You didn't have to live in the 60's to enjoy Marine Boy. I'm 27 years old as I write this and discovered this anime several years ago while browsing the internet. The funny thing is I must have seen an episode when I was very young because it seemed familiar to me so I started watching it.
Considering the anime is old it still holds up pretty well for its age. Check out the trailer by Warner Archive, who have recently released the first season on DVD, to see how good it looks.
Marine Boy is a charming, undersea adventure filled with action, excitement and some memorable
...
characters such as his friends, dolphin Splasher and mermaid Neptina. He ends up battling a whole host of sea monsters and pirates to protect the seas while working for the Ocean Patrol.
Marine Boy is quite well equipped for the job too with a special wetsuit that can deflect bullets which also contains propeller boots. He also uses an electric boomerang and chews a special gum to allow him to breathe underwater. Despite this he still winds up captured on the odd occasion.
There's plenty of episodes that explores sea life and the advantages and dangers of it while the show keeps you entertained with its wild villains.
I have a feeling Marine Boy will become more popular as the DVD is released with new people discovering it as well as age old fans being able to reminisce.
This is the show that made me become a fan of 60's anime.
