Which of Russia's authors committed suicide? I thought the US and England had all the suicidal authors. Although I think Japan actually might take the championship in that category.

BTW, I created a new club. You're welcome to join if you would like. It is a place to discusss unorthodox anime interpretations and speak unpopular opinions without getting flamed and escape MAL's circle jerking bullshit.

dating pigeons!? I would rather do this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhuMLpdnOjY

Tom Lehrer is an American national treasure! He taught advanced mathematics at Harvard and MIT when he wasn't writing absurd songs like this. He is the only person to have ever simultaneously been one of America's top 20 comedians and top 20 mathematicians at the same time. He also wrote songs against nuclear war, since he always felt bad for being a researcher at Los Alamos and contributing to the American Hydrogen bomb project.

I am in medical school. One reason I am often awake at crazy hours. I wish to either become a neurologist or a psychiatrist.

Are you attending college in the US?

It seems like every museum in St. Petersberg and Moscow charges tourists based on nation, but if you go along with some Russian friends and don't say anything, you can get in for free because they are free for Russians. It is sad that my country REALLY doesn't get along with Russia. We all know Putin is a jerk, but actually Poroshenko is a fairly shady character and our media of course portrays every conflict as simply good (US) vs. evil (whoever the US is fighting) even when the conflict is rather grey and the US actually has ulterior motives. Americans seem to hate not just Putin but honestly strongly hate Russians in general, and I don't feel that is helpful. The Rightwing in the US thinks Russians are godless Communists who hate Jesus, and the Leftwing thinks Russians are Super Christian extremists that murder gay people all day. Each side sees exactly what they hate in Russia, even though the 2 visions are largely contradictory and this is made worse by America's often sad lack of reading, historical knowledge, and travel experience.

China is such a large country that of course it varies depending on where you go. Shanghai and Hong Kong are very modern cities with solid infrastructure and excellent mass transport, but other areas of China are still very poor. Pollution is quite bad in Shanghai when I went last summer. There are many days when you can't see the buildings due to smog. However, the skyline is VERY impressive when you can actually see it. Hangzhou is close to Shanghai and although foreigners like me don't visit it as often, it is actually the most visited tourist destination for Chinese traveling within the country. It was the capital of China during the Song Dynasty when China's last Golden Age took place and China led the world in technology. It is the birthplace of gunpowder, the compass, fireworks and early rockets, the first printing press, and much more. However, the original buildings were largely destroyed by the Mongols, rebuilt by the Ming Dynasty, then destroyed again by the Japanese in WW2 and rebuilt recently. Only the museums contain artifacts of any actual age. China is cool because it offers a mix of historical depth with modern large city entertainment. I also like that you can buy any DVD for 1$ and it comes in a cool collectors case and everything! Often the only way to buy classic movies like Bicycle Thieves or Metropolis or Seven Samurai in the US is to get the Criteria collectors edition for outrageous prices above 40$. However, those Criteria collection DVDs are made in China and sold in Chinese shops with the same quality footage and subtitles for 1$ a piece, so a MUST for film lovers.

That's really cool that you got to see Ukraine and Russia. What cities did you visit? Neither are considered the most friendly tourist destinations, but the history, art, architecture, and museums are amazing!
