I've been an anime fan since I 1st started watching anime on Toonami back in 1998. DBZ & Sailor Moon were my gateway series. I have been lucky enough to travel to Japan for a month to act as a student ambassador. I am currently a senior @ UAB studying for a major in Political Sciences & a minor in International Studies. My favorite anime are Neon Genesis Evangelion & Fushigi Yuugi. I am also a big advocate of helping out the anime companies, ever since ADV & Pioneer closed down. I try to buy the physical discs if possible of all the anime I want to watch.

Oh, my bad! Sorry for the late response, man! I haven't been checking my profile page for ages, since I rarely get comments. I usually just go directly to my anime list page.
Glad you liked Gurren Lagann...I've actually been considering doing a re-watch of that with some friends, after we marathon Neon Genesis Evangelion and the rebuild movies sometime in the next couple of weekends. Nia is pretty awesome, but I have to say my favorite characters are Kamina and Simon, tied for first. The bro-ness in the first half of the show was amazing, and seeing the legacy Kamina left through Simon was nothing short of spectacular.
I haven't gotten around to watching RahXephon yet, but now that you mention it again, I think I'm going to forget about waiting for my friends to watch it. My one friend that was re-watching it with me has kind of...gotten out...of the anime fandom, so to speak, so he's been a lot more interested in persuading me to watch stuff like Dr. Who and a couple of other American or British live-action shows like Lie to Me and Sherlock. All of which are good, but I still like my anime. :P I think I'll start watching it again tonight, since I'm not doing anything else this evening. I really want to find out what's up with that blue blood...

LOL, I got the Anime Legends Complete Collection, which includes the movie. So even though it may be a piece of trash (you're not the first person I've heard say that), at the very least I can indulge my completionist tendencies and watch it for the lulz.
Gurren Lagann is a treat. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Also, make sure you watch it on DVD and not on Hulu, since Hulu replaced the original episode 6 (which is hysterically funny and contains some of the best funny lines in the show) with an ultra-stupid recap episode that adds nothing to the show.
But yeah, let me know what you think of it, and I'll let you know what I think of Rahxephon once I finally get the time to finish it. :D

Hey man, sorry for the late response. I wasn't paying any attention to my main profile page for a very long time since no one had been commenting on it, but I just realized you did over a month ago... :P
Anyway, glad you had the opportunity to check out Madoka, it's become one of my personal favorites for a number of reasons. That's not to say it doesn't have any flaws, because it does, but I think the characters and especially the powerful conclusion overcome those flaws, at least in my book.
As for Rahxephon, I've actually been watching that one as well. Unfortunately, I've been watching through it with a good friend of mine who still goes to university as a grad student, and with his class schedule/homework/part-time job, plus my full-time job, our schedules don't intersect nearly often enough to make quick progress through it. That, and we've also been watching Dr. Who a bunch of late, which has eaten into our anime time. That being said though, I do need to pick it up again...the music is just grand, and the visuals are stunning for how old the show is. But that's studio Bones for ya, they always do great work on their stuff.
Anyway, good to hear from you again (even if it is so late after your last comment). :P

Yeah, If you like watching Final Fantasy Advent Children complete then I recommend checking out Tekken Blood Vengeance movie, the movie's great and the fight scenes are similar to Advent Children's own except they use their fist to fight.

I just listened to the American theme on YouTube - so far I've only known the US version of the Digimon Adventure opening, but they are pretty similar insofar they're not only completely different from the original version but also significantly less pop-ish and less... lyric-based. Both of the German DBZ openings are basically translated covers of the original Japanese ones, which I'm glad for. But I guess in the end you're always fond of whatever version you grew up on, because that's the one that brings back the memories :)

I don't think you guys missed anything, Ga-Rei Zero is a pretty straight forward show. The thing that made it work well for me, and I assume a lot of people who rate it highly, is that it is an unsparing emotional punch to the gut. And it isn't as if the emotion is forced, there is genuine pathos in seeing the main characters form a friendship, and watching it crumble. The thing is though, the emotional punches are the selling point of the show, not necessarily how the show gets there. It is not a subtle show, and the Bane Stone was an obvious 'Deus Ex Machina' plot devise. Still, I found it to be very satisfying.
