Became an anime fan from watching pokemon and Naruto, I'm not a big Otaku but i do watch several anime and read some Manga. My favorite series is Naruto.
I didn't really like Angel Beats myself due to the very meaningless plot, but the adventure getting to the end I suppose was entertaining.
That said, if you decide to go with Angel Beats and need something else to watch after... I wholly recommend Working!!, GJ-bu, Servant x Service, and Clannad/Clannad After Story if you don't mind having Drama be the focal point in After Story.
Clannad is awesome, but I couldn't bear with angel beats. I dropped it after the first two episodes.
Try Kanon too, it has the same feeling and themes as Clannad, and can be argued to be better than clannad in some aspects.
I highly recommend White Album 2 (it's not a sequel to anything contrary to what the name suggest). It's an amazing and eye capturing anime. Give it a try if you are interested.

Don't give up on the genre because of school days. School days was HORRIBLE, it is the worst that the genre has to offer. Man, just go to my anime list, it'll get you straight.
just to add i have a friend who's just like you who LOVES shonen and i made him watch Clannad & Clannad after story when he had watched it he wrote on facebook. I can't stop crying....and every time he hears an OP,ED,OST from clannad he's like "Them feelings ;_;" xDDD
you say your not gonna watch any Slice of Life animes because of school days.... you watched the infamous school days and then boycott the entire genre..... thats just stupid.
i read your review of school days. i just have a few things to point out....if you think school days is the definition of slice of life you're soooo wrong i mean yeah ONE off the genre in school days is slice of life. to say you will never watch a slice of life again because of school days is like if you would watch the worst shonen anime ever as your first shonen anime and then say that you will never watch shonen again. I mean it's your fault for making such a poor choice. good slice of life animes would be Clannad and Clannad After Story, AnoHana, Kanon 2006, wolf children, K-on, toradora, little busters, Kimi to Boku etc etc watch thoose and tell me you don't like slice of life, i would recommend Clannad but you have to watch both seasons i promise you that you will cry a river ;) just some friendly advice for a fellow anime watcher, just so you don't miss out on some amazing animes.
I wouldn't judge a genre just by one anime - and I also wouldn't judge an anime just by being something that's new to you. School Days also isn't the ideal or normal slice of life. Try Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.
I wouldn't consider School Days a regular Slice of Life. Try one with little or no drama. There's plenty of good ones out there with a plot and character development.
