I started watching anime when I was 26...just 6 years ago, sad to say.
While, I did see a few anime-flics and read the first American issue of Urusei Yatsura when I was 16 or 17, I didn't know anything about anime or manga at that time.

Series & Hentai - I rate series and hentai by pretty much the same catagories that are used in MAL. Plot, Story, Art, Sound, Character, Enjoyment Level, and Overall Average Grade.
Movies & OVAs - I rate these completely different. I rate Movies & OVAs by the levels of Intellectual and Emotional Stimulation.
Nothing gets in my favorites lists without being higher than a ' 6 ' in its Overall Average Grade.
