TL;DR This show would have been great if they'd kept it to their youtube channel.
Trying to appeal to a huge base right out the gate was the biggest mistake - most foreign anime watchers are shonen watchers (see the crunchyroll demon slayer awards) with a smattering of people who enjoy other more common genres. Kaigai vtuber fans are often cringe and toxic....don't read chat in English usually because it tends to make my blood pressure go up. The negative reviews make sense because the people leaving them are 1) anime watchers who aren't into vtubers or 2) toxic kaigai niki's who hate on whatever

I don't like long reviews so I will leave a relatively short one.
This movie is amazing and a spectacle in the sound and animation departments and just ok in every other way. I like sakuga as much as the next person and this film is full of it. The sound design and action scenes are incredible. Unfortunately this is where anything remarkable about the movie ends. The characters are one dimensional, the story uninspired and the backgrounds while well drawn are very samey. The CG monsters should have been left out of the movie as they jerk you out of the movie with whiplash from how ...

This is a very poor quality retelling of the first arc of the main series as experienced by some of the side characters. It is incomplete and is most likely confusing to any who have not seen the original. The dialogue is inane and there are a lot of extra cringy incestual moments thrown in for some kind of measure.....
The animation varies greatly from frame to frame and while the character designs are mostly the same from the original the only change that happens is some extreme degradation of quality in motion. Janky running animations and odd stretch effects during pivots of characters are just ...

It is a competently put together recap of the series. The clips chosen tell the story pretty well for such an abridged retelling. The sound and art direction were likewise up to par for what I would expect from the team that put this show together.
The execution does however beg the question of why? I understand recap episodes when they are trying to milk production time mid season or when there has been a gap in episode release dates, but a recap the week after finishing what seems like a well tied off story does perplex me a bit. I can sum this one up by saying at least they got the title correct in English. The 8th Son........Are You Kidding Me? I actually watched it all?
It is thanks to the abundance of time I have found myself with due to "Rona" that I watched this past episode 1. I do not think there was any aspect to this production can be called better than "poorly executed" except maybe the sound design, which was just ok. The soundtrack was ok for what it is though some of the choices on when music came in left me a little baffled. The story is a generic fantasy ... |
