You're not missing anything with the Mask of Deception anime adaptation. While the first Uta anime is acceptable at best, the Deception anime is irredeemable as fuck, especially the last few episodes.
I still recommend playing Prelude because you'll get more attached to characters because more scenes and alot of those moments got screwed in the anime sadly. Take your time though. Dunno when the anime will even come out anyway lol so you have time
Prelude is a good game with alot of fights (yes it has gameplay) and god tier music.
And I recommend playing the whole thing sadly
So yes i highly recommend playing the first game (Prelude to the Fallen specifically since it has more content). Deception and Truth has a good amount of callbacks from the first game especially Truth (which i am on right now).
