Welcome to Nyo's Netherealm!

I'm sort of a picky anime-watcher. Only watched a few of the "should watch" kind of shows. But what shows I HAVE watched are REALLY good. I've also watched some obscure stuff or stuff that people may or may not like, but that's a 'no duh' sort of thing at this point. Oh yeah, and I'm a sucker for video game adaptations and psychological anime. I'm also still always looking for new shows to watch.

Just some suburban boiyo with not much to do other than video games, a job, and some hobby voice-impressions for characters from the series I love. Not much else to say really.

Also, in case you haven't noticed...I don't read manga much. My wallet limits me and it's just kinda hard for me to get into it if it's not something mind-bending like Junji Ito or something. Just like you...I probably like video games and anime (and manga) as much you all do...so yeah.

I'll be sure to read the silver case 4.5 and share my thoughts on it with you once i do read it. And yeah lol knowing suda51 who can say lol.
Disapeared_Ghost Apr 11, 2023 6:14 AM
I just finished Fatal Frame on the switch, not too long ago if we're talking about horror based camera games black water had alot of filler and padding and backtracking which kind of turned me off from it otherwise i found it to be pretty scary af and i wanna try lunar eclipse that suda51 also worked on sometime soon since the remastered version just came out not too long ago.

Also speaking of jsr, supposedly that and peresona 3's remake were leaked online according to an article i've read on gematsu and i have my reservations that it is true because it looked like it could have been some mods for gameplay, but we'll see if its really is true because i know so much of my friends would love to see 3 be remade with all of the new features each version of persona 3 carries.

Disapeared_Ghost Mar 26, 2023 6:56 PM
Yo, you ever tried Fatal Frame Lunar Eclipse? the name itself is a part of the moon symbolism Suda51 has and i've been meaning to try the games out for a while now.
Disapeared_Ghost Mar 22, 2023 6:33 PM
Tetsuya Nomura stated that the original game was still canon and that it could also be seen as a sequel to the anime iirc. Oof buyers remorse that sucks. :(

Lol, from cereal marketing mascot to genius mathematcian what a character arc. XD

I've played the Yakuza games, most recent being judgement and its pretty addicting and i've also liked Va-11 Hall-a i got a physical copy of it from Japan a while back. 1,2 and 3 are the ones i have to look at eventually.

The xeno series has a pretty interseting and vivid history. It was intially a draft of Final Fantasy 7 but it was too edgy for it to be a Final Fantasy game so it eventually became its own project. Parasite Eve was also at one point a potential story draft too for Final Fantasy 7 but the ny detective elements and thriller stuff eventually led to it being its own project and it was based off the j-horror book of the same name, but like Shin Megami Tensei, the games took a life of its own from the books to a full fledged game series. Xeno has had many entries but somehow got their vision tampered due to executive meddling somehow and with Nintendo so far the developers vision for the Xeno series has went very sucessful over the years and Xeonblade especially is really good.

Sure no problem and feel free to let me know if you're looking for more recs and you like to discuss them too!
Disapeared_Ghost Mar 22, 2023 6:20 PM
I hadn't played let it die, but i heard about Aural Vampire, working on a song from the game and its pretty catchy af imo.

Had you read red, blue or green yet? its part of the
and an expansion of the silver case story since like kingdom hearts, lot of the stories are somehow connected together, i can't remember where i read it somewhere, but Above ground is No More Heroes which is light hearted and cheesy, whereas killer7 was "underground" fitting given its dark and edgy nature.

Kuryami dance is my kind of isekai honestly, because i just love how pretty spooky and trippy it felt imo and its bit of a shame its slept on and i defo think it does deserve more love imo and it was apparently an early draft of shadows of the dammend way before EA forced Shinji Mikami and Suda to rework into something to appeal to westerners going against their original vision much to their dismay to this day.

Disapeared_Ghost Mar 21, 2023 4:43 PM
Btw, i noticed on your reading list you have kuyrami dance, and i learned about it through silver case and it was a pretty interesting story imo and i'd love seeing suda51 do more manga stories honestly.
Disapeared_Ghost Mar 21, 2023 1:06 PM
The original ds version, is defiently the best way to play the first game imo, since i intially started with the final remix but after i got the original ds version, it was just like day and night and anytime i play it on the ds, i just can't put the game down.

Yeah, the anime was pretty much.... mediocore to put it lightly, it was even edgier than the original game in some aspects like much of the comedy, such as the infamous pants off scene lol, and also no tin pin slammer or the reaper creeper moments to in the anime iirc. The animation was middling yeah thats for sure and i wish a studio like maybe trigger or shaft could have handled the animation for the anime and yeah i personally think it should have been 24 episodes one day a time instead of cramming much in 12 episodes was the best way to handle an adaptation of TWEWY. So yeah, the anime adaptation sadly falls for a curse many adaptations of games go through.

Facts, just about everything really for TWEWY, was so good from the music, story, characters and style it has is just pure perfection and thats the thing about the music you can't just have one favorite song, you have to have them all i am biased to the rock sounding tracks like someday, emptiness and tatakai and its gotten me into the works of takeharu ishimoto and crisis core and dissadia are some really killer stuff he's worked on and also outside of TWEWY too his music is pretty good.

The voice actor for snap from kellogs rice crispies also happens to be Sho's voice actor too apparently as well lol.

I also loved how neo twewy got me into mas kimura and also the bonez/rize since they worked on a couple of tracks in neo twewy. And i heard about hi-fi its said to be pretty good and jet set radio is also really fun too from what i heard as well.

(this was from the bonez in neo twewy)

As for other square enix games, well i have a few recs.

-Parasite Eve
-Xenogears
-FF7
-Chrono Trigger

BTW, i added Rindo into the character entries of neo twewy's manga character list a while back and as for other TWEWY related stuff around here there's a decently sized club that has quite a bit of TWEWY fans.
Disapeared_Ghost Mar 21, 2023 12:20 PM
Thanks for accepting my fr, and also what are your thoughts on the first twewy, if you played it yet btw?
_cryo Apr 19, 2022 1:44 PM
Apparently the battle system is actually slower than the PSX version because you can disable battle animations in that version. I'm not sure if you can do that with the PSP version, but if not, that explains it...again, sort of.
Oh yes, you can in the PSP version too! Uhmmm now if I were to be for real it doesn't change much ahhahah. Too bad for me. Even the text speed is set as max and yet it still feels slower than your average JRPG. It's not that I am impacient and I need fast paced battles, that really isn't the case. I've been playing EarthBound which is an averagely paced one and Final Fantasy VII and VI which are rather not fast either. Persona 2 feels slow no matter what I do to it.

Oh yeah, it's MUCH easier to understand than Lain.
Good, good, yeah. I just wish I was in the mood to watch anime, because if I was I would've finished it already. I don't watch anime like at all these days

Lain was pretty complicated for me too when I first saw it, it was only after I rewatched it and watched up on a few analysis videos that I really started to understand it and appreciate it a lot more than I did my first time watching it.
There still are some scenes of Lain that I think about...like the time she thought everybody in school was looking at her, that was very well done. I quite can't remember most things except that one, it really sticked with me how well it managed to portrait the insecurity of Lain without even saying anything, but if anything else is even close to the subtle symbolism like that one then I'm in for a treat if I ever decide to rewatch it. This autumn probably? Because I got my friend to watch it too and she said on Autumn, I'll probably be watching with her.

I'm trying to just figure out a time to fix my 'new rig' because it's been having a plethora of software issues which made it basically next to non-functional
Your new rig has the specs you listed on Steam right? If it's true then, God damn you got an I9 10th gen!! Also an RTX 3070 8GB??? Yeah...me and my I5 9th gen and RX 550 4gb are just gonna hide in the shame corner now. LMFAO

Very random but I saw a gif with King of Fighters in your Steam page. Do you perhaps like KOF too? It's one of my favorite fighting games like, ever.
_cryo Apr 17, 2022 10:48 AM
I mean, they're not all done yet. But once I finish the ones I wanna do, I'd certainly love to show em' off.
Ah, fairs. Take your time, dude and be sure to show me once you're done with them!

I'll shoot you my Discord or something and I'll show them off to ya. Heck, maybe if you just wanted to talk more and didn't wanna have to reply through here or whatever we could, I'm down either way.
I'm down too, dude. Do you use Discord frequently? I use it every now and then, all my internet friends are either here or somewhere else so I use Discord not as much as the rest. If you want to talk on Discord sometime, send me a friend request: ymd#5327

I kinda spoiled myself for both. But I'd LOVE to at least play through Mother 3 to say that I have, that was Itoi's peak emotional writing, in my opinion, anyways. That and everything else is also a MASSIVE improvement over Earthbound (SNES) minus the still limited inventory system.
Well Visual Boy's got your back. Also Vimm's Lair, you can get Mother 3 directly translated from there despite not receiving an official translation.
Yeah I agree the game was really emotional. I didn't think I was going to get emotional over an RPG lol, never happened to me. Claus is an amazing antagonist.

The Persona 2 Duology has been told by MANY to me that it has the best story in the ENTIRE Persona series along with even the Megami Tensei franchise, which already alone has me interested, especially the characters and their striking designs.
The story of Persona 2 was very good so far, yeah. I plan to continue by watching a YouTube playthrough. Do all Persona / Megami Tensei play like P2? I thought the battle system was rather slow paced, which is one of my biggest issues with RPGs in general...Pokemon being a prime example.

Sort of and sort of not, Haibane's MUCH more light-hearted in tone compared to Lain, but still discusses psychological themes of existence and the place in the world and things of that sort.
I'm going to be frank with you... Do you think Haibane Renmei is more easy to understand than Lain is? Back then when I watched Lain I was so lost.

I have $500 Lain plush to prove my devotion to how much I loved it, lol.
500$ plush? Holy shit, that's devotion right there. I wouldn't see myself getting something this expansive even with my favorite anime loool

Heh, maybe someday when I get the proper software, PC, and equipment for it, could always just save some money up from my job for that stuff.
What are your current specs?

Wouldn't hurt to try now, would it?
Yeah, it wouldn't. You should try and shoot your shot with something popular and on-going trend like Elden Ring, maybe you'll lure in some viewers.

Kinda had a long talk with Xranth about leaving an impact on the world before we die and stuff, so that kinda came to mind.
That's definitely something. I'm sure you'll be able to leave your mark in the world, maybe it's even early to think about it but it's good that you're cautious.

But yeah, talking to people on here is definitely something I should do more often.
Of course. Arguing or just plainly talking about series that you like, it's exciting to talk here on MAL.

MAL's kinda like VRChat in a way, if you sift through enough, you get the good amongst a lot of the toxic, the vile, and just plain cringy people in that community. I guess the same could be said for A LOT of fanbases in general, though
Oh God VRCHat....That shit is full of unfunny people, usually the fourteen year olds who think delibrately screaming in their microphones equals funny. I've never played it, but I've seen other people streaming it. Twenty minutes of it gives me a headache hahahahaha.
_cryo Apr 14, 2022 5:07 AM
Yyyyeahh...still only at Day 2. But I'm getting there!
Ohohoh, no worries. Take your time dude. I think NEO Twewy has a pretty suitable finale, although I prefer the first one over it. It's really cool to see that this franchise still isn't dead yet, because it's been years...2007, man! It's just crazy to see we received a SEQUEL after all this time.

yeah, I'm using the Epic Games PC port....wish the Steam was out, especially since there's code in the game referring to a Steam version so maybe we'll get to see that happen someday
Yeah I get you. It was an L move from Enix for releasing it only on Epic. They've lost a customer, because instead of buying it I pirated it. I don't use Epic Games and I quite hate it, the only reason why I have it is to play GTA Online with friends lol and that shit rarely happens as well. Got that for free with the pandemic deal too.
I do really hope they'll release NEO on Steam. With all sorts of crazy points shop items and badges! A big part of me buying games on Steam is those cards lol, they're awesome. Especially to have an achievement badge on your profile. I got Kiryu's Dragon on Yakuza 0 and been flexing with it on my friends ahahahahah

Played through the whole game with it, New Day and all
You probably have a better PC than I do. Idk if I can use Yuzu, but I've been dying to play Dread man. Istg I might buy a Switch just to play it. You don't know how much of a big Metroid fan I am, but it's a tough world out here with a decent PC and no Switch.

I used to make my own back when I had Photoshop.
Really?? I'm formerly a graphic designer too, although I am rusty as it gets. Used to make actually money from it too but then I got a burnout and haven't designed the same banners since. I use an inferior version of Photoshop, though, paint.net is where it's at. And while I'm able to pirate it, I don't think I'll be able to master it. Looks real complicated to use, props to you if you know how to use it.

I've actually made some neat little 2D-Tuber avatars with them with veadotube mini, I've done Rindo, Fret, and Sho, so far
Ohhh you did?? I wanna see!

Nagi...who I like a lot more than I thought I would when I first met her
Same feelings here. She was a bit weird at first but she really completes the cast. I wouldn't imagine Rindo and Fret without her- no, scratch that. I could imagine them without Nagi but it's just that she became a loveable character quick LOL. Which is TWEWY's charm, all of the characters feel so approachable..I couldn't hate any character, even the bad guys because they are just so CHARMING. I disliked Uzuki but I think that was probably because of how many times I retried to beat the boss fight from Week 3 Day 4 with her and Kariya.

holy crud do I overcomplicate things.
Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. And I understand you, sometimes when I'm writing a message I feel all of the ideas that i want to tell storming through my brain it truly creates a mess ahahah.

Smash Bros Brawl [...] was my first Smash.
You just made me extremely nostalgic. Used to play the fuck out of that game, and that's where I discovered Ness too. He also appears in a flash game SSF2 and it has a really cool Giygas stage. When I saw that stage and when I've heard that it's from EarthBound I got so intrigued, how such a childish character as Ness has a background that eerie. And when I got to play EarthBound, a year ago (it took a lot of trial and error for me, I dropped it a lot of times but I actually managed to finish it a year ago for reals) I got what I actually wanted. Which is rare for a game to meet my expectations.

along with Earthbound Beginnings which I got up to where you recruit Lloyd and then I dropped the game
Yeah, EarthBound Beginnings is...quite the experience. I somehow managed to finish it all and you haven't missed on much, only some backstory about EarthBound's Giygas.
Did you ever play Mother 3?

definitely still one of my favorite JRPGs...though that's not saying much as I haven't played much outside of Mario RPGs and Persona 4 Golden, and Shin Megami Tensei
Which Mario RPG did you play?
Persona 4 Golden I've yet to play it, hah..I've only tried to play Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, but the gameplay wasn't my thing so I dropped it...heard the story's real good tho so I'll probably force myself through it.

I'd only heard about the Haibane (along with Texhnolyze) after I'd finished watching Lain
Yoshitoshi Abe is quite the artist. I love the way he draws his characters, and he was responsable for all of these along with NHK ni Youkoso. His character designs are awesome, especially the eyes.

I put it off for MONTHS cause I was just too lazy to actually watch all of that, glad I did, though, absolutely LOVE both shows.
Lain is not really my cup of tea. Well, it wasn't my cup of tea I should say. It's been so long since I watched it but I do plan to rewatch it, hope I'll like it. Do you think it's similar to Haibane Renmei?

Wish I could put that into video form cause a lot of the After Review Rants could be sprinkled in as part of the review and why I personally liked the series
Well, you should. I see you have a YouTube channel and why not? Maybe you'll get to grow a fanbase. You seem the type to enjoy talking and writing essays, for me it feels like so much effort sometimes, haha.

Welcome to the NHK, since that show DEFINITELY sounds up my alley
I've watched the manga of NHK, it was pretty good. I know it's not the original, as it was originally a novel and the anime adaptation takes from the novel. Heard the manga changes a bit but nonetheless it was good. It had its highs and lows, but I am looking forward to hear what you think about it.

I'd absolutely recommend you watch it when you can, it sure as heck encapsulated me
Right now watching Kino no Tabi and Ippo. I probably won't get to finish Ippo soon (I'm also taking my time with it) and after I'm done with Kino I'll probably watch Haibane. Seems real good!

Guess I'm just real passionate about it, is all
That's the word. In no way you are cocky, after all you really like the show it's quite normal.

Never actually talked with someone like this on here before, pretty cool that there are people willing to comment out on other peeps' profiles
Ah, so you're still new to this, eh. MAL is a pretty good place if you don't take the top anime into consideration or the forum games or the toxic fanbases or...yeah LOL.

I did something similar with my Texhnoylze review, but nobody said anything.
I wouldn't have seen your profile either but MAL featured it, ahah. Guess it was fate

It's really fun talking with people who love a lot of the same stuff you do and are just as passionate
Yep, that's what I wanted to say. Despite all the flaws MAL has, it's entertaining to talk with other people who aren't toxic smelly elitist weebs as most of the people here.
_cryo Apr 14, 2022 1:44 AM
Still playing through NEO rn, actually, I'm in Week 3 as of writing this, but I've been absolutely LOVING IT
Ayyyyyyyy I'm glad you do, did you see the big reveal yet? Or are you just at the beginning of week 3?

I played TWEWY Final Remix on Yuzu earlier in January-February or so and enjoyed that game
Yuzu the Switch emulator? It really works? I've had several issues with it before and truth be told I think it was just the ROMs that were bad..?

Hard enough actually getting a good PFP of Rindo cause uhhhh...surprise, surprise, not enough people care for TWEWY to make them. :(
Well the in-game sprites look good enough for profile picture material, hahaha. But I think you might be able to find some pretty good fanart of Neku tho
I want to set my profile picture as Fret sometime! I really loved him as a character. If we're not counting Minamimoto, he was probably my fav in Neo

I love the way you show your profile off, btw.
Hahahaha, thank you man! Did you manage to understand my hard-boiled rating system?

Your favorite games are also GOD-TIER.
NO WAYYYY YOU LIKE EARTHBOUND? I SWEAR TO GOD I NEVER FIND PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY LIKE IT! Holy shiiit, I'm finally not alone LOL

Weird but I actually came across your profile from your Haibane Renmei review. MAL featured it in recent reviews and you gave it a 10/10. A friend of mine also really likes it so I think I should start watching it soon
