I got into anime not a very long time ago. Living in Belgium is great, but there is only one tiny problem; there is hardly any anime on tv. So it was a coincidence that I ran into my first series: Naruto. I will keep on loving that series, even though it becomes less and less interesting with al the fillerepisodes.
I'm going to japan on 20th august, for a year, so I'm watching lots of anime to get used to the language ;) (lame excuse :p)

Well, eastern style toilets are all built right into the ground, so...it presents a bit more of a problem for women who aren't accustomed to them, to use them ^^;
Oh, so you'll be near Kyoto? I never visted Tokyo, so I know a lot more about the Kyoto/Osaka region. It's definately worth it -- you get to see a lot more of historical Japan there, without all the westernized, cosmopolitan stuff in Tokyo. Hope you enjoy it :)
Oh, well thanks for taking the time to look at my profile ^^
Japan was one of the best experiences of my life. I went over there as a student of Japanese culture when I was in college, so for me, the most interesting part was seeing the historical sites in Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. I'm a little more interested in the time before the feudal era (before samurai and all that), so it was better for me to be in that part of the country, rather than Tokyo.
It's also a joy just to be living there, but...that might just be because of my background and education, heh. Japanese people are mostly very nice and understanding to foreigners. They assume that you don't know anything, but if you can show them that you have any knowledge of Japanese culture at all, they're very flattered. My advice would be to at least learn a little something before you go, like how to greet/thank people in Japanese, or learn to use chopsticks.
Since you're a girl, I'll give you one other piece of advice. This didn't really affect me because I'm a guy, but I travelled with a group of girls a lot. Japanese toilets are not something you can sit on -- they are built directly into the ground. Naturally, in places like hotels, and places where they expect to have a lot of foreigners, it's easy to find a western toilet, but you might be surprised if you're wandering around town and decide to go to the bathroom. If using a Japanese toilet bothers you -- use the handicapped toilet. It's pretty much always western style, and they expect foreigners to use it ^^
I'm happy to give any advice or answer questions, if you like. Enjoy your trip, it really is a dream! :D
