The first season of Baki the Grappler focuses on the childhood life of our main hero, Baki Hanma, who is an energetic and a hard headed 13-year-old boy who loves to fight. Day and night he actively searches for any strong opponents from professional boxers, war veterans, monsters to gang leaders etc.
Baki 's reason for his hunger for fighting and to be strong is his father Yujirou. Yujirou is portrayed as the best fighter in the world, he is a scary and intimidating monster man who is almost something non-human because of his strength and brutality (he can frickin stop earthquakes with his fist).

He is the main driving force for Baki to seek more strength and power. Baki's mother, Emi Akezawa, is a lady who is obsessed to Yujirou. She kinda loves Yujirou more than their own son and does everything to satisfy Yujirou. She trains Baki to be a strong fighter fit to be Yujirou's son as per Yujirou's request. BothYujirou and Emi have their own interesting back stories.
The fighting is good and no "aura's" (e.g. Nen, Ki, Hamon etc.) in here. Just pure brawling, grappling, wrestling, kick-boxing, karate, boxing and other real disciplines of martial arts. The strength of this characters however are mind bending and somewhat unreal. For example is Baki who is only 13 years old, there are no 13 year olds who possesses a body like that and can beat up bigger juiced up humans and monsters alike. But it is entertaining nonetheless, without their almost supernatural strength, Baki wouldn't be as epic as it is. The 1st half is a street fighting inclined while the 2nd half focuses more on a tournament.
Animation is good but not consistent. Sometimes you'd drool from the great fighting scenes where each panel was drawn to (not perfection) but atleast above average and the animation was so fluid, and sometimes you'd be disappointed by the other fights where they looked like they were drawn by some lazy amateurs. But it was all manageable to watch anyway so I had no problem with it. Sound is okay, I like the background sounds and they fit each scenes.
Overall, Baki is as entertaining as any fighting anime. It's hard to get bored watching a 13 year old boy with epic monstrous strength beat up bigger, badder foes with monstrous strength of their own. He also beats up non-living things and animals and its fun seeing him wreak havoc. It's not all mindless action though, you'll also enjoy some heartwarming back stories here and there. I recommend this to anyone specially those fans of the fighting genre.

Asura is a dark and twisted anime movie based on a controversial 1970 Japanese film of the same title. At first glance, it would look like a movie full of mindless violence catering for people who enjoy watching those horrific stuff. It would put off some people because of the gore and violence (these scenes would appear immediately right off the start of the movie). I managed though because these kinds of movie are right up my alley and I consider the scenes in this movie as somewhat "mild violence". Anyway, behind the killings and the blood fountains portrayed in this movie lies a message

that was strongly delivered.
The setting is 15th century Kyoto. Kyoto at that time was almost like a wasteland due to floods, drought and famine. Enter Asura. Yep, you guessed it, Asura is the main character of this movie called Asura. He is a savage, a monster, a cannibal, a murderer and a beast. You would think he's evil from watching the first parts of the movie. The reality is he is just a child who was forced to learned by himself the hard-way on how to survive and to protect oneself. He is completely devoid of any morals since he grew up in the wilds. You'll see at the beginning of the movie how tragic his birth is.
Along his journey into the world of humans, he will meet a mysterious Monk (who frickin kicks butt) and a kind girl known as Wakasa. He and the monk will meet multiple times by chance and the monk will teach him how to fight the beast inside his heart. Wakasa is kinda like his mother who will provide him the warm love and affection that he never received since being born. She will teach him how to be a normal boy. These two will be his guiding light towards the path of change. Of course, before reaching that goal he will have to come through a lot of tragedies, deaths and painful stuff. (T_T)
The art of this 3D animation movie (which looks like it's a cross between 2D and 3D) is okay, though a think a lot will hate it because it's not exactly the beautiful 3D art the most are accustomed to. But if you acknowledged that this is Asura's unique style just like I did then you will enjoy the movie a lot more. Movements are fine and fluid though sometimes the characters look weird but that's because they purposely created Anime-ish characters that has unreal body proportions. But it's OK. One thing about this 3D style though, I honestly believe that if Asura had a 2D version (real anime) instead of this then it'll be a lot more gory. The Sound is okay too. Nothing outstanding but nothing bad either.
Overall, this movie was good. Indeed it can be hard to watch at times but the character development of someone like Asura is very unique. You don't see any characters like this which is realistically portrayed. He kills people, even innocent children and has this murderous wild instincts (you don't usually see any MC like this in any anime). The driving forces for watching this film is Asura's harsh and cruel journey into the human world and his dramatic development into being someone more human. The movie is has actions and a lot of drama (real drama!) If you can handle watching gore, violence, dramatic/tragic stuff, and you don't mind the art style then I have to recommend this to you. If your'e a happy person who don't want to feel sad or horrified then don't. (but seriously i recommend this for everyone!)

Minori Scramble is something I downloaded and kinda ignored for more than 2 years (sitting on my downloads folder with tons of other neglected anime). I was expecting a nonsense (plotwise) and not-entertaining-enough anime. Well, I was correct for the nonsense plot, but it was quite entertaining and will give you some good laughs. It is a pure comedy show with cute characters and tons of penguins. Minori, our main character, is scared of penguins (though her parents aren't, specially his penguin obsessed Otou-san). His dad then proceeds to make a weird half-penguin, half-loli child, all android thing that will help cure her fear towards

the cute creatures. I admit I was kinda freaked out at the start by the android being able to switch it's head between scary penguin and cute child by literally twisting its head, I was also scared by the cute penguins appetite for a lot of live lobsters, and the child having a small penguin body doesn't look normal and bothered me too. Anyway, it is a crazy ride, with crazy characters that has good jokes here and there to keep you watching for 38 minutes.

Aquarion Evol is not just a plain mecha anime. Aquarion Evol is a mecha and an over-the-top cheesy romance anime. This series is a sequel of "Genesis of Aquarion" but you need not watch the first series to understand the plot since both were set on different eras.(about 12,000 years apart). When i first started watching it i expected a serious mecha (I haven't watched the original series) i had no idea it would be an exaggerated love story.

mentioned in this series. Characters are overly melodramatic, they always shout and their emotions are always exaggerated. The plot is about a young male named Sora Amata. Sora Amata is a fanatic of a movie called "Skies of Aquaria" and always spends time alone in an old theater watching it. (There is a reason behind this fanaticism which i won't spoil).One day, after finishing the movie again and was about to clean the theater, he was taken by surprise when he saw that he wasn't alone. There he met a girl named Mikono Suzuhiro and it was Love at first sight!! Now Sora Amata has the special power to "fly" or levitate. Funny thing is he levitates whenever he gets excited or scared. To cut the story short, Abductors came and tried to abduct Mikono. The earth defenders who flying ships called "vectors" came and tried to defeat the Abductors but failed. Somehow, Sora with his levitation power, accidentally boarded an aquarion (with Mikono). Sora's vector, by pure chance, combined with two other vectors piloted by Zessica Wong and Cayenne Suzuhiro which then formed Aquarion Evol, which then proceeded to beat the abductors. The two joined NEO-DEAVA an academy for teenagers with Elemental Powers (Sora's Levitation is an Elemental Power). NEO-DEAVA's purpose is to defend the world from the abductors. Students of the academy are also the ones who pilots the vectors. Now the story revolves around love and the battle between the academy and the abductors.
There are a ton of characters here, and i'm happy to say that most of them aren't flat or one dimensional, a bunch of eccentric ones. Each student has their own weird and unique elemental power, from Sora's Levitation, Cayenne's Prophecy to Andy Hole's dig or hole creating power. The good stuff about aquarion is that nobody is left out, each had their own time to shine, each have their own romance problem, whether it was a love triangle ,unrequited love, forbidden love, love between abductor and earthling, and even destined love reborn through reincarnation. This makes the series entertaining to watch, watching the interaction between each characters.
The Art is definitely good, the animation of the characters is consistently good and I love the colorful style. The 3D for the mecha is quite awesome too, it's colorful and vivid, and the way they presented those over-the-top fighting scenes and special moves are a thing of beauty, really an eye candy. The special attacks of the aquarion (born from the different trio combinations of element users) are fun to watch.
Now the plot is thick, not complex but a lot of things are going on, from the characters (tons of them) and even the enemies. The enemies aren't your one dimensional bad guys, there's a reason they're doing the abductions, and the show really did a good of job of showing the viewers the "other" side or the issues of the Alteans/Abuctors. (Abductors are some form of aliens from a planet called Altea "Altair" who comes to earth and abducts females). Now the acting may be cheesy and exaggerated but it never became annoying, it was quite entertaining to watch, it's like your typical heroes in RPG games who would be over melodramatic. The soundtrack is amazing too! just like the over dramatic lines the soundtracks are over the top and are one of the best that i have ever heard in an anime. Good vocals and a lot of beautiful instruments, not your typical anime pop or rock song. The sound effects works quite well with the grand visuals too. You can tell that Aquarion Evol isn't trying to be some serious mecha, but stands firmly with it's unique style, which was effective and was genuinely really entertaining. I seriously recommend this to anyone, except those not interested in love stories It has a lot of quality mecha battles to offer too and you'll never get bored with this one.

Arve Rezzle is as short anime OVA that is part of the 2013 Young Animator Project. Young Animator Project is an annual project, which started from 2010, that aims to develop young Japanese animators so as to avoid outsourcing from other countries. Arve Rezzle is set in 2022, in a futuristic and dystopian city of Okinotorishima Mega-Float City (OMFC for short) Our protagonist is a young male named Remu. Remu has a little sister named Shiki who lives and studies in an academy in OMFC.

screen is not the real Shiki, nor the voice he hears is just produced by a program. Shiki then proceeded to show herself in a plant like state, enclosed by a semi-liquid stuff called a body pool. She explains that the Body pool is an Academy project where people who uses it, don't need to eat, drink, sleep or even use the toilet. People who use body pool, with the help of nerual linked nanomachines, are able to connect to an online network (w/c explains how she can skype with her brother.) Now a major indicent called Early Rupture occured, where thousands of users of the body pools sustain brain damage. This is where Remu decides to go to OMFC and get her sister back.
The Plot is pure Sci-fi, it has great setting and mood. Only problem with the plot is it has many gaps and it kinda force feeds lots of things to the viewer (it is mainly due to the lack of time, only 20 mins for this OVA) The art is beautiful in its own right but the animations aren't that fluid and are almost always still (what you'd expect from a low budget anime.) Overall, as a project from young animators, it was pretty okay but if you judge it as a normal anime it still lacks a lot of things.

Area no Kishi is a sports anime about soccer. It is an average show, sometimes episodes are entertaining and sometimes they are boring too. Nothing really outstanding but it also has nothing to make it a bad show. Area no Kishi is about our young siblings Kakeru Aizawa and Suguru Aizawa. Suguru Aizawa is the older brother and is an upcoming football star. At age 15 he is already heralded as japan's savior, he also one of japan's U-15 (under 15) representatives. Kakeru, the otouto, on the other hand lacks motivation and eventually quits playing after a game accident involving him and someone getting injured.

Instead he aims to be a top football manager. Nana Mishima a.k.a "Seven" is our third protagonist, she is a female football who played in the same team as the Aizawa brothers when they were still young, she eventually moved to America. Suguru and Kakeru trains hard to be a great player and club manager respectively. However, Suguru, being the old brother, knows Kakeru's potential and he wanted Kakeru to someday play with him as national representatives. A "Road Accident" however will change things, which will kick-start the real story of Area no Kishi.
The show revolves around football matches, training and some few other things (Typical sports anime). Some character development (w/c is essential to sports animes) here and there. There are a lot of characters (another obvious thing for sports anime specially football ones). The show alternates it's focus between the Enoshima FC (the main protagonist team) and the Nadeshiko Japan (Japan's National Female Team).
One good thing about Area no Kishi is that it sticks to reality, it never had those special-makes-no-sense-but-looks-cool moves that most Sports anime today possess which i kinda liked. I don't really know a lot of football (I'm a hardcore basketball man like Sakuragi) but i learned some things from the show, some strategies and basic stuff from the sport are shown (though i'd really like more in-depth stuff.) The show also kinda made me wanted to play soccer for a bit. Besides the typical sports anime elements, the jokes (comedy is also an essential for successful sports titles) are at most times not really that funny which makes it a bit less entertaining sometimes. The art is okay, though sometimes it looks bad. Nothing special about the music, it kinda lacked music if you asked me. Overall, it's an average anime, there will be no real sense of completion in watching this anime since nothing really happened big in the ending (sort of needs a season 2). If you love soccer, or sports in general then give it a try.

I myself have never watched or played any of those before I watched this movie. .hack//Beyond The World is set on 2024 and our protagonist is a young girl named Yuuki Sora. The World is a virtual reality online game that they play through an app downloaded to phones and with the help of a "face mount display" (sunglasses) that users wear they are able to experience the virtual reality. When curiosity won and Sora finally tried playing the game, she was amazed by the surreal fantasy world and all the beautiful avatars(or Mascot, Player Characters) inhibiting it. However, immediately upon entering the world, she had an encounter on viruses that hid behind the beautiful facade of this world. These viruses are soon to be a threat not only to the virtual world but also to the real world.
The plot is kinda straight forward and full of cliche story writing, but it is still entertaining nonetheless. Action fights look really good, the virtual world wasn't explored much (due to time restrictions of a movie which is about exactly 2 hours) but they still tried their best to present stuff about the world and the game. Besides the actions scenes and role playing game side, we are also offered a love triangle between our trio. The art is beautiful, a mix between 3D and Anime style 2D for the characters looked very good, the backgrounds are gorgeous and well detailed (specially the structures and the ships). The actions scenes are nice and beautiful to watch (plenty of cool looking special effects). Music is also good (specially the ones near the end which truly gives you that cinematic feel), plenty of good background music. Overall, the movie is decent, if your looking for something beautiful and entertaining to watch which is free from a very complicated plot, then this is for you.

The plot was okay, it was again complex and well made, but not a masterpiece. While the First movie focused on the issues of the co-existence of Humans and Bioroids (Artifical Humans who can't feel anger nor hatred) this time the movie focused on the vulnerability of our cyborg friends through mind control. It was stated by the enemies in the film that mind control can erase individuality which will then eliminate, again "self-will", which is the root of greed, anger and other bad stuff. Tereus' introduction also stirs up things for the relationship of Deunan and Briareos, specially when Briareos was replaced by him as Deunan's new partner. The art is a lot better that the first film (should be because they were about 3 years apart.) The 3D graphics is extemely good, detailed and more beautiful. The whole film is a great eye candy. If you liked the first film and you like sci-fi or just plain 3D movies, im sure you'll love this sequel.

Appleseed is a sci-fi anime based on a manga of the same name which was written by the "Ghost in the Shell" author Shirow Masamune. A global war has just ended and the world is left as a big wasteland. Deunan Knute, our main heroine, is a very skilled soldier who participated in the global war. Having no knowledge that the war was already over, she was still fighting (with fellow fighters) against androids trying to survive on ruins of what was once cities.

like artificially created humans that were based on the DNA of Deunan's Father, Carl, effectively making them clones. She was taken to an advanced city called Olympus, Olympus is a Utopian city in the middle of ruins and wastelands. In a hospital Deunan planning to escape, encounters Briareos, Deunan's former lover who is now turned into a cyborg. She then decides to stay and join E-SWAT to accompany Briareos. The plot focuses on the issue of creation of artificial humans or clones.
The bioroids are human like, they possess limited emotion making them always act rationally, unlike humans who can sometimes act illogically due to emotion, making them devoid of human error and also some free will. Bioroids may be above humans but they can only live for a very limited amount of time compared to the humans because of their lack of reproductive functions. They cannot bear offspring and must periodically undergo a "life extension process".
The City of Olympus is a very advanced one (with flying vehicles and other stuff). Half of it's population is composed of Humans while the other half is composed of Bioroids. At the middle of the city are two superstructures called Tartarus and Daedalus which provides the city its power (through solar panels installed on both structures). At the top of the structures contain D-tank, a tank containing a virus that is meant to wipe out the bioroids (Humans' built this for security). At the core of the Tartarus and Daedalus resides the biological supercomputer Gaia which monitors the whole city specially the bioroid and human interactions (maintaining the balance between the two races).
Now inside this somewhat peaceful Utopia, tensions and conflicts still exists, specially between bioroids and humans. General Uranus, the leader of the Olympus regular army, is an extremist who sees bioroids as threat to humans. The governing body including the Prime Minister Athena are all composed of bioroids. The highest authority however still belongs to the supercomputer Gaia. The Gaia is accompanied by the council of 7 elders. (Gaia's "decisions" are based within debates of the computer itself and the 7 elders) These 7 elders provide Gaia's only lacking component, emotion. The conflict between humans and bioroids hit its peak when a group of androids destroys the breeding grounds effectively destroying a lot of 3rd generation bioroids and disabling them access for life extensions as well.
The story focuses on Deunan and Brioreos' efforts to save the bioroids (and Hitomi) by searching for the technological data called "Appleseed" which will restore all bioroid reproduction functions making them a new race of humans. A lot of plot twists and role reversals is in store, from Deunan's mothers' (Dr. Gilliam Knute) past to Deunan and Brioreos' relationship towards each other as human and cyborg. Everyone has their own secret schemes and a lot will take you by surprise. The plot is intelligently well made, just what you would expect from Shirow Masamune. The art is good, it is 3D animated and it its well done for its time. The action scenes are detailed and are fluid! If you liked "Ghost in the shell" you'll surely love this. A true sci-fi classic that'll make you think and be amazed of it's plot and will also please your eyes with its good and detailed 3D animation.

Ao no Exorcist is a typical shounen anime that had great potential to be a top tier shounen, but ultimately falls to a little under average.. It started off great, and had high potential, but the plot never really went anywhere and things just didn't make sense plot wise. While the first half was okay the second half with it's fast pacing kinda ruined the series. It's like they just threw stuff after stuff there that wasn't really important and the story had no direction. It only has 25 episodes (pretty short for a shounen) but it managed to give its viewers, pointless filler episodes

which leaves little time for the important details.
The setting is Assiah which is kinda like our world (mix between fantasy and modern world), where exorcists are real and are treated like the army. The demons reside in a Gehenna (a mirror world of Assiah), the demons were able to pass from Gehenna to Assiah by possessing objects or animals (even humans) that exist on Assiah.
The story revolves around half-demon half-human twins (Rin Okumura and Yukio Okumura). The twins' mother is Yuri Frederick Egin a female exorcist (human) and their father is Satan himself (only Rin inherited Satan's demon powers). Both were adopted by Shirou Fujimoto a world renowned exorcist. Fujimoto is one of the best exorcist in the world that earned him the title of "Paladin" (Strongest exorcist in the face of the planet). He has managed to shrug off Satan's possession attempts, but one day failed to do so (Kinda Rin's fault since he argued with Fujimoto) which resulted in his death.
The brothers, wanting to follow on their step father's footsteps and driven by the desire of exacting revenge on Satan, joined True Cross Academy which is an academy for exorcists (Kinda ironic since both siblings have demon bloods flowing in their veins). This is where their story begins. Like I said earlier, the plot has great potential to be a seriously good shounen anime, but then it sticked to the school setting and never really went far.
A lot of side characters were introduced (with dedicated episodes for backgrounds) and I kinda like the Idea that each of them had different exorcism skills and specialties but the plot never gave them justice, no character development for them and they never really had the screen time to build some depth on their personalities which leaves them flat and one dimensional. (again wasted potential). For a shounen anime involving demons and exorcist I was expecting more bad-ass enemies but the enemies that were presented were pretty weak and non were really memorable. The monsters and other creatures though were good looking and had good design. The art though was good and consistent
Though the plot had minimal major events, the whole series was still a good watch for its quality art and animation, good humor and very nice action scenes (though limited). Each episode was still quite enjoyable and won't really bore you even if most of them were fillers.
