After reading through the current chapters I found the series rather enjoyable. Now I’m not a horror person so I honestly cannot say if the series is good if you are looking to be scared. Personally I’ve never found how something I am reading can horrify me.

The main character’s interaction as he tries to solve the mystery of the day with the help of a certain being is actually very interesting. Though not necessarily suspenseful I do find myself wondering “what will happen next” or “what does this mean”, but only to an extent. Other characters sadly aren’t that felshed out, save a few ...

Golem Hearts (Manga) add

I recently read the series and caught up to it. Its been on my to do list for a while, because the title and cover seemed interesting. Plus a new shounen is always a potentially great day. After reading it I had wished I did so sooner.

The story and premise is great thus far. Golems aren’t exactly a new thing (what is?), but I’ve never seen a series that focuses so well on them. The treatment of Golems as tool and prospect of a living golem is also extremely interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes in a world where everything ... from the arts to warfare is shaped by golems.

The characters are somewhat cliche as with any shounen, but endearing enough that you still love them. As always the main character is happy go lucky, hard working, kind, etc. And as always it just works. I also personally love how this one isn’t relaly ambitious. Everything he does is for the sake of others and he truly only wants to help. The same goes for his dream. He doesn’t want to be the very best like some 10 year old with his head stuck in the clouds. He truly wants to help and even his dream reflects that (I’d say more, but knowing me it’d lead into a spoiler. It becomes pretty apparent early on what I’m referring to).

Overall this manga has been very good so far. The arts nothing amazing, but nothing cringe worthy either.

The only problem I have with this series is the rival, which for me is often either a hit or a miss and this one was sadly a miss. Though simple on paper the concept of a rival is pretty difficult to pull off successfully. They aren’t the antagonist or necessarily an ally. It’d be closer to say they are a foil to the main character, but wven thats not necessarily true. Suffice to say the rival and main character have a complicated relationship and I’m disappointed to say that here the rival feels to generic and bland. I get the feeling the author added a rival because every shounen manga just needs one and then he (she? I am now regretting not researching the author first) focused too much on having the rival be a contrast to thhe main character. Yes I get that everyone is worse than you. Yes you’re a child prodigy full of talent because of you not your super powerful relative. Yes, you’re a special little snowflake above all. As of right now the rival feels to me like an annoying emo teen. Also why do all of these “genius” child prodigies seem to know nothing about genetics? Its true that learned traits gained from hard work can’t be passed down, but if its a natural talent then it could be a family trait. Luckily the series is still fairly new. Its entirely possible that the author will improve the rival as the series continues, but as of right now he is the worst part of it for me.

I would like to add that I gave the series a 7 simply because its new. It has a lot of promise and potential and honestly if it continues down this path with improvements I’ll happily give the series a 10.

I normally do not write reviews but i have enjoyed this manga so much i feel that i must. Before i say anything it is not a cliche. At least not anymore than anyother shounen out there.

This is a series about a young man named Asta who dreams about becoming wizard king and has since he was a young boy. He grew up in basically the country. Known to be poor, broke, and produce people with low magic ability. Peasants born there are already looked down upon and most people believe that only nobles can be magic king.

Asta was born as the lowest ... of the low. Even his fellow peasants look down upon him because he has absolutely zero magic as in none at all. He can not perform the simpliest of magical tasks. However he never gave up on his dream and worked hard from the very beginning thus training his body physically a lot. He was granted with an anti magic power that negates magic.

Asta's rival is a magical genius. They grew up in the same town and in the same orphanage as brothers. They are close friends and see each others as equals both wanting to surpass the other. Neither can stand the other being looked down upon or bad mouthed about and they when they fight together, they fight TOGETHER. Both of them have saved the other one or more times

I in no was see this as a cliche unless you just plain hate the shounen genre period. While there are aspects similar to other series, you need to realize there is no longer an entirely 100% original idea when it comes to literature anymore. Even romeo and juliet wasnt an original idea. There are many things that set this series apart from others. First of all the mc wasnt born with a natural power nor did he obtain one by luck or early in his youth. He isnt a saiyan, he doesnt have the nine tailed fox, he never ate a devil fruit and etc. Asta has worked hard from a very young age despite not have ANY power. Eventually he was rewarded for his hard work. It wasnt just luck. Had he given up at any moment he would never have gotten the power. Something else that sets this series apart is the rival. I have read many series with a rival who wants to surpass the mc or vice versa. However i have never read a shounen manga where the rivals are on such great terms who think so highly of one another. Yuno is a normaly cool and stoic character but you never see him meet asta without managing to smile and you can tell that he always enjoys their meetings. Also if we want to talk about something different, the mc even has a little harem. Plus instead of being oblivious to love he has a girl he likes and has liked since the beginning (though tbh he is oblivious of the other girls feelings and his crush is kinda a joke). Not to mention you a actually know why he is happy go lucky. Instead of most mc's who are just born that way he had to be postive otherwise he would have long given up and lost to all the insults he gets

Cliches (pretty much all shounen cliches):
-mc with a big dream
-genius rival
-really positive mc/mc acts like a kid
-people mock mc dream

Unique elements:
-mc has a little harem
-mc and rival act like bffs and brothers
-mc has no natural ability nor did he get one by lock
-mc has a little harem
-mc has a crush

Tbh its kinda like if a certain magic index decided to say "ya know what" and became a shounen.

*SPOILER WARNING*

This is an amazing Manga and I loved it so when I couldn't wait I decided to start reading the LN. The LN stated much better details and it wasn't made for young 13 year olds so it made more sense. Like when that scorpion interpreted Grandmaster and Erlong in the LN they were about to have sex which explained why Erlong was so pissed but in the Manga I was lost because all they did was sit next to each other. It made no sense that Erlong would be pissed cuz that was going nowhere anyway
