This Japanese' animated interpretation of Puss 'n Boots reminds me of classic Walt Disney movies: I know exactly what it's going to end, but that doesn't take away the enjoyment.

There are a few animated sequences that are nothing short of virtuosic, such as the chase across castle parapets, or Pero's fantasy about the female cat. They can really hold candles to today's animation.

Design wise, this antiquated movie has better character design than any animes that feature anthropomorphic animals I've seen. It's no wonder why Pero is still used as Toei Animation's mascot.

Wondering what's so great about a show with zero character development featuring cute girls playing music nonchalantly ? Let me tell you why:

- Their music is great. The lyrics are immature and shallow, but that's to be expected given the girls' age. The good thing is that the melodies more than make up for the childish lyrics. At the very least, their playing is good even for profession bands.

- There is zero character development, and sometimes I'm vexed at the girls' non-serious attitude towards music. However, not everyone who plays music aspires to perform at Nippon Budokan, so their attitude is realistic. What's more, their ...
