The initial energy of Toaru Majutsu no Index II seemed to quickly dissipate to me -- and with it went in-depth development of more characters and story arcs!
TL;DR last paragraph.
To be honest, I'd read reviews so I was hoping for some honest-to-goodness fanservice, but there was little to be offended at. I would have liked to see more than rounded stretched shirts on those rockin' racks on the adults and MILF supporting roles scattered throughout (like Misaka's mom!). Any so-called loli views that I can recall were tame, if completely non-existent. (Faces, and hidden figures that completely lack physical form, aren't "loli" -
...
and their outfits couldn't really be considered special, revealing or alluring, could they?)
I was soo tired of Index -- it didn't take long for her to start dragging down the show that I felt sorry for her! -- A one dimensional Savant, helpless, boring and not-funny to the point of a sad girl: Almost passed out from hunger? not funny after the 12th time! Gnawing on Touma's head? OMG, not funny after the 4th time, and not funny after the 20th time!!! Jealous for no good reason? Not funny after the third time, and still not funny after the 10th time!! TOUUMMAAA -- TOOUUMMAAA!! (repeats) <rolls eyes> For the love of... there's no reason they could have sat her out and developed a far more interesting girl - or two!! The worst/best example of lazy lazy lazy writing.
Also, multiple and repeated use of the cat-mouth in a show where someone's brains get sprayed out....maybe it's just me but juxtaposing the cute/blissful face in between the horror didn't work, it was annoying and distracting. Sure you're buying a girl ice cream or whatever, fine. But too much, man, way too much.
Issues with fights: (Minor Spoilers) 1) our MC wins when he should have flat-out been knocked the fuck out... c'mon-- he's a freakin' kid fighting seasoned adults - or whacked with an ASP! - and "grit" goes only sooo far folks! 2) Why keep throwing ESPers at him when you know he's got the "magic hand"? How about some Judo, or a brick or a 2x4? 3) and when Touma does knock down a bad guy/girl, why does he just hit them like once, knock them over, but never, ever take away their spell casting stuff so they can't kick his ASS again? ARG!!! (example, his showdown with Oriana Thomson!) I mean, he gets up after getting pounded, so why does he think they won't?! Knock their shit away, then they can come up with some hidden stuff...
I do understand why/how Accelerator could take an interest in a young waif and care for her, despite being the butcher he is -- murderers like puppies....
What is unknown to me is why our MC fights his battles - yes, I know it is the essence of a Harem plot to fight for these girls. But Touma can hear of some girl - unknown to him - is in trouble and he'll risk great bodily harm? Uh uh, I don't care how noble a person is, once you break a couple ribs and more, you don't volunteer to go back and do it again -- especially without receiving any further martial arts training? Why? It's not for money, and not for actual pussy, so why walk into that buzz saw over and over again? What? Touma finds something offensive, or unfair? Dude, you're 17 years old - call the Police! lazy writing, lazy writing, lazy writing.
Did I miss this explanation? Touma for no good reason repeatedly places himself in danger to save women he doesn't know, and simply rushes to danger and peril that he was unprepared for and unqualified to deal with because - reasons! Heck, nearly half the time he did shit that had nothing to do with his right hand, so that reason's out. Didn't even come across as a dare-devil of a kid, or one who was done with life and so screw self-preservation....
Overall, 6/10 due to lazy writing that kept stale, boring characters around and not developing others; winning fights ex machina; 20 minutes of cat-mouth; dragging on fight ending without coming up with new stunts because you're too lazy to come up with new drama; very little fanservice; no clear motivation or reason for Touma to step up to have his head caved in the first place. So it wasted the opportunity given with 24 Episodes, and stretched it out too long as a result.

This is not so much a review as a warning: There's no damn second season! This show is engaging enough such that given what little is wrapped up, and the large amount of unfinished business left dangling right in front of our eyes at the end of episode 13.... am I better off having watched it all the way through? maybe. I just wanted to warn unsuspecting viewers before they commit to watching the thirteen episodes.
Oh, and as I write more words for filler, I noticed the similarity to "World
...
Trigger" design elements here - both in mechanical and facial.

Prada to the Rescue!
Minor Spoilers!
The story was waaay below par, as were the flat acting of the CGI characters themselves and their expressions. Geez it was like watching a high school play at times! Sorry to say, but it was bad directing I think?
There were some cool "Woo" action scenes that raised my scoring up - but not enough, not enough to bring it past an overall 6/10! They were too short, too choppy and too formulaic. We've come too far, to take steps backwards!
Look, I love a good gun fight - well-executed mass carnage. We didn't get it here. And
...
while much of the movie sucked on so many levels, the clever and sexy use of Prada saved this movie from oblivion, for me. I mean, c'mon! The camera loved those heels! (the dress wasn't too shabby either, am I right?). Prada pulled this movie out of several levels of Dante's HELL!

I was drawn to the show by the notion of a high-stakes Rock, Paper, Scissors, game. I sat through that story arc and some amazing high-level gaming theory mathematics where I had to rewind several times to understand what the heck Kaiji was getting at -- and there's been a "Dr." in front of my name for 30 freakin' years!
Then I kept watching -- so it's all my fault.
With all his math skills, how EXACTLY, would kaiji allow himself to co-sign for a loan for a casual acquaintance co-worker to the freakin' YAKUZA, at something
...
like 200% compounded monthly?! Based on the wizard math skills he demonstrates in the story arc, he would TOTALLY know what the interest on $3,000 loan would be ($3,000 @ 200% monthly turns into $35,000 really quickly) and wouldn't dare put his mark on a note from a Loan Shark that Kaiji (OR his family would have to pay if the co-worker flaked on).
Oh, and since he worked with the guy, we're supposed to believe that Kaiji just nonchalantly co-signed a loan and then what? Forgot about the co-worker and the loan with the M.A.F.I.A......really? He put his SEAL on a loan with the Yakuza - with 200% interest per month! and Kaiji was just whistling away the days?! I for one want to know what was so special about that "Co-Worker"?
We get one 10 second "flashback" explaining the co-worker relationship which was not very helpful at all, and otherwise, absent Kaiji getting getting some pretty excellent ass-sex, -- it's crap storytelling, pure and simple.
The entire initial setup to get Kaiji into debt insults my intelligence and Kaiji's too. He may be a slacker, but he's no dummy when it comes to numbers, but the story itself makes him out to be stupid/have a brain, so what gives? Weak of will or gullible on some things doesn't mean that Kaiji wouldn't understand loan notes either.
LAST EPISODES
Without spoiling it, in the last episodes of the first season, through twists and turns, Kaiji has amassed 20 crates of cabbage. He says, repeatedly, that he owes 10 crates to a friend's family -- he owes 10! Kaiji also owes several crates to clear his own debt. After that, he will have a certain number of crates to himself..... at this point Kaiji's character starts doing things that he said he didn't or wouldn't do.... and I can only conclude that it was done to drive the show even if the main character is not acting right in the head.
So, at this point I'm so pissed off that I decided to give this show a fucking "3" and write this review - my very first review - after watching over a hundred anime shows too! please be kind.
Conclusion: This show went off the rails in the first episode, and I did not heed the whistle. I deserve the spanking that I received by watching all 26 episodes.
