No worries. People just hate rei without knowing the past and back story.
The manga sadly ended on chapter 30 at a cliffhanger and since the author died it won't be continued. Still you can give it a go. :)

Dont know how to reply to a comment on the post so thought to just reply to you this way
Rei fans arent upset over the the ova scenes, because one that was just to tease the saeko fans, two it was not canon.
Also if you read the manga Takashi is more into Rei now, also close to saeko admiring her and saeko also teases takashi and rein on their romance.
As a Rei fan just letting you know :)
