You may be the first person I've seen online actually defend Ash Ketchum. If the games didn't exist, he would get a lot less shit because we compare him to our own characters, who quickly become nigh invincible Mary Sues. However, even in his own world he isn't NEARLY the best trainer and he's been the MC for 12 years. It would be like in DBZ if Goku stayed at Yamcha level skill for the entirety of the series and was good compared to the average person, but a joke compared to the elite of his own world.
1. Ash has never even qualified for the Elite Four and hasn't beaten a single elite four member of ANY region, let alone a champion.
2. Ash uses STUPID strategies like using thunder on his own Swellow, which somehow makes it stronger due to pure bullshit and bad writing.
3.Ash frequently teaches kids the wrong strategies for playing the game by ignoring type advantage and fainting ground types with electric due to pure bullshit!
4. Ash cheats to get half his gym badges. He once somehow got a badge because a wild pokemon that he didn't even catch, made the gym leader laugh!
5. Ash regularly gets his ass kicked by people he has ZERO business losing to. He lost to a level 5 Snivey with a level 100 Pikachu. That shouldn't even be possible, but Ash sucks so hard he made it possible!
6. He has never caught a single legendary. Not one.
7. His pokedex completion ratio and attempts to "catch them all" are pathetic. This would be fine if he had a small team that could actually battle and win, but he can't do that either. Tobias is a great collector and zoologist. Cynthia is a master strategist and historian. Ash is the Dan Hibiki of Pokemon.
