I have an affinity for beautifully tragic anime/manga, and I believe that the reason why I liked Watashitachi so much is because it gave me the same vibe as that of Hotarubi. After each anime, I was rendered rather speechless and mute or the next two weeks or so as I ponder over the short taste of heaven and hell contained in these small packages. In both stories, two unlikely characters stumble upon each other and, before even falling in love, already knew that someday, the two of them will be parted. Thus began the journey to make every meeting count, since they can't met everyday and in the process, inevitably, or, as I would like to say, tragically, falls in love. The ending I would like to keep under wraps, but for those of you that had read or seen either one, you can see the direction I'm heading towards.

The two are actually more similar than one might expected. Both have a light and sometime occasionally humorous feeling of adventure. They are both what I would like to call the No Kills anime, in which all the main character or the friendly people associated with the protagonists never dies, and only the bad guys are crossed off the list. Both are on an adventure to discover the truth of something, and both include hints of romance. There are also different groups competing with each other, and the world is also magical with professions such as magicians and such.

Talking about all four of the natsume seasons as a whole. Very very similar feelings, in a good way, in which almost every episode is the beginning of a new issue, with some issues extending on to later episodes and so on. Natsume in contrast focuses more on friendship than hyouka, and includes romance, but not directed toward the main character. Both main male characters undergo significant maturation and mental changes, and both anime leave you with an oddly satisfied and happy feeling after each issue is concluded.

Tears, tears, tears, and more tears. Both have ethereal and bittersweet romance, Although settings are a bit different, one is school and a TV show, thus more time to develop, while hotarubi is a movie, but trust me, a beautifully worded and animated one. Not for people who want happy ever afters, although tragedies can also be beautiful in their own ways.
