I wil def start checking it out maybe read a little before bed, I actually got CH1 for free because of COVID so Ive been meaning to read it. And the slowly ease into scary sounds kind of cool, iirc in the anime it was an immediate switch lol. I already felt so bad for Satoko in the anime, I dont know if I can handle the VN version especially since I relate to her the most😭 Do you read it with the console sprites and voice acting patch?

Damn you read a lot! Fate seems scary to get into because if there is so many anime entries, god there has to be a ton of visual novels for it. Although it seems like you are only focusing on the main routes.

doki doki was pretty garbage ill be honest but I actually kind of liked the characters, probably due to a lack of VN reading lmao

I think I only heard goldenslaughterer out of those 3, but wow I loved the other two and Erika's especially. That reminds me I also like Bernkastels theme a lot. I'm starting to feel an inkling to start the VN now just cause of those songs, seriously 😂

I dont think in the QA they revealed the rule that you can only trust the detective POV though right?? Before that I thought they were in the same rooms as other characters still and interacting with them (obviously not with Battler).

Isn't the higurashi VN like 50% slice of life? I actually loved those parts in the anime but heard that it is so overwhelming in the VNs that it gets boring. Well I didn't like the creepy loli humor, that is a massive turnoff for me from the WTC series in general. And what other VNs are you reading? I'm oblivious to the genre outside of WTC and I guess doki doki literature club lmao

The Umineko manga is so good and its answers for EP8 are so sad but powerful. Don't worry, I listened to the OST while watching the manga though. My favorite track was worldenddominator and I still love it even though I never listen to OSTs, what about yours? And its surprising that you could figure out the culprit after only barely thinking about them... I had an idea but I needed it confirmed for me. The love trial shouldve been a dead giveaway 🤦‍♂️

what's your respective thoughts on saya no uta and subahibi?

Eh, I understand where you're coming from, however I still think the problem is execution, not the concept. For example, there could've been a lot of things done with Laura, given the situation with her father, her relationship with Aurelia and Arianrhod, but aside from a handful of mentions in dialogue, it never went anywhere - she was just there. Another obvious thing is that she's following the way of the sword and is in a constant training mode, yet is never able to keep up with actual threats and heavily falls behind Rean, so you have to wonder what is even her role unless you romance her. It wasn't the case in CSI - one of its main themes was antagonism between aristocracy and commoners, and she appeared as a virtuous noblewoman who perfectly represented the idea of noblesse oblige. Her Arseid background also stood out with her being the strongest in the class (power scaling can get weird sometimes, but it was mentioned by characters themselves; iirc the only one who could keep up with her was Fie due to her real battle experience). Man, it feels weird defending her after I betrayed her for Shizuna smh.

I vehemently disagree on this. OG Class VII appears as an actual class - a large number of semi-random, mostly same-age youth put together by the system and people around it. And like in any other class, there are obviously people (characters) you in particular like more than the others, and that's how it should be. I think CSI was perfect and the problems started arising since CSII because due to the story development and the form of narration chosen by Falcom everyone aside from Crow became secondary to Rean, i.e. CSII and onwards is possible if, like you've mentioned, you cut half the characters out of it (including the ones you like btw), but Crossbell arc would be completely different without Tio, Rixia, Randy, Elie, pretty much anyone.

I love Class VII, both new and old, however, I can't deny that they had some narration issues which made them not as fleshed out as SSS for example.

I consider Hajimari pretty much a Cold Steel 5, ha-ha.

how to put it, i enjoy the show usually by putting myself in "what if im that character" scenario, and try to think the way the character do with the given traits. and i feel some of them are off with how they act in the story. thats why i said its lacking emotional attachment between characters.
for example:
- the ninja, i dont understand why the underling willing to sacrifice themselves without complaint while i think those ninja are egoistic and have their own goal, they even do it without hesitation.
- Shichika, he just keep saying he love Togame without any reason at all, does he even know the concept of "love" he talking about or he just merely want to get used as hes a katana. he doesnt even lust towards Togame. he also protecting Nanami from his father but for what reason ? because he love his sister or fear ? he even willingly to against Nanami without any questions when Togame told him to, was his reason protecting his sister because he love his sister make sense now ? about he killed Meisai, okay he wasnt as human before, but later in the story, the story tells that he got some regret deep down regarding killing them but i guess its character development so he start to aware about empathy i dont think this one as off that much. and then after Togame death he doesnt seem think too much about it and even befriend with the blonde girl, that make me think that the "love" concept hes been feeling was indeed wrong.
- Togame, she claim to love him in the end but what shes been doing is just order Shichika around, she want Shichika to love her without offering anything to Shichika, and even shes jealous when Shichika seem have interest in other girl while shes just treat him as tool, okay she may indeed implicate to develop liking towards Shichika because shes willing to kiss him, but it could be also to make Shichika fall deeper into her and stay obedient to her, she never do anything for the sake of Shichika, its always about her and her goal thats why i also mentioned that shes self-centered.
- Nanami, i thought of her more reasonable because of course she love her brother because her brother protect her from her father, thats why the first mass murder was because she want to help her brother to collect the katana which is reasonable because hes her only family and she love him, but later she kill people without reason because the katana affecting her. and maybe because of that she feel bad of herself and then want to just die because shes aware shes becoming a monster, make it quite reasonable if she think that way.
well maybe im just a bit too deep on seeing the show but dont get me wrong i dont try to make you enjoy the show as the way i am, because of course we have our own preference anyway. and as you said monogatari have more relatable story that i can try with "what if im that character" scenario easier because they have set which more modern, thats why im comparing with it as both nisio isin work.
