I think these 2 character aren't a good comparison. Goku-Gon would be a better one.
Still, I find Luffy a much better entertainment value and a better comedic refreshment to the series. In situations he comes up with better decisions and I believe he has better and more straight-forward ideals and motives than Gon.
I wont start it for a while thats for sure, I had a burn out with long shows recently after watching a few long runners all in a row, I watched all of ippo (124 combined episodes + 2 movies) thenf ollowed it up with starting the monolith that was watching every single universal gundam (well over 250+ episodes spanning multiple 50 ep series, a bunch of spin offs and a few movies) then finally topping it off by watching all of the LOTGH main series which had 27 minute long episodes many times skipping the opening and ending, so its actually quite longer than a normal 110 episode series
So yeah, I'm burned out for now, I'll watch it one day but sure as shit not anytime soon.
Haha, I agree actually, I think the majority of the people hating on it probably just do it for the sake of hating the big 3/shounens in general.
Naruto has some great arcs, especially early on, the exams and the rescue arc, they were a bunch of fun, and unpredictable too, since nobody knew what people were fully capable of. Fairy tail is just Natsu and co powering up with nakama feels and defeating every enemy. Boring. Not that Naruto doesn't have those moments too, just it has it to a way lesser extent. Also Naruto has some deaths to major characters :o It also felt like there was some shape of a plot planned from the very onset, didn't get that feel from Fairy Tail.
