I've heard only good things about the new season, I hope to reach it before the story ends.
Yeah, unfortunately this community has got to be one of the most toxic I've ever seen. Some reviews and forum threads were what kept me from joining for a long time.
Hey, I'm not sure if you noticed, but part of your Bleach review was posted on MyAnimeList's Facebook page a few days ago xD
The new season is coming and I'm nowhere near up to date with the anime, rip.
Being honest i never watched Bleach.
But is one of the most loved animes, so you are not alone.
When someone mock something that make other person happy, he is not a friend.
Gurren Lagann is my reason to live so i understand you
Fruits Basket is, again, another show I'm interested in watching some day. Also, now that you mention it, there really are stories you're able to experience better as you age... Even works that seem "childish" on the surface can be appreciated much differently.
I intended messaging you after having watched at least one of Satoshi Kon's works. So, here I am, completely blown away by Perfect Blue.
The amount of times I tried transcribing my experience with this movie into words can't be counted... Maybe I need some time to thoroughly process it.
Talk about leaving a good impression.
To be honest, my very first contact with his works was actually Ani*Kuri15, which is a compilation of "15 one-minute shorts created by various people from Japan's animation industry". This was in my Plan To - hopefully - Watch list for a long time (all due to Makoto Shinkai's participation)... So ,yesterday, I decided to take a look into it.
Some of those shorts were quite good, but there was one that really stood out - Ohayō. I can safely say it was the best 60 seconds content I've ever seen. As you can imagine, it was made by the man himself - Satoshi Kon.
Gintama looks great, it's one of the shows I plan to watch in the future (hopefully). At least, its scores are certainly impressive.
By the way, I did watch a few animes on television when I was a child, but I had no idea they were from Japan... Somehow, it never occurred to me that Goku didn't actually speak Portuguese lol
As for recommendations: after looking a little bit into our lists, my best bet would be "86" (which is currently airing its second part). While I think it's unlikely that it will captivate you like Monster, I'm almost certain that it's going to be a memorable experience.
I'm not familiar with Satoshi Kon's works, but I'll make sure to check it out later. Moreover, I would very much appreciate any recommendations, although I can't promise to watch them soon (you know, I have a couple of Bleach episodes to catch up) ;-;
I'm glad I read your review... That ended up leading me to a very pleasant conversation.
Thank you!
That makes sense. It's probably harder to get attached to older long shows (like the so-called Big Three for example) when you have already finished one of them... You just can't connect the same way you did on your first experience. Specially when you get older.
Still, I feel like finishing Bleach this time, since it was a good friend of mine who asked me to watch it. Plus, I gotta admit that the experience is better now than it was in the beginning, probably because we are getting to know more of the characters' backstories.
Due to having discovered anime quite late (19 yo), there are many shows that I can't enjoy as much as I would if I was younger (Fairy Tail is a good example)... But at least this delay left me with a long list of masterpieces to catch up.
The last impactful show that made me feel something is also in your favorite's list: Monster, what a story! Wolfgang Grimmer has got to be one of the best characters I've seen in a long time.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to reply back.
All the best!
Bleach was the first anime I tried after finishing Naruto and it was also the first one I dropped. Throughout these years I tried to watch it a few more times, but the show could never grab my attention for more than 5 episodes or so.
Anyways, I just read your review and it really spoke to me because I feel the same way with other animes. So... What am I missing? What have you seen in this show that I can't see? Should I already be feeling the same connection you feel by now or is it still too early?
I'm not trying to discredit your review in any way, far from that... If I'm being honest, I actually want to enjoy it as much as you portraited in your text, but, as for now, I just can't.
All the best!
