Chikyuu no Ko (Manga) add
Preliminary (13/27 chp)
This manga had an explosive first chapter that, while fast paced, delivered a fantastic story and topped it off with a brilliant ending. Only, it didn't actually end, because despite what I'd thought, it was not a one-shot.

Each and every following chapter felt like it was dogging on the steps of the very first or trying to go bigger and better and out-do it. But it continued to fall flat time and time again. At this point I'm not even sure why this continued for as long as it did because, to be blunt, the story sucked.

The only way I'd recommend this is to read ...

A refreshing take on the trope of human/god (could also be taken as interspecies) relationship! This trope is a well loved and, for good reason.

'The Dragon's Betrothed' tells the story of Rin trying his best to woo Chiharu and make him fall in love (which in and of itself is hilarious and endearing), but there is this unspoken (blink and you'll miss it) undercurrent of urgency to the story that could jeopardise not only their blossoming relationship, but also put Rin's very existence at risk.

Stunning artwork, but the story was severely lacking.

Interspecies love and forbidden love are two tropes that are prevalent in this story, and yet, the plot itself fell flat and didn't really go anywhere.

The story revolves around our two main characters: Komazu (a sparrow) and Shiratō (a white snake), who find themselves drawn to one another after a fateful meeting (Shiratō saving Komazu from a wild boar). It's a strong start, and given the two tropes used in this story, you'd expect the story to go in a direction where they have to overcome their differences in the pursuit of their love. But, that doesn't ...

Black Torch (Manga) add
Mixed Feelings
Started off with a promising story, but fast became a let-down.

I'm not sure whether Black Torch was originally planned to be a short series, or if it got cancelled and then the author was left trying to pull together something into a somewhat reasonable ending. Either way, the flow of the story was very inconsistent and the characters were so empty and barely used in the progression that they may as well have not even been there. There were many instances of moments where a scene would build up, only to fall flat without a climax or any sort of payoff.

The art style ...
