Overlord II (Anime) add
Mixed Feelings
Boom. Fresh off of my 4 years too late review of the first season, here is my review of the second.

The first season ends with Ains/Momon/Dumb Name Man rallying an army of the undead to appropriate some land for the glory of the empire. Exciting right? It'd be cool to see a skeleton man leading an army of dead stuff into war right?
Too bad! Because now he wants lizards.

The first season ended by setting up a more action-packed second season and possibly learning more about whether there are other players in this MMO isekai world.

The second season starts with a Phantom Menace ...

Interesting core premise failed by writers who apparently didn't want to do much with it.

Guy is obsessed with an MMO he's played forever. Stays online in it when the servers shut down.
Ends up stuck in it.
He's a skeleton.
He's a wizard.
He's a Gary Stu.

Overall the first season of this isn't bad. It's okay. There are some amazing fights and watching Dumb Named Man (Ains Oal Gown?...) plotting world domination to find other stranded players is cool until you watch the second season.

Then the first arc ended and he literally ate the most compelling plot thread they had going.
In its place we got a bunch of non-enemies who didn't pose enough of a threat to anything, or were straight up diplomacy-ed into not being enemies anymore. Then a big-ish conspiracy involving ...

It's shocking and disappointing that this anime is getting overlooked by so many people. Personally I blame the massive amount of coverage things with more money behind them are getting. Because this is a joint Funimation-Crunchyroll venture, thus it SHOULD have enough going for it to get as many views as possible. If they'd promote it.

So what is it and is it worth watching? I say absolutely. This show is basically what would happen if Men In Black and CLAMP's xxxHolic had a baby.

What it pulls off best is the art and sound most of all. It's VERY pretty to look at a ...
