My boyfriend describes this movie best, "a lot of stuff happens but also nothing at all."
This movie is one of the few that are canon in the series but if you expect it to be plot heavy then forget it.
What it lacks in plot it makes up for in emotional depth that is expressed through the music and songs played. If you don't plan on watching the film then I recommend at least listening to the soundtrack on Spotify. It's fantastic!

she decides to hold her first-ever concert for her fans but it turns out that the once pirate-loving Uta has changed and the Strawhats and some surprising friends must save her and themselves before it's too late.
Simple enough plot. However, we see the Pirate Age from the eyes of civilians within the first few scenes of the film. We as the audience have seen things mainly from the perspective of our Strawhats and we know that most pirates aren't like them but for once we are transported to what the average pirate does to the ordinary citizen and that the marines aren't as useful in dealing with them. This is where we know our gang comes into play to fix the problems the marines have let rot. Unfortunately, there are more Blackbeards and not enough Luffys in the world to deal with all the problems the world is facing.
By telling the story through songs we get to understand how the characters are feeling. In this case, Uta sings through the progression of her own emotional development throughout the film, and in turn, we learn more about Luffy, Shanks, and Uta and what being a Pirate means through Uta's backstory.
I think actions speak louder than words and just like in the Fishman Arc when Luffy told the citizens to determine for themselves whether he was a hero or villain, we as the audience have to determine the worth of this film not based on plot but emotion.
Do you like music? Anime? Music in anime? Emotional depth? Character-driven stories? Decent action scenes? Then this movie is for you, even if you're not a One Piece fan. It's just nice to look at and listen to overall.

Ahhhh, this was such a wholesome movie to watch......♥

This is both a PART 1&2 review because its hard for me to really separate the two as they flow nicely together. Important things to keep in mind are that I personally would not watch this series myself. I was intrigued by the premise as a friend recommended it and my friends were planning on watching it together. I thought I would find the most enjoyable part being their commentary as its always so entertaining even if I didn't end up liking the anime, I would still have fun. At least that's what I thought.
What ended up happening was I was so absorbed in the story that time seemed to go by fast and by the time the second one finished I was craving more. Why though?
The characters are cookie-cutter stylistically that its like they're the anime doppelgangers for other series. Theirs also such a plethora of characters that unless you have already seen the anime series you might not appreciate them as much. Might even be confused but just like with any anime, the stars of the show tend to show themselves.
By the end of the movies, I had developed a love for the characters and an appreciation of the plotline where I want to now watch the anime series itself and not just the movies.
The concept of games of war using tanks from different countries and periods of history as a team sport is both strange and revolutionary to me. This concept alone intrigued me enough to want to know more - keep in mind, I wouldn't look for a story like this myself.
The main premise of these movies is those war games. Most of the movie is dedicated to that and pregame re-con. All in the hopes of winning and being able to help their senpai graduate. [Seriously so wholesome XD]
My favorite part is that this sports series is better at strategizing then an actual anime based on war or fighting that I have seen in a while. It isn't like two mechs half hazard fighting one another where the pilot somehow miraculously wins. The conflict is intense and strategic where you never know what team will win until the very end. Your on the edge of your seat the whole time which is great because do you really want a predictable anime? No. That's boring.
One good thing about sports-based anime series is that you never know what the outcome will be. Its not about OP characters who you expect will win because they are the protagonist. Instead your constantly on the edge of your seat because the goal may be winning but that doesn't mean they will. However, it doesn't take away the overall enjoyment you feel when you watch. This can't really be said for series that have a conflict based storyline because if its not done in a good way, it can look really bad, be it story or animation or both.
I would say that due to its unique plot with historic details, action-packed animation with first-person perspectives, entertaining characters, and overall wholesome enjoyment, its a great watch.

My overall rating in terms of a review is that this series is a 7 for one simple fact: I had to re-watch the movie to get a better understanding of it.
Not everyone will be able to appreciate Akira the first time they watch it. Honestly, its a little confusing and very fast pasted that some people won't be able to catch everything right away especially cus this story doesn't start at the beginning of events but after they have happened so it's easy to miss important details.

story, the first time around. If they can't, it's hard to appreciate it for what it truly is. Keep in mind Akira is 2hrs long. Most people won't re-watch a movie they saw the first time around that confused them. Simply put, this movie might not be everyone's cup of tea.
HOWEVER, this movie is a classic anime because of the impact it had at the time of its release but now most people might consider it average. If we ignore the governmental aspect of the plot, the basic storyline is a kid who didn't have powers before but due to random series of events gains powers that he has no control over while becoming a government test subject. He tries to understand these newfound abilities and learns to appreciate them because he now doesn't need his best friend to save him anymore. Tetsuya wants to be the hero, not the sidekick anymore. Said friend then tries to save him from himself.
To most experienced anime watchers, this plot is average. There isn't anything revolutionary about it. Except for the animation because a lot of modern anime are very cookie-cutter. Akira is stylistically unique with great quality animation especially considering it was made in 1988 and has aged beautifully.
Akira was made with the help of the mangaka which at the time had not finished the manga so the movie is the first interpretation of Akira. I suggest reading the manga along with watching it to get a fuller picture of the story especially if you had a hard time understanding Akira the first time around and don't wanna watch the movie a second time.

This series blew me away. This is how episodic episodes are done right. By the end of the anime, our robotic soldier of an MC could finally become a normal human being.
Even though there weren't many episodes, they both individually and together pact a lot of depth and weren't wasted filler and even though it was an episodic series the transition between them was flawless, I would forget that I'm not watching a series with giant arcs because those half-hour episodes flowed so smoothly together that each individual episode felt like its own mini-arc in the series.
What makes the story more

interesting is that the focus of the episode isn't Violet but whatever letter or task she has to accomplish for someone else whose life ends up impacting Violets and she ends up gaining new knowledge and understanding about herself and her relationship with the Major.
Each character plays an important role in her life and helps to progress the story itself and Violet's character development.
This is a very character driven show and those tend to be my favorite but it certainly doesn't lack action, on the contrary, our MC is a former child soldier and the story takes place both within the memories of the past war and the continued ability to maintain peace with the two former enemy nations. Doesn't help that some rebels want to maintain the conflict and our little MC gets dragged in the middle of it so we get to see her kick some major butt.
It's also a love story if you can believe it, just a lot more painful, and lacking in the cliches of most romance series that gets overplayed.
This story is emotionally driven so if you want one with senseless action, I don't think this is the story for you.
Now in terms of the art and animation, it's probably one of my favorite ones. The colours alone in this series are fantastic. They are filled with such life and personality, that it's blindingly beautiful. The art is largely what interested me in the story and I'm happy that I stuck around to the end. It was worth it.

I had such high hopes for this story like it had such a strong start. I thought this would become one of the regular series that I would read but when I entered the last chapter I was so disappointed with the story. People hate long series especially shonen because they tend to be dragged and milked for every last cent.
This series has the opposite problem. If it becomes an anime, I would want filler, lots and lots of it because this series lacked commitment. Not substance, it had plenty of that with its interesting characters and plot. It just felt like the author

was rushing through the series to get it done. It could have been at least 15 chapters longer than what it was, maybe more.
The story was definitely of the typical shonen variety but it had an interesting concept about Golems which I didn't think a story about Golems could be interesting but boy did it blow me away. And the main character was so engaging and interesting and I didn't find him the slight bit annoying.
It had the typical main character having a dream about being the strongest except with a twist because the only reason the MC wanted to prove himself was so people could acknowledge the skill of his master who created him as being the best.
It was like the author couldn't make up their mind at what point in the story they wanted to be in. Our MC first appears when he is really strong, helps to defend a village from attack, then we see him in his childhood where we get his backstory, skip to a time skip where he is trying to pass the test that would make him an Arcanist and then another time-skip where he is magically the best Arcanist.....seriously....I honestly don't know how point B going straight to point D while completely ignoring point C of the story.
The journey is what makes a read fun, not the destination...aka...why I'm happy One Piece has last over two decades already, it would have been a boring series if it only lasted 5 years as intended. Not saying all series should last that long but if you have something good, don't blow its potential away after 15 chapters. Develop it, nurture it and it will pay off. Clearly, the mangaka did not get the memo.
I was so crushed by this series....like it could have been something. Like it had an angsty Sasuke like character in it for crying out loud. You know it was bound to be good with just that but nope. All that potential went down the drain. Honestly, it's not even worth reading because you're going to end up sucked in and the next minute its like you're falling from a cliff of "I Wasted My Time For This S***".

Personally, I really enjoy this series however, I think that this is one of those series where if you like a faster pace, read the manga because it flows a lot quicker. The anime has many filler moments which I think give it more depth and a fuller understanding of things. A manga has no time for filler crap, it needs to get down to business. Unlike the filler in Naruto, this has a purpose to the series and isn't just there for the hell of it. This is why I would suggest reading the manga and watching the anime together because I feel they

complement each other nicely.
Personally, I wish the pace was faster because it will be episode 14 until the really good crap happens and I think that's ridiculously slow but this series also has a large cast and for many of the episodes your getting to know a lot of different characters as well as an understanding of the hierarchy within the world.
One of the biggest complaints I have heard since episode one of this series aired is Asta's voice. I suggest that people listen to Funimation's dubbed version which is 11 episodes in so far as Asta's voice is much more pleasant to listen too dubbed.
Something that I really like about this series is the animation, it's beautifully done and it's like a rainbow for the eyes. The opening and ending are also really well done.
I love the relationship between Yuno and Asta and not as toxic as a lot of other series. These two characters genuinely love one another and believe in each other. It's so positive it makes me all warm inside.
This series is a combination of Naruto and Fairy Tail. With it being about a land filled with magic and guilds of magic knights like the magic guilds in Fairy Tail however much like Naruto we have protagonists who want to be the magic knight emperor, the strongest of all the magic knights, like the Kages in the Hidden Villages.
Personally, I highly suggest reading the manga even if you don't like the anime because you can avoid the annoying voice acting and the slow pacing and enjoy a wonderful story.

Three complaints I hear from people about One Piece is A) it's too long! Of course, it's going to be long, this series is about 20 years old - that's the same age as me and considering how popular it is in especially in Japan, it's not a surprise that the anime has 800+ episodes with a manga almost at 1000 chapters. The fact it's still a top dog after both Naruto and Bleach ended while stories like Fairy Tail are crashing and burning, shows how much more depth there is to this series.
So some advice - who said you had to watch all of

it in one sitting? Watch it arc by arc whenever you feel like it. Enjoy it. If you want something to watch for the laughs - WATCH ONE PIECE.
B) Weird art style. Something I never understood is people thinking One Piece is weird looking. I find it refreshing because of how unique it is. Actually rather than unique, it's more like it doesn't follow the anime style stereotype even within a shounen series which makes it stand out in terms of design.
Advice - if the art style bugs you to the point you can't concentrate on the series, stop watching it. I have seen many series where the art style was not my favorite but I watched it anyway because I enjoyed the series. If the story captivates you enough, eventually the art won't matter to you anymore."Kingdom" was one such series for me.
C) The English dub sucks. Okay first off, who said you had to listen to it in dubbed? Second, the Funimation version is better and follows the original without changing anything, unlike the 4kids dub. Third I tend to prefer dubs because I can multitask while I'm watching since I have no subtitles to read. Also since it is a long series and I read the manga as well, I watch the anime whenever the dubbed arcs come out. This way I get a break in between and don't feel overwhelmed with the series. Plus, I enjoy watching the fight scenes animated.
Advice - if you enjoy dubbed watch it in dubbed if you like subbed than watch it in its original version. Also, many dubs have been really well made - even better than the original like FMA/B and DBZ. So don't rule a dub out just because you think dubs suck.
Now time for my thoughts on the series:
One must appreciate the complexity of this anime. I mean many shows are good with just 25 episodes but were not talking about simply defeating the bad guy or achieving a dream, this show is about Pirates having adventures. This means that the end goal doesn't really matter, it's about the journey and when you're creating the world around travel, that means you have to be able to have enough material to create unique characters, islands and somehow make it seem like all of these adventures are connected with one another to the main story plot- i.e. Luffy becoming the Pirate King. That's not an easy task and Oda has preplanned this series so far in advance that things that appear trivial in one arc become really important later on. Like "Thriller Bark" when we meet Brook, the 9th member. We assume it's just adding another crewmate but this one arc had Easter eggs connecting to the current arc in the series dealing with the "Four Pirate Emperors". That's key because one of the biggest complaints I have heard about Fairy Tail as a series is the missing plot points. In terms of foreshadowing skills and using flashbacks, One Piece has it in the bag.
Complaint D) is the pacing is slow in the beginning. Which is true but that's so each character has a foundation - the Straw Hats don't just take any random member, each crew member has a specific role within the ship, they are fundamental to the stories progression so they need to be flushed out, we aren't talking about fodder characters like in every other pirate crew.
The show also explores the dichotomous relationship between Pirates and Marines and that they're not as black and white as we think they are. As the world and characters are flushed out we see that there are some major problems and it just so happens that the Straw Hats are always in the middle of it.
This series talks about a lot of complicated topics but in a light-hearted way that makes you not take the anime too seriously but understanding that there is a lot of depth behind it. Some examples of tough topics explored are domestic abuse, human slavery/trafficking, discrimination, & classism.
In terms of world building the anime is fantastic - there are a few filler arcs but compared to Naruto, they are nothing, 98% is canon.
Music wise it's quite catchy and has a fun loving tone that makes you excited to see the crews adventures.
Character wise it has some of the most well-rounded characters in a series, even for side characters, considering it has such a large cast, that's quite impressive :D - long running series like Naruto failed to do that which is sad considering most of the series was located within the Leaf village. [Don't get me wrong I'm a Naruto fan but I am not afraid to admit it has its faults]
One Piece is a series that's full of surprises - aka. I found Sanji annoying and dismissed his character as a total flirt - current arc within the series, I adore him. Very few series has made me change my mind on a character especially this deep in. You will find many characters to love or hate - I'm looking at you Akainui - but that's what makes this such an entertaining series to watch.
In terms of Shonen series, I would say One Piece is one of the most well-developed stories out there and would tell anyone to give it at least a shot. The series may surprise you.
Also to those that hate when a character is only ever OP, in One Piece these characters do struggle and they do lose. And characters do actually die without any of that Dragon Ball Z they all keep coming back to life bullshit. Again love the series but people find Fairy Tail characters not seeming to be able to die annoying while I find even when DBZ characters die they just come back to life like it never even happened.

I have been wanting to watch this anime since I came across the trailer the first time and I got to say the trailer was deceiving but in a good way. The movie wasn't predictable especially for a romance movie however, I wish that it had been longer. I felt it ended abruptly while at the same time having a rather slow start.
If you're looking for a story with a variety of complex characters then you're going to be sadly disappointed. The story is composed of 2-D characters who are a support towards our protagonist Hal.
This story is simple but easy to follow.

The use of flashbacks is probably the best I have ever seen and is a key component to understanding the current timeline of the story. I suggest to pay attention because the little details are key :)

As I write this, I have official watched all 12 episodes of Yuri!!! On Ice and boy what a spectacle it is. I’m pretty sure Yuri broke tumblr……..anyway. There are a lot of things about Yuri!!! On Ice that make it different compared to many of the other mainstream sports series out there.
First off, this story is based on actual competitive figure skating like the kind that could take someone to the Olympics. Secondly, the series makes figure skating look BAD ASS and BEAUTIFUL all at the same time. Its animation is flawless and the skating just takes your breath away. It was choreographed

by a person who works in the figure skating industry, so it’s definitely not half assed. It portrays a realistic depiction to the lives of these athletes not just on but off the ice as well. One of our main characters Victor is based off an actual figure skater named Johnny Weir – who you should check out because he is beautiful!!! This series as it is based on international competition has characters from around the world, Russia, Kazakhstan, Canada, Japan, etc. and they don’t have any of the stereotypes implemented. My representative J.J. from Canada certainly does not behave like the typical Canadian stereotype (no invisible Canada here).
This show also implements two very important things, first the anxiety and pressure athletes face as well as an actual homosexual relationship. You see the death grip that anxiety has on our main protagonist Yuri throughout the competition but as the story progresses, Yuri learns to deal with his problems, though they never go away completely, like actual anxiety. You also learn the pressure that these players end up facing and how their mental state on the ice, affects their performance. This doesn’t mean that an emotionless skating performance is the best option, in many cases, it is that emotion while skating that helps them achieve greatness which you will see throughout the episodes.
Now to my favorite part VUCTURI!!!! These guys well I’m not going to spoil anything but each episode is like a new piece of the puzzle towards unraveling their relationship. Yuri and Victor do not portray a stereotypical gay relationship what’s so ever and it’s actual quite refreshing to see such a mature, deep relationship between two people especially in sports where most of our couples tend to be just head canons, even the heterosexual ones.
However, Yuri is not the only main player we have, Yurio (Yuri), the kitten becomes a sort of rival to Yuri and friend, who together help each other grow and become better skaters. In each of the performances we learn a little more about the characters, so it isn’t just our main trio that gets the spot light.
The music is freaking great. You can’t help but want to listen to it all the time. It’s a nice mixture of lyrical and classical, nothing to modern. The opening itself is in English and god is it beautiful to look at. Pay close attention to it in each episode because it’s never the same opening twice ;)
