As someone who has caught up to chapter 17, I feel that's enough to write a review. The story is pretty engaging, showing the lengths of what a grieving mother would go through to get revenge. Revenge stories like these will always keep people on the fence due to the philosophy of "eye for an eye" vs "revenge isn't fulfilling in the long run." I'm personally a sucker for well written psychological thriller stories, whether it has to do with revenge or not. This story ticks the box for me in terms of enjoyment.
Characters: I find the main character, Maria, to be an interesting

character. I find myself engaged in how she goes about her revenge, and the puzzles she puts her victims through definitely reminds me of Saw. If you're into psychological thrillers like that, then this is definitely worth a read. The villains / bullies are actually given some type of reason (although it's not groundbreaking) as to why they are the way that they are, and are condemned in ways that fit their insecurities. Reading irony like that is *chefs kiss*
Art: The art is gorgeous, but is gruesome when it needs to be. I can't ask for anything more with this type of story.
Recommendation: If you find the Saw movies engaging, or just enjoy a thriller story then it's highly worth checking out. I am frequently going to check for updates on this series, and would love an official localization in the future.

You really don't have much to lose with reading this, it's only 9 pages. It's a very short one-shot about a man and woman who drink together. I can see the potential in this being a series, but it would probably be pretty mediocre unless the drama and characters are written well. If you got a few minutes to kill you can check it out, it wouldn't be a waste of time. I actually love the art work and the character expressions. I can tell a lot of time went into them! If I could describe Akudama Drive in three words it would be: ambitious but forgettable.
Now, now now, before you give me thumbs down, let me specify that it isn’t a bad show, but it’s not something I would really recommend to people. Unless someone is looking for fighting and action then maybe I could, but there’s honestly better stuff out there. I can tell there was some kind of passion involved, however, through clunky writing and dull characters it doesn’t quite hold up.
Story: The main story is about an ordinary girl (that’s really her name) and she gets mixed in with S class

criminals who then go a mission for a robot cat. It actually sounds like a fun and goofy time, and at moments, there are insane off the wall scenes in battle. Like, to the point where I’m actually laughing at how absurd it can get! Once we get into the second half of the series it gets more serious.
There are some themes that show up later on in the story that are relatable to real life situations you would find, however, it doesn’t really dig too deep into that. The theme of, “who is really bad?” is an interesting one and I like to believe that this show did pull that off to some degree.
Characters: The fight scenes can be somewhat engaging and interesting, but do you know what’s not somewhat engaging and interesting? The characters! I’m sorry, and I think I’m in the minority with this, but I couldn’t care for any of these characters. I’m not saying you can’t root for bad guys, there are many animes and live action movies where I find the bad guys fascinating, however, none of them struck a chord with me.
Most of them are very one note and have very little to no character development: tough and dim-witted strong man, sadistic seductive doctor, nice plain girl, annoying low-rank hoodlum, quiet and detached guy, cute kids and bloodlust dude. Oh yeah, there’s a hacker that I completely forgot about! I had to add this after my third time re-reading this review! Anyway, that’s pretty much the sum and it never goes beyond that. None of them were interesting and I just like I was just coasting through the ride rather than root for their cause.
I blame the writing on this, and one thing that really takes me out of the characters/fight scenes is the fact that there are so many episodes where they have the characters nonstop talking and interrupting each other. It gets to the point where I’m thinking, “shut the hell up and get on with the story and fights!”
Art and Animation: The thing that drew me in was the character designs. Komatsuzaki Rui, best known for his Danganronpa character designs, does an excellent job of creating some pretty nice and unique looking characters. Ordinary/Swindler looks like she straight up came out of Danganronpa. There are some hit and miss designs, but overall most of them are eye pleasing! (Not in a sexual way lol).
There are some interesting editing choices when it comes to showing off characters and new scenes. It’s hard to describe, but I find it unique to see in anime and honestly reminded me of a video game (actually, Danganronpa if I had to compare). The small segments of Bunny and Shark to give some world building, only then to pan away from the TV to whatever area the characters are in is a really nice creative touch that I always appreciate in visual media!
Overall: Watch it if you want to kill some time or look at something unique and stylish in terms of art and design. If the idea of bad guys fighting for money in a sci-fi dystopian world sounds interesting then you might find some enjoyment and meaning behind it, maybe I’m too harsh and critical. I don’t find the story or themes it was presenting to be too deep, and that might be due to presentation and writing. If you want themes about morality then you’re better off playing Danganronpa, which is written better and has much better characters. I also know that not everyone has time to sink 20-50 hours into three video games haha.

It's criminal how underrated this series is. I can't believe how much I fell in love with this show and characters! The characters and story will have a special place in my memories for a very long time and it's a show that I can easily re-watch, even with knowing who dies.
Story: The death battles really are engaging and something that Basilisk deserves props for is that it's not afraid to kill off it's characters. There were many characters that I thought would make it to the end, or at least, not die so early. Having those stakes makes the fight scenes, which are

Art and Animation: Now the first thing I took notice to were the character designs and visuals. I can tell the artists in charge of this show are talented and put a lot of craft into it because the quality was crisp, clean and beautiful consistently throughout 24 episodes. Not only is it incredibly gorgeous from 2005, but I would say it holds up even better than shows made recently in the 2020s.
Characters: The character designs are pretty unique for the most part, however, there are a few characters that look too similar (Akeginu and Kagero for example). I've seen others complain about the less humanoid looking ones, however, I think that adds to it's charm and diversity in designs.
The characters themselves I found to be enjoyable, likeable and loveable. Oboro and Gennosuke are two likeable protagonists and lovers, however, with how timid Oboro is I can see her putting a lot of people off. The side characters are engaging and all have their own unique traits in terms of personality and/or abilities that make them great to seen on the screen. I can guarantee that if you watch this you will love at least one of them, if not a handful.
Sound: The Japanese voice acting was pretty good, and I don't remember there being a character that was bad. Nana Mizuki absolutely takes the cake for the best acting. She is gentle when she needs to be and will pull on your heartstrings whether it's through sadness or anger.I don't think I've never heard a voice actor/actress give me chills like she did in certain scenes.
The music is good and the sounds fit the scenes they're intended for, however, I wouldn't say any of them stuck besides the "Hime Murasaki" song that plays at the end of certain episodes.
Overall: Please give Basilisk a view if you're still not sure. I wouldn't say it's the most polished in terms of story, the last few episodes didn't hold up to the rest of it, which it what brought my score down a little bit. The ending seems to divide the community, however, I do believe it fits the story.

How far will you go to win millions of dollars?
The idea of competing on reality tv for love or fistfuls of cash is nothing new. Even though society typically mocks and criticizes the ethics behind such things, the trend still continues to grow with the Bachelor/Bachelorette being the most popular. Now make it even raunchier with some darker mysterious tones to it. That’s what this series is.
Before you read the rest of the review let me add: I have not finished this series. As of writing this I finished chapter 21.
Story: Okay, I was honestly intrigued that the tags are "ecchi" and "psychological."

Those series do exist, but they seem few and far between. Now don't get me wrong, this is trashy fun, but I would say it's a tad above the rest of the trashy smut out there. There are actual attempts at twists and turns and a whole, "who done it?" stick that I'm actually interested in seeing. It's still a competition to win the money, but it's also juggling a mind game mystery aspect at the same time. It's not thought provoking but it's a series you can read to coast through and enjoy the mindless fun and smut.
Art: Speaking of smut, the artist behind this series is also a hentai artist. So it should come to no surprise that there are many, and I mean many, saucy scenes between the rich dude as well as the other female contestants. It's actually borderline hentai. The art is crisp and clean and there is obvious attention to details when it comes to the girls expressions. Although, if you told me the one character was supposed to be athletic I wouldn't believe it, her body isn't much different than the other girls. Not a huge nitpick, but just something to note haha.
Characters: I like Yuuna, she's the type of girl whose got a strong head on her shoulders, and although she starts off as cold, she really does care for the others around her. The supporting girls are okay as well. They might not all be likeable, but I do get interested when they show up on the page like, "what are they going to say or do this time?" Except the guy they are competing for, he is a scumbag! (but that's the point too).
Long story short: If you want mindless trashy fun then I wouldn’t turn this series down. It’s doesn’t exactly tell a moral or big theme but I never once feel bored when reading it.
