a real pleasure for me.
Some things with Onoda gets too repetitive but(!) as this season spells
...
out how the rest of the Inter-high competition goes, I was pretty wrapped up in the entire season.
What is fun is learning about Midousuji. Not gonna lie, that guy is kimoi. But learning about his back story too is interesting.
Onoda's growth and the relationships he has between his other members is what really shines here. You really do become invested in them. And I was actually holding my breath watching each episode with excitement (as I hadn't read the manga yet so I had no idea of the outcome). And Minami is a total bishie so it makes this season even better (as this season focused a bunch on Minami and Onoda together.
Heh.
Anyways, musically and stylistically the same as last season. Great music which suits every mood perfectly.
Honestly by the end of this season, I immediately ran to find more anime or manga.
I'll definitely be following up with this series in whatever way I can.

Oh, the story of the underdog.
Onoda is a total otaku that finds his true calling as a road racer climber. Through his high school bike club, he meets friends and rivals, and begins his journey as a road racer.
I particularly love shounen sports manga because they are so much fun. And there is something to be said about an underdog to comes out on top. You can't help but hope and pray they make it. And yes, part of the enjoyment is finding out how they do it.
2/3 of the first season sets the stage: we find out how Onoda is dragged into this world
...
and his training as a road racer. We begin to meet rivals and friends and see subtle moments where Onoda's mysterious power as a climber come out. The last 1/3 begins the Interhigh competition and I enjoyed this part the most. We've got interesting characters and rivals, some flashback moments delving into character backgrounds (but personally, I enjoy the racing action more). Also, (and this is the problem with most cowardly underdogs) I got a little annoyed at Onoda sometimes. Grow some more and man up! I do hope that story-wise, Onoda will learn from his mistakes and they wont play the catch up game so much any more.
In terms of road racing in general, I feel like this anime does a great job of explaining that sport, what each different type of racer does, and how to work as team in a road racing tournament. Not that I knew anything about road racing before. But now I can say I know what a climber does, what a sprinter does, so on and so forth. And I have to say that is something I have come to expect from a good shounen sports manga/anime especially if it's about something I'm unfamiliar with. By the end, I should have learned all the rules and details of the game/sport and enjoyed learning about it.
The art style and music raises the excitement during race scenes. The art style in particular adds to the action scenes, color, slants, emanating waves of bursts of power. It definitely has an edge over another road racing anime, Overdrive, in this respect. Sometimes though, the action effects might get a little over the top but thankfully, not to the extent that Prince of Tennis does (yes, I love PoT too but come on guys, Cyclone Smash?). The music and voice actors are also well chosen.
My absolute FAVORITE episode? Episode 33 - "You Are the Princess" / "Hime nano da" / ヒメなのだ
Oh my god. I have not laughed so much in a while. Tadakoricchi's face here. The Hime song. Everything put together had me laughing hysterically.

Oh my, I cannot say enough good things about this anime.
I actually watched the anime first before reading the manga; I watched it, fell in love, and had to find out if there was more so went a-searching (lucky for you all, the manga is continuing... I am desperately waiting for a second season but until then, I read on!).
First and foremost, this falls under the horror category, and it is spectacular in that aspect. It is one of the only anime (that I could find) that focuses on paranormal research in the aspect that you might see on TV (Ghost Hunters, Destination Truth, etc
...
(think Ghostbusters!)) but with a true horror, chill-down-your-spine feeling to it.
The anime, like the manga, is split into a few episodes that span over specific cases the company encounters. And let me tell you, there were two cases in particular that did NOT let me sleep well at night.
The story is case-based, meaning, the anime focuses on the cases that come through to the Shibuya Psychic Research Company. Only near the end of the anime do you begin to learn more of the main characters' background story.
Normally, I would like more character development but what is special in this anime is that the cases are so interesting, you get wrapped up in each episode. There are also moments of light, comedic moments that make you laugh but the chill factor with the episodic villains (the paranormal ghoulies) temper that comedy perfectly. You finish an episode and want to turn on the light (that tells you, you have a good horror story in your hands). I also like that we learn about the characters through their interactions with each other than back-flashes to the past or something like that.
The art is great and lets face it, there are many bishies in this one (Kazuya FTW). The music though is one of my favorites. The opening theme was so good, I have the OST now. Both the opening and ending themes give you a perfect creep factor that lingers after any episode. Also, the sound effects for those scare moments really get to you. If you get the doll or Urado episode, good luck. Scared me out of my damn mind (every time I watch it!).
I love a good horror story. And this is actually my hands down favorite horror animes. I love that it's different from all the others. For this anime, it's not a gore factor that makes it scary, it's the thought behind it, the story behind the horror, and that makes me love it all the more.
Watch it. You'll love it. And you'll stalk the manga while waiting for an announcement for a hopeful second season (we really need more manga for that, really....).

Synopsis: Hikaru stumbles upon an old Go board that is haunted by a ghost named Sai. Prompted by Sai's request, Hikaru begins playing Go and meets Touya, his eventual rival.
Hikaru no Go is one manga/anime series that I will always, always love no matter what. To begin with, it was one of the first shounen mangas I ever read then subsequently watched the anime. To this day, I'll still say that both the manga and the anime is worth the time to read and watch (I try to always read the original work first before watching any adaptions).
In terms of content, HnG had some great
...
character development, for our hero and the side characters as well. In the world of Go, finding friends, facing rivals, working through relationships, and so on, is such a pleasure. I'm pretty sure that for most readers and watchers, they aren't familiar with Go or can make any sort of initial connection to it. But that is what makes HnG so special. It takes a completely different and unknown subject and connects the readers and watchers through the characters. You, as the audience, become invested in the characters; their wins and losses, their troubles, and their connection to each other through Go.
What I also enjoyed immensely (and this is what I love so much about shounen manga/anime in general) is the style/art development. Most of the time, especially with the shounen genre, the mangaka will have a (hopefully) long series with unending chapters. Unsurprisingly, you will find that mangaka's art changes, develops, gets better and sharper throughout the chapters. This occurs within the manga and also therefore within the anime. And I wont lie: I like eye-pleasing art and this mangaka's art definitely suits me.
The musical track to the anime was well suited. It made moments full of unbelievable tension or incredible humor shine. And the voice actors (Japanese only (I never watch dubbed anime, personal preference), and yes, super important) were incredible in their roles. They matched their characters exactly!
Bottomline: the story will capture you until you, like me, will regret when the adventure is over.
